I did notice Audi is also no longer listed as one of our major sponsors at the bottom of the front page on scarletknights.com. Hope it is only temporary. I wonder if Provident Bank is the bank that is buying the naming rights for The RAC that is supposed to occur this Fall?
If I were Audi, I'd be hard pressed to want to connect a premium brand like Audi with where we are now. Sad, but true.

We could use maybe some "loyalty" angle brands.. like Ford.. too bad a Rutgers alum is long gone as CEO. When times get tough only the tough show up.. and there are a lot of brands that have diehard customers..

There were P-5 schools included in my link
Louisville might be selling naming rights now that they took Papa John’s name off and getting a better deal
Also I’m sure there will be more P-5 schools getting different naming rights deals for more money in the next couple of years.
But for now Texas Tech, Kentucky, Maryland ,California and Minnesota are listed in the link I posted in which Rutgers naming rights can be compared to.
so you are comparing us to deals signed in 2000, 2005 and 2006? Which also lasted through the Financial crisis and recession?

KENTUCKY is the only comparable deal, signed 2 years ago, for 30% more.

You guys are impossible to talk to, because regardless of the number of facts thrown your way, you still defend the indefensible. So like i said originally, maybe they got the best deal they could considering the circumstances...but they should still be held accountable for creating the circumstances that completely devalued this schools worth following Schiano's departure.

You can't drive something into the ground, get the best deal possible and then deserve a pat on the back and thats the mentality that you all have.

Why is SHI Stadium unfortunate? I really dont get it. Its not like its FUC stadium. When you pronounce S.H.I. Stadium, it does not sound like the word ****. I cannot figure out why that joke is even a thing. Its not funny, and its only our miserable "fans" saying it.
Because some on this board can’t get beyond the 13-year-old sense of humor.

Think what you want, but for now it looks good and it's not long term .
In 2024 a better one might be put in place if RU FB generates some excitement.Unless this happens :The two sides agreed to a five-year contract worth $7.25 million that runs through June 30, 2024 with an option for SHI International Corp. to extend the agreement by two years, which would be worth an additional $3.6 million, according to a copy of the contract obtained by Stadium.

As for when the naming rights deals were made, you got a point.
But the length of deal counts as well. Maryland signed their deal in 2006 and locked in for 26 years
Minnesota in 2005 for 25 years.
California committed for 15 years in their 2013 naming rights agreement.

Both high point and Audi walked, no longer wanted to be partners with RU athletics. Provident is a long time partner who jumped in to help out.

RU had several years to renegotiate the high point deal once moving to the big ten(language in the original deal) but never did. That was a huge miss.

I don't understand why Highpoint to SHI was a huge miss. If SHI was willing to pay more than HP was, then we did the right thing. HP was never really a big enough company to justify having a stadium naming rights deal. I am not surprised it ended...I never expected it to go past the initial contract term. Its not a large company, and not a local company.

Is there a reason J&J won't put their name on it? What about Colgate? They seem like no brainers. Both local and global.

If I were Rutgers, I would be hard pressed to continue a relationship with a company that perpetrated a huge environmental fraud on the world by disabling emissions control devices on their diesel vehicles, causing a lot of environmental damage, damage to their dealerships and their consumers. F them.

Exactly.

SHI is a $10 billion company. Founded in RU's backyard. Huge and enthusiastic contingent of Rutgers alums as employees and in executive positions. But nothing is good enough for some of our resident experts.

I don't think you ever see big pharma sign any significant naming rights deals. Probably same for consumer staples like P&G, Colgate, Kimberly Clark etc... It's usually financials, telcoms, etc and if you notice many of those deal listed above are from local or regional companies around the school.

So to me deals like High Point, SHI, Provident Bank are likely more than norm for college deals and especially for a "nobody" like us despite our market...it's not easy to attract top brands for college deals at any significant money if you haven't accomplished anything in either major sport.

As said above the length matters. You're right some of those deals were old but some of them will still be in those deals when we're out of ours. And in five years if SHI wants to stick around we'll be making the same as Kentucky. Either way if this is what we make given our lousy results at the very least it's set a base line which is comparable to others whether they're old deals or not.

Kentucky while not a name brand in football has had some results and is a huge brand in basketball so you maybe get a little bit of "reflection" of that as a sponsor. We have nothing in either sport to say RU is something that can be huge and successful where people want to be associated with us by the droves. So given those circumstances it's as good a deal as one can expect. Improve the product on the field and court and maybe we can get bigger and better deals.

I wonder if people are just miffed at the name of our chief sponsor? The money and deal are competitive which is saying a lot more than the team that plays in it. Would there be less of an issue if the company were called C.H.I.? Would fans be happier if Hobbs had signed a 10 year deal worth $100k if the name were a more recognized local name...say Benjamin Moore Stadium? Honeywell Stadium?

Most here will never be happy regardless what happens. If it was less money they rip the school for that. No matter who the sponsor is, they will rip it, unless maybe J&J for some reason, who of course has no interest in it. We got a great deal despite the on-field issues, and all people can do is make a stupid dad joke about SHI being the first three letters of the word ****. They are miserable fans of a miserable team, and that's just all they can come up with.

