Hoping we are their trap game. They play iowa st after us and they could be looking ahead to playing an in state rival.

They could also think of both us and iowa st as cupcakes after iowa st played crappy.

Could be to our benefit.

We can’t throw 3 INTs and be in the game. If our D shows up and we don’t make turnovers and penalties, it could be reasonable to believe that we hang around.

BC also looked good today, winning 35-28 at home vs VT.

I never understood why RU was not interested in Anthony Brown from Matawan as a QB recruit. Saw him play in hs and he looked like the real deal.

We will know a lot more about our team after Iowa and BC. Keep ur fingers crossed.

Flood was too busy chasing after Hawkins and Guarantano. By the time Flood offered to Brown it was too late.

I saw him play a few times, too and liked him better than Micah.

Now I'm not saying we're going to beat BC as they took care of business. But I have a feeling VT is going to continue their rapid decent into irrelevance. They lost a lot of transfers the last few years, Bud Foster is retiring after this year. That did not look like a typical Bud Foster coached defense. Fuentes has had them in steady decline since he took over. There's something going on in Blacksburg and it isn't good.

Hawkeyes are a different team coming out for the second half on both O and D. Finally decided to wake up. It’s gonna be a challenge.

BC looks good. That game is now very concerning right after Iowa.

Their D is solid. If we can keep it respectful that would be good.

Maybe. But I think the Redhawks WR corps is more athletic as a whole than ours and they’re getting mauled by the Hawkeyes D.

And RU's RBs are much more athletic than Miam's. And the Miami D line is not stacked with 300 pounders like the B1G East. Iowa's OL has not been as dominant as I expected.

Iowa had to kind of mix and match on O-line after Alaric Jackson went down to injury. Initially didn’t look bad as he walked off on his own power, but then went to the locker room on crutches. So there’s some concern. He’ll almost certainly be out next week.

Our DL is not stacked with 300 Pounders. Expect the Iowa OL to push at ease on Saturday. The LBs will need to play a heck of a game to keep it close.

It will be a huge challenge for us. They will exploit our weaknesses on both lines .
Who knows what’s going to happen. I think the Oline performed admirably against UMass, but I’m worried about our slow, weak, inexperienced and undersized Dline. Did you see that beast Wirfs on Iowa’s OL cleaning 450lbs? I think he did 4 reps. They literally threw aside Miami’s Dline like little ragdolls.

Interesting note: after the injury to Alaric Jackson, all 5 O-lineman this week are from Iowa, and wrestled in HS.

All giant corn feed monsters that could bench press pickup trucks...

Or at least that how they look like...

Rutgers is going to put up some points against Iowa.

But seriously, looking forward to watching the new and improved Scarlet Knots....I mean Knights. Weak, I know.

LT Alaric Jackson will indeed miss this game. The Hawkeyes will move a few players around on the OL, no big worries. Junior Tristen Wirfs 6ft7 320 will move to LT and make his 23rd consecutive start there. Iowa moved the ball fairly well on the ground vs. MOO. As usual, Ferentz will look to establish the power run game early. Nate Stanley had another productive 3TD game to open the season - he will make teams pay when they start to crowd the box.

This main attraction for this game in my opinion is the Rutgers offense vs. Iowa's defense and specifically, Rutger's pass O vs. Iowa's secondary. DC Phil Parker is fielding another stout defense, especially DL, but the Hawkeyes are breaking in a new FS - a redshirt freshman - to replace last year's B10 DB of the Year (Amani Hooker) who left early for the NFL. It will be interesting to see if Ash targets FS Kaevon Merriweather who is right now the most obvious weak link in Iowa's pass D.

Side attraction: Rutgers RB Pacheco vs. Iowa's run defense. Should be a real test for both teams.

Side note: Newark, New Jersey native Ihmir Smith-Marsette starts at WR and he is one of Stanley's main targets. He is also a dangerous KR - second in the nation last year and reigning B10 Returner of the Year. Not sure but I think he originally committed to RU.

You never know with early conference games. Iowa should be able to score plenty of points. Can Rutgers keep pace?

I can't see us winning this game, but no one expects Rutgers to win. However, I will like to at least see Rutgers make a game out of it Like the last time both schools played each other. I would be happy with that.

But, hard to have a Big Ten opener be called a "trap" game?
Earliest Big Ten conference opener in the history of Iowa Football, if you look at it by date on a calendar.
First time Rutgers has come to Kinnick in the 130 years of Iowa Football. Syracuse and Penn State were popular Eastern opponents back in the day!

Legendary coach Hayden Fry opened his career at Iowa 40 years ago, with a Big Ten opener against Indiana.
Only game in history of series was at Rutgers. Iowa won 14-7.
Week 2, hard to see a conference opener, as a trap game. Iowa State is idle this week, along with TCU. Both play B1Gs in Week 3.
