played it in May and the course was in great condition. Played yesterday and can’t believe how bad it was. Never seen it like that before. Not sure if it’s weather related or just too many rounds. Full disclosure, my round did not help the course condition.

I'm guessing that they never installed an automatic irrigation system. Trying to maintain healthy grass manually is impossible when it gets hot as it's been.

It’s also rained a lot...I’ve only had 1 softball game in 7 weeks because we’re stuck in a vicious mid-week rain followed by 4-5 days of high-heat sunny weekends. Probably a combo of the 2 not giving it a chance.

They have the 4 hour rule and a lot of traffic running through there plus it’s been really dry out. I can say the same about my lawn in May and now minus the divots.

Are the course rangers still overzealous? It was like that when I used to play the course, even as we always would zip through.

To be fair it’s the same for just about any course around here. That heat wave, plus traffic have ruined a ton of courses.

I don’t play there that often but the last two or three times I saw a lot of disrespect for the course by golfers. People leaving cigarette butts and sunflower seeds on the greens, riding carts right up to the greens, traps not raked, divots and ball marks not repaired, etc. Maybe these were isolated instances but it’s not something I’m used to seeing.

I haven’t played this year but yeah they are all over you to stay in the 4 hour pace. They’ll tell you to skip a hole but if you just play and not spend 10 minutes looking for a ball which some guys do, 4 hours is great.

Guy in our group was within a foot on the same hole back in May.
Story that goes with the ACE. I was alone when I holed out. A greenskeeper had just left and his cart was still in sight.Yelled to get verification but not heard. The next time I played, with a couple of guys , there was a freeking convention at the tee. Some course biggies ,golf architect etc.I asked them where were they when I needed them the last time.Said I WANTED TO GET A TROPHY. Just bustin'.Got it right back, probably didn't believe me,when I was told you had to play in a foursome for that.Said OK and dropped my ball on the grass tee.Hit it within 3 feet of the flag.Got a very nice compliment when one of the group said " Very commercial"..Made the putt for the Bird.Went through the woods to the 12th Tee. Had the honors and sliced the sucker into the woods. East come-Easy go.

Fond memory of my only hole in one,in over fifty years of playing. # 11.
@beaced Nice! For whatever reason, perhaps it's because it's a semi-blind uphill shot, I typically bogey that hole. To get an ace is a wonderful accomplishment anywhere, but 11 is amazing. Could you see that it had gone in from the tee box, or did you have to go up to the hole for your proof?

@RUScrew85 is going to distastefully disagree. His was the best hole-in-one ever!!

When I played it,close to 50 years ago it was a par 3.Green was slightly lower than the Tee.157 YARDS. Had to go up to the hole to see the ball.I am very sure that it was the second hole on the back 9.

11 is a short par 3 over a little creek, and is the second hole on the back nine. Go to the 1:55 mark of the video below and you'll see the hole. :)

Course was in crap condition when I played there on Good Friday. Couldn't differentiate between rough and fairways. Greens were OK. Played again in early June and conditions were improving. Then again last Saturday and it had taken a turn for the worse. Granted, there had been heavy, heavy rain early in the week and that screwed up several fairways. Some tee areas were awful too. But the course started out the year in poor condition and the weather hasn't helped at all.

11 has a huge green correct? Gotta hit it close on that one.

12 is my favorite hole. As I loved hitting driver over the creek on the par 5. Even from the back tees.
Loved the risk/reward on that hole.

Keeping the course in top condition should be the highest priority but I am looking forward to seeing the plans for the new golf course clubhouse. Hopefully, they go big with high end college facilities (locker rooms, training rooms, simulator rooms) along with a pro shop, every day club facilities, and an event space for university use and public rental (corporate gatherings, wedding ceremonies/receptions). If done right, this facility can serve the needs of the athletic department and even produce a little revenue.

Michigan recently opened a top notch facility.

Rutgers Golf Course will never be a top end facility. #1 it's way too short. Players learn nothing from that track. It's a driver/wedge course with zero difficulties. Its built on top of red shale and has a major problem supporting grass. It's simply a hackers course and will never be better than that.

Jeez, nevermind then:Unhappy:. Hopefully they still build a nice clubhouse so we can get drunk at the bar on football gamedays :Football:[cheers].

Just tailgate in the lots. Who wants to pay bar prices?
And from what I understand they can't sell booze on that property.

I'd pay for a good bar experience close to the stadium once in a while, especially in cold weather. Plenty of other fans would as well. Also, I think something like the new Michigan facility would do well on Busch campus

But it can't be on the golf course land. It has restrictions because of how it was acquired many years ago .

Blind tee shot. Nice!

My first hole-in-one was a blind tee shot also. I knew I hit it well, yet looked over the green before my buddy looks in the hole and said, “Let’s get some beer!”

You’re saying this should be my home course. LOL. Always had a soft spot for RU golf course. My first round of golf.

It's a fun course. Just lacking serious challenges. Great course for a 1-club tournament.