HPS is definitely a local company, based in northern NJ (Sussex Co).

The relocated to a suburb of Philadelphia in 2012.

EDIT: Maybe? I dont know...you cannot even google that company. I saw a press release that says their HQ relocated, and then I see on their website it still says Sparta.

Two different companies. Recall that "our" HP(S) actually rebranded to just High Point (and the naming rights was revised, just last season I think, to High Point Stadium instead of High Point Solutions Stadium), perhaps to create greater branding differentiation from the PA-based company.

Our sponsor (Sparta-based): https://www.highpoint.com/

Other company in PA: https://www.highpointsolutions.com/

I actually haven’t read the entire thread debate but here’s what I know...

Provident bank paid more than Audi paid (or was willing to pay for the club deal). Provident bank is the oldest bank in NJ, founded 30 years prior to our first football game so it seems they are paying RU for club naming rights to get their name out there.

SHI is a 10 billion dollar NJ company run by woman entrepreneurs who have never really marketed themselves. They have a high percentage of Rutgers graduates (more than any other university).

Therefore, both of these sponsorships are an attempt to raise their corporate profile and seem to be a perfect fit for the largest university in NJ.

Especially in the current political climate, where pharmaceutical costs are under scrutiny. I don't think any pharma company will risk being accused of having high prices because they "waste" millions of dollars on stadium naming rights.
Besides they’re already spending a ton on legal fees fighting 572 million dollar verdicts and who knows what else to come across the country.

This.

NJBiz just published a list of the 250 largest privately owned companies in NJ. Guess who was #2 on the list - SHI International. But I guess Hobbs should have gone after #1 so we could be Wakefern Foods Stadium.

As far as Provident - good solid NJ based bank. Nothing wrong with Provident sponsoring the club seats.

Texas next deal will be north of $6 MM considering they signed in 2006.

Doubt it...that's the naming rights for their baseball stadium, by a very local Austin-based institution (credit union). While it's impressive that UT can secure naming rights for their baseball facility, that doesn't necessarily mean it will command $6M per year starting in 2022. Maybe they'll get double or triple, in the neighborhood of $2M per year, which would be very impressive. Would be surprising if they got $6M, nearly seven-fold the current deal.

UT's football stadium does not have corporate naming rights. If they did it might be something ridiculous like $5-10M. It is named after their famous former coach (Darrell Royal)....DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium.

I think people have professional naming rights deals in their minds and megacap companies as well. But if you see that’s not usually the case...it’s local or regional companies that do these deals with colleges.

If you do you by some chance attract a megacap name you’ll likely need megacap worthy results and exposure especially to get any sort of lucrative terms. We don’t have either at the moment...only unfulfilled potential of being in a top conference in the top market in the country but not much to show for it as of now. Given that we’re about on par of what you’d expect with these deals and it’s okay.

EDIT: Btw if Wakefern Foods wanted to pay us more than SHI I’d have done that deal too.

Some info on Provident from Wikipedia and other sources.

Second largest NJ charted bank, with assets approaching $10 Billion.
https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct...bank2018.pdf&usg=AOvVaw1zGwTFEqtgaL36x9fd5G8Y

The Provident Institution for Savings was originally chartered by the State of New Jersey in 1839, becoming the first mutual savings bank in the history of the state.

At Provident Bank, commitment to our customers has been our promise since we opened our doors. It seems almost impossible now, but we had humble beginnings in a one room office in Jersey City, NJ, where our first day’s deposits totaled just $227. Since then, we have dedicated ourselves to serving the financial needs of our customers for more than 175 years.

Very few banks can say they’ve been around quite as long, but Provident survived the Civil War and two World Wars. And we didn’t just survive. We came out the other side stronger than before.

Through strategic mergers, we’ve grown from a community savings bank to a major financial institution, expanding our service area, increasing our market share, and adding talented people to our staff. We listen to our customers, investing in innovation to address their ever-evolving needs.

-------------------
There seems to always be some that think RU (or they) could, should do better on deals like this. We have two very solid NJ institutions step up to be sponsors, and it is somehow not good enough for some of our fans. SMH

Good evening everybody and welcome the the Shindig at the SHI where the Scarlet Knights of Rutgers will face off against the Minutemen of UMass to start the B1G season with a bang.” - dissolves to shot of Cannon Crew firing away.

Also keep in mind that in this area, we are competing with 7 professional stadiums who have deals with Met Life, Pepsi, Bud Ligh, SAP, Verizon, Prudential, Red Bull, Barclays and Citibank. we have a college stadium that gets used maybe 20 times a year. Our market is more local and so therefore are our sponsors. And J & J, a company many fans figures is a no brainier, is facing huge lawsuits settlements and probably is not in the stadium naming market.

Well said!

But, you can’t get around shi_. You just can’t! It’s just too stupid, and it’s Hobbs fault. He must go!! Go!! I’m sure he is a nice guy, but it doesn’t matter. Provident is okay, but why did we lose our national sponsor? Hobbs can’t hire our next coach.
