The Dodgers are still in play when it comes to a potential trade for Diaz, reports SNY's Andy Martino, who adds that the Red Sox are not really in at the moment.
Los Angeles has a deep farm system with mutliple blue chip prospects, making them a very good potential fit as a trade partner for the Mets on Diaz.

No surprise there. Vargas has been a persona non grata since he threatened to punch out the Newsday reporter, and then declined to apologize.
Now the question is, are they done?
Read he is a glove guy. Had some good hitting years in lower ball. Mets know him.

You have it backwards. Mets sent Phils $2M, which covers his 2020 buyout. Mets save the approx. $3M remaining on his 2019 contract.
SNY was reporting Mets get 2 million. If it works out to be 3 million even better. Now nothing matters unless the Coupons use the money the right way next year

He actually may be pitching better than any stater that has a capital letter for his first name. Defensive prospect? Just keep him if that is the case.

Get Stroman for Vargas. That's essentially what happened here, right? Doesn't sound that bad from a baseball standpoint, and the Mets wanted to be rid of Vargas. Wonder how he'll do in Philadelphia. Gabe Kapler overestimates his ability to cope with difficult players.
Assuming Vargas isn't a terrible head case, the Phillies are better off; they gave up essentially nothing for him except a minor-league catcher with no bat. And the Phillies need a left-handed starter.

The prospects that we might get for Diaz from Boston are not good either. BVW could be the worst GM ever.
Ok now you're just being unfair. How about before you rip what BVW does, you wait until he actually does it? Then, rip to your heart's content.

No. Not my point. That trade probably isn't happening. That's what Boston offered. I suspect BVW will turn it down. If he does not, I'm right behind you with the pitchforks and torches!
Ok that's fair! You definitely have a better demeanor with all of this but it just looks like we're making moves to stay in the headlines. I don't see any larger picture here.
Vargas is a guy I wanted traded. He has also shown of recent, he can be very valuable to a contender. Can’t stand him but he has been pitching like a crafty vet that usually does well in post season.
They got nothing in return...maybe a 10% chance at a catcher that could get 2-3 years in the Bigs as best as a backup or 3rd catcher and they paid to do it?

Fornyou maybe but getting a .143 hitter or a pitcher with 2 TJ surgeries is the normal procedure for the Mets.

Being serious for a post - Mets are silly to trade NS. He is under control for another year. Mets need to get rid of the garbage, get their young players to the right positions, hope DS can learn to be an OF in the off season, and sign FA bullpen help. They don't need to get cute.
Vargas is a below average pitcher, with this trade he immediately becomes the Phillies 2nd best starter.
If you were to tell me we trade Vargas and the two pitching prospects to Toronto for Stroman, I would be ok with it. A dump and two mid tier prospects for a proven starter.
But since we already made the Toronto deal, this makes no sense. A guy who like him or not, has won in this league and having a good year and for what? Sorry, but it had to be all about personality. I also think that seems to be a Thor issue.!from this winter through now, it seems he pushed them off ever since he called them out for not signing deGrom sooner.
