I was down on Shepard for stopping on a router and missing a catch but he finished-up nice with 7 catches for 100 yds and a TD. Betcha Beckham will feel like his missing something. I'd take Jones over Mayfield as of today.

Jones played great but let's be real here, Giants should be 0-3.
And we should have lost to the Bills in Super Bowl XXV.

We know the defense stinks, and we are most likely not a playoff team today.

But if you are a Giant fan you are elated right now, because of the win, but more importantly because of Jones. He was fantastic.

Awful comparison

Sure but Giants wouldn't even of have had a close game if Barkley played. The offense opened right the hell up. With Eli, the Giants would have been done by the half. Its only one game, but Jones is real deal. He keeps playing like that he could be ROTY. The Bucs ate the OL for a snack today and Jones didn't wilt.

I was really impressed with Jones today. And I'm one who bashed the pick at #6 as being way too high. Without the benefit of Barkley still no #1 or 2 receiver in Tate, under constant duress the kid hung in there and just kept completing passes and rushing when available. The defense then seemed to feed off that as Jones kept them in the game. Get the kid an Oline and better D(they're still atrocious) and you have something.

Jones will be the best player from that draft

Why did Giants fans boo him?
I did. I thought the stats didn't justify the pick. Nor did I think he was in high demand. That a trade down you could have still got him. But in the preseason he opened my eyes and said he looks good but has a long way to go. Win or lose today my eyes got even wider. He hasn't justified that pick yet, but all signs are pointing to this being a very, very good pickup and the future of the franchise.

I guess the Giants didn't forget that winning is the most important factor, thanks Mayfield for the reminder.

Jones looked terrific today. Kind of "the good Eli" with the ability to pull it down and run occasionally. Very encouraging.

Do I prefer him to Baker Mayfield? No. But perhaps that will change.

If he turns into a franchise quarterback and gets you to a Super Bowl then the pick is justified.

Giants were losing games last year because Giants kept losing despite scoring 30+ points. People didn't hate Jones - they didn't know him. They wanted a defender. Me? I saw Jones play at West Point and I deffo didn't see what they Giants saw. He wasn't bad (he ran well and for a TD) but he wasn't the passer I saw today. Defense will do better when they aren't on the field all the time with their backs against the wall - which is what was happening. Carl Banks thought Giants had good people but that the scheme/coaching wasn't putting then together right.

Well that's not going to happen in the near future. This team is a mess. The defense sucks, the WRs aren't great, the Oline is still a sieve. It's a losing ball club. Hopefully next year they free up a lot of that $33.6 mil. dead cap space and Eli's $23.2 mil. seat warmer contract and start fixing some of these areas.

The "good Eli" took three years to show up. Eli was muffing screen passes all the time his first year. He would throw (with no pressure) to a guy standing by himself in the flat and miss him by 3 yards. I don't know if people realize how accurate this kid was today. He's got Solder on his heels with Bucs in his face, and he's zipping balls into tight sideline coverage where only the Giant can get it. At least I no longer worry he will be Dave "Duke" Brown 2.0

Gettleman might end-up looking like a genius with a cheap Barkley and Jones in same backfield

Gmen have lost so many games the last few years on fluke plays and FG bombs about time they got one their way!

No GMEN fan thinks this year is a super bowl. This season is about the start of the march back to being a top team. DJ took one step today towards that.

Just for a few second the TV showed Eli's face when Jones score the winning TD. You could see right away Eli knew saw starting kid was a good move. He wasn't happy or sad. Just "wow yeah that's that"

I think it's pretty clear he is more accurate then Eli. Throws a cleaner ball too.

Now he may turn out be a significantly better player then Eli, but winning more super bowls then Eli will be tough.

Winning Super Bowl's is the goal obviously, but I don't think he needs to do that to justify the pick. Just being a really good QB justifies the pick.

Yes yes - Eli had "serendipity." He was a good guy doing charity stuff like crazy, never complaining, no scandals etc - universe throws things to people like that now and then. Who needs stats when destiny sweeps the porch for you? If Jones is the same type (as people say) then who knows?

My wife said, Eli's probably on the phone with his agent after this game saying, "Yea you know about that no trade clause we've got. Can we waive that and start looking around?".

Worst thing for him now would be to have to go in for an injured Jones and suck all over the place

Remember though that Duke led the nation in drops last year.

I went back and watched a couple Play by Play of Jones from Duke and he was throwing perfect balls 30 yards down the field and his receivers just could not catch them.

I posted a thread about it on here soon after the draft. Thought the stats were misleading then, and the preseason and now today back that up.

I took the over at Fanduel for Giants win this season at 6. I'd do it again today.

Will Barkley's high ankle sprain mean Hilliman gets signed off the practice squad? Here's hoping.

Eli also got hot, twice, in the playoffs. So it's not like he merely got lucky. I think there was a big moment aspect to his game But was he a great regular season QB? Not at all, good for a stretch, but never a great regular season QB And that is the interesting aspect of his career.

Now I love that Jones seems to share a lot of personality traits as Eli. And we can only hope that he can have those type of playoff runs as Eli had, but being as good a regular season QB as Eli? Not the highest of bars.

Although Eli's durability is another factor to consider.

All I know is Giants have a legit franchise QB. No Dave Browns, no Danny Kanells, no Joe Pisarciks, No Kent Grahams or Jesse Palmers. Eli was never injured and always "on" when it counted. So were others when Eli was at his best. The Packers game before first Super Bowl was one of best WR performances I ever saw . Plaxico Burress mugged the Al Harris (a great DB) for catch after catch (and in GB). Eli won the SB thanks to DL. They got to SB thanks to Plaxico Burress

Cold reality: Burress couldn't be stopped

But let's not down play Eli's performances in those runs. 15-2 TD-int ratio. Averaged over 300 yds/game in 2011.

We did just see the Rams lose a super bowl despite a dominating DL performance

Edit:per Jones, I'm just as excited as you about it.

They looked like a different team with Jones under center. Well, a different team offensively. TB defense is still adjusting to new scheme (although they are talented) so it'll be interesting to see what next week brings.

Played sloppy today but got the win against a division rival. The injury to Connelly is a downer. Kid seemed like a player.

Washington is brutal, especially offensively.

Thought Jones looked good. A couple picks, and the ball security issue continues to be a back story, but overall I thought he played well.

Interesting side note is the Jones-Haskins comparison. The Jones pick was lambasted at the time of the draft. If we went Haskins there, I think people would have been much more accepting. Fast fwd a couple months and Jones looks like the far superior prospect. My guess is Washington will be picking a QB again this upcoming draft.
