OT: Traffic Down The Shore?

I'm heading to Seaside Heights from Bridgewater tomorrow morning. I need to be there by 9:45/10.

How has the traffic been moving? Any suggestions on what time to leave? It's about a 1hr 35min ride....

tomorrow is supposed to be gorgeous. I'd leave by 8am.........always better to be early than late. You can find a coffee shop to sit in if you are really early.

Leave at 8. Don't think GSP south would be a problem yet but if you really wanted to cut some of that could go to 18 south via Easton or River then get on GSP further south.

Living down here at the shore, 37 has a ton of lights. I would leave 15 mins earlier than you plan to be safe. The rush hour traffic will all be going in the opposite direction on the GSP.

I do it all the time (South Plainfield to SSH) so I think if you are on 287 by 8 you will be fine. I roll about 72 MPH and make it inside of an hour and a half. Your biggest problem will be 287 South, once you get through that you will fly. I also do not go down to exit 82 and take 87, I rather get off at 89c and take Mantaloking Road east over the bridge and make a right onto 35s and take that right into SSH. If you choose to take the 35 route watch your speed, the limit varies by town along the way and the cops are out there watching. Good Luck!

There are also two new bars on the boards, one is Midway Bar the others is Waves. They are nothing big or any kind of hang out joints but someplace to stop for a beverage. Midway is not bad to catch an afternoon game. It sits right on the boards and it is all open.

I would suggest leaving early. Better than being late. A lot of check ins are on Saturdays and Sundays. The wife and I just did a wednesday thru wednesday at Wildwood Crest. Took 206 - 539 - parkway. Too long. Took parkway to 287 on the way back......... less than 3 hours. No traffic on wednesdays.

True statement for the most part all depends on where you get on 18 and what time. 18 is a F'n disaster during rush hour from Piscataway through New Brunswick until you get below East Brunswick

Back in the Day, it was a chore to get down to the shore. Rte 35 was the way to go. No A/C in cars ,bumper to bumper .Don't know how or why people did it. BUT WE DID.

Rt 9 too as I remember. We didn't go too often because my dad hated the drive.

Former North Jersey guy here (Ridgewood, first 18 years of my life) who has lived in South Jersey since '02 (I'm way way down now, between exit 1 and 2 off the NJTPK). I grew up going to the northern beaches (Ortley, Lavalette, SSH) but I've been all southern since (first LBI, now Margate, Longport, Ocean City, etc.). It's been a minute since I've been to SSH (pre-Sandy) but it's in my blood and I miss it. Such a HUGE part of my childhood. Every summer. Sigh.

Anyway, my question to you all is how does it look post-Sandy? Is the northern pier still in existence? Have they rebuilt a lot?! So many good memories on that first pier, incl. the Jet Star and Poltergeist. Awesome ride. Then there was the Log Flume on the southern pier. Sittin backwards. Good times!!!!!!

Strangely enough, this Situation guy lives here in Manchester where the average age is 107 and the biggest event is when Susie’s tries a new gravy and biscuits recipe. And I love living here. Lots of state preserved land and hiking trails that hardly anyone uses.

They have been rebuilding a lot. The casino pier (north pier) is all redone and expanded. Southern end is redone as well. funtown pier is gone and is now a private byob beach. They are also working diligently to try and clean up the rest of the town. Check out the boardwalk cams

The area is coming back. The boards have been restored, the businesses are back and they have even been building some high end condos in SSH. I don't think it is as busy yet as it was in the pre Sandy days but it is getting there.

My advice is leave even earlier than you want and get breakfast down there. That way traffic will never be an issue no matter which way you go. And breakfast is rarely expensive,

No traffic in Manuel Antonio National Park and no WT either resorts Internet WiFi not the best is the only downfall.
