Kieth chimes in on the Rosario debate. Strongly on the side of those that think Ahmed has been "more selective, more patient".

The Cardinals will be livid if the Mets beat them out for a wild card spot by one game considering what's happened the last two nights.

Perhaps a new rule should be adopted requiring all games to go nine innings-to be completed at a future date- if the lead is three runs or fewer when weather makes further play impossible.

Impossible due to logistics, travel issues and baseball union I’m sure. Can’t control the weather but i get your point on the cardinals as I would feel the same if the shoe was on the other foot

Thank goodness game was called. I would have needed nitroglycerin pills when Diaz came in regardless of the score.

I see game is in books. Can some provide a rain delay summary? Two delays?
Yes. 2 delays. First delay happened in 6th inning and delay was for about 2 hours. Game should have been called then as rain was torrential and more storms on the way. They got in 2 more innings and another torrential rain storm in bottom of 8th. Mercifully game was called about an hour later as Mets had first and third with 0 outs. Where do you live? Or are vacationing?

A certain teams fans, are already worried about possible playoff match ups, lol. Best team in baseball shouldn't be worried about anyone. Multiple championships in a 5 year period, not going to happen, so far 0-2. On that note, don't let the Mets who were killed all season, and laughed at, sneak into the playoffs, and then last longer in said playoffs.[cheers]

Sort of like Cuse, I am not going to worry myself about the Yankees. Why do that? I want my Mets in the playoffs and if that happens, why stress about hoping the Yankees lose?
To me, baseball is a whole like more fun when both teams are good. F-it, let’s have ourselves some revenge in a subway series...

That works, and I'd go to war with our pitching staff against any team in a 5 or 7 game series. The Wild Card game is always a toss up. We've got a very nice young core of everyday players now,not bad from an
organization that's been mocked on for having a piss poor farm system. I've said many times, I don't care if teams have 15 great "prospects", most teams never integrate more than 2 new players into a starting line up yearly anyway. Most of these high profile minor leaguers are used as trade bait, and if they make it, they make it for someone else.I would never be so stupid as to call any group of young kids "The Core Four", as what happened with that original group will never be repeated in this day and age. So much more money to go around, and too many teams willing to buy a player here and there.

For those who follow closely...StL/Cubs/Nats/Phils- do any of these teams have an injury to a player like McNeil who could come back soon and be like a late season great pickup? Because our lineup suddenly becomes "sick" when McNeil is back.

My Nats just got Scherzer back after missing almost two months. We can most certainly be caught for the WC, but Scherzer coming back likely made it a bit tougher.

The starters are fine, it's the bullpen that will cost the team games. This is why the Nats are not out of the woods just yet even with Scherzer back.

Nats top 3 starters go head to head with the Mets top 3. Number 4/5 are not as good and the Mets BP has been well above average since the AS break.
Nats just have a nasty lineup from top to bottom. We close that gap when McNeil comes back but they are very very tough...

Anyone tired of having all of these statistics and acronyms (OBPS?) handed to us? I could care less about how many hits someone got five years ago while they pinch-hit against some relief pitcher. I also get the feeling that Keith and Ron are pretty sick of Gary continually throwing around these analytics and silly stats.

Just about every industry has been transformed by the ability to mine and act upon data. Not sure why sports should be any different.

Looked at the remaining schedule. Listed hardest to easiest (based on games remaining against over .500 teams)

1) WAS: 27 of 39 (+1.5)
2) PHI: 25 of 38 (-2)

4) CHI: 23 of 38 (-0)
5) STL: 23 of 40 (-0)
6) MIL: 18 of 38 (-2)

1) WAS: 27 of 35 - 77.1% (+1.5). Fangraphs Odds: 90.4%
2) PHI: 23 of 36 - 63.9% (-2). Odds: 11.4%
3) NYM: 21 of 35 - 60.0% (-1.5). Odds: 51.4%
4) CHI: 20 of 35 - 57.1% (DIV). Odds: 79.1%
5) STL: 16 of 37 - 43.2% (-0). Odds: 50.9%
6) MIL: 15 of 35 - 42.9% (-3.5). Odds: 12.6%

I am one for not. And while you're correct their are still meaningless stats out there and the pinch hit of someone five years ago is one of them.

I know it's a brief sample but like what I'm seeing from Sewald this time around. I think he has 5 k's I his last 2 outings. Out of 6 batters retired. Against a good hitting team in the Tribe.

On the rehab front:

Jeff McNeil led off the game for Syracuse. In true McNeil fashion, he was hit by a pitch, stole second, and later scored. He got an inning in RF, but then the rains came and that was that.

Brandon Nimmo was a DNP. No problem I don't think, just a scheduled day off.

Jed Lowrie DH'd for St. Lucie and went 1 for 4. He has yet to play in the field, which suggests that his return is not imminent.

I'm going for the Cubs as I have no reason to dislike them. Like PSU, cannot ever cheer for a Nat's win.
Bottomline- we need to only worry about what we do. We have complete control of our destiny, the way the schedule plays out...
I don't care about any of that. All I'm concerned with is the most favorable result for our bottom line. Hell I never root for the Yankees to win anything but I would if they were playing the Nats, Phils, Cubs or Cards or Brewers right now.

Well they'll need to get Lowrie ready to play some in the field if they want to possibly get him up before the month is out and thus eligible for a post-season roster

McNeil is going to play for the Cyclones tonight. I'm sure he'll be activated tomorrow as he becomes eligible.

Not necessarily. You don't have to be on the active roster by September 1 to be postseason eligible. You just have to be in the organization.
