If Jennifer Aniston wasn’t on Friends people wouldn’t even remember the show.

I never understood trying to compare Seinfeld. It is in a class all it’s own.

I'd like to see the respective IQ's of each group.
Or age. If you were born in the mid-80s to mid-90s, you were probably too young to appreciate Seinfeld when it was first on. But you were the perfect age for Friends.

FWIW I was in Russia in the late 90's and Friends was on TV all the time. I ask my wise Russian/American guide if Seinfeld was also on, and he said no, Russians would not understand it and it would never translate.
So interesting, thanks...

"Seinfeld" is a bit overrated as a TV show, as, like "The Simpsons" the characters were exactly the same at the end as at the beginning. But it made me laugh out loud pretty much every episode.

"Friends" was pretty good early on, but then the characters became just overwhelmingly annoying as their most obnoxious traits were pretty much their only quality before too long. It's just not in the same universe as "Seinfeld."

I have a hard time imagining ANYBODY picking "Friends" over "Seinfeld."

Seinfeld was one of the greatest comedies of all-time, while Friends was a great comedy, but not as good as Seinfeld. Way too many people dismissing Friends, though, and the "whiny" comments are silly, as Seinfeld had maybe the whiniest character in history (George). My wife, who might be the funniest person I know, was a much bigger fan of Friends.

IMO Seinfeld was one of the two or three greatest comedy shows ever.
I only watched Friends a few times and I never thought it was the slightest bit funny. And the characters were completely unrelatable.

Obviously, this is a highly subjective question. However, in my opinion, the following stand out from the crowd:

All In The Family
M*A*S*H
Seinfeld

Each of these were very strong on the following three elements

Well written
Incredible cast
Pushed the envelope by touching on subjects that were considered very controversial for their time

There are plenty of great shows that touch on one or two of these, but not all three. I am a huge fan of The Office, but I don't really consider its content to be "groundbreaking". Personally, I never thought that much of Friends. Characters never really clicked and I thought most of the writing was predictable. But, again, this is a highly subjective question.

FRIENDS seemed mostly about Aniston's hair and her "smugglin peas."
I did like Lisa Kudrow (BA from Vassar in biology) though

Seinfeld was funny. Cosmo was like no other.

Seinfeld by a mile.

I remember the ads for the last episode of Friends billed it as "the best sitcom ever". Talk about not respecting those who came before you.... Seinfeld, Cheers, I Love Lucy, and The Honeymooners are all a complete tier above Friends.
