As always, the Gold Cup draw is set up to produce a US-Mexico final. The US path to that final is pretty soft. If they get a result (win or draw) against Panama, they win the group. Then they play either Jamaica, El Salvador, or Curacao in the quarterfinals. Win that, and they advance to the semifinals against one of those same three teams, or possibly a Panama rematch. The US path was simplified by Honduras getting eliminated by Curacao.

Mexico, on the other hand, will have to deal with always dangerous Costa Rica. Or perhaps a potentially tricky rematch with Canada.

This Berhaulter stuff is just wrong. He’s highly respected in the soccer world and was always the favorite for the role because of it.

Jamaica was all over the goal early but only finished once against Curacao. Then in the 93rd minute, Curacao had an awesome strike to level the match at one. In the last minute, Curacao missed another shot within a foot or so wide of the goal. Finished in a draw.

If Honduras beats El Salvador, Curacao might advance. If El Salvador wins, Jamaica finishes 2nd in the group and will face the USA/Panama group first place team.

For Curacao to advance, El Salvador would need to lose by at least two goals, or lose 1-0.

So we get Curaco (assuming we get a result versus Panama). Except for T&T, the Caribbean teams did very well. Gold Cup has been better than I expected.

The Copa America has been terrific - especially in comparison. Plus the WWC. Loving the wall-to-wall soccer. I wish I got BEIN sports to also see the African Cup.

I watched the Jamaica game last night.
There was no urgency from either team.
I was amazed at the LACK of physical play on both teams.
I kept thinking a decent Premier league team could beat both of these teams handily.
Jamaica dominated first 15 minutes and then they decided to play differently.

A desultory performance...and then at 66 minutes, 2 minutes after Pulisic came in (we started a whole new 11 today), Altidore with a gorgeous bicycle kick for a goal. Very nice. 1-0 US.

Great time for soccer and yes, you should get BEIN, as some of the African Cup games have featured some superb play.

I saw Curacao play Vietnam on TV out here in the King's Cup which is in Thailand. They weren't bad. The U.S. should not take them lightly.

The difference between the Women's Coach and the Men's coach was evident yesterday, Tied 0-0 around the 65th minute, the USA coach brought in his best player and 2 other attacking players later (Instead of just throwing a team out there and seeing what happens_

He was not satisfied with the teams efforts (Even thou a tie was just as good as a win in regards to the next opponent).

USA needs more depth on their team. I wish the gold cup and copa america would combine.

Mexico - Costa Rica has been an interesting chess match so far. This is not a gimme game for Mexico, as this is a very experienced Costa Rican team. Rooting for them to beat Mexico.

Enjoyed watching Tab Ramos’s U20 team. Hopefully Tab gets his chance in the future.
I did as well, striker is sneaky good...uncanny ability to slip behind the D for breakaways without going offsides...had 3 breakaways vs france, finished 2.
I was impressed...

Mexico with a great goal by their striker (although some weak defense on that one) just before the half and Costa Rica just evened it up on a controversial PK (no VAR). Should be a fun final 35 minutes or so or maybe more if OT...

A "fun final 35 minutes" was a gross understatement. This match has been scintillating for the last 35 minutes with lots of end-to-end action and goal scoring opportunities, especially for Mexico, and a couple of absolutely superb saves by the CR keeper. Looks like it will go to OT, but 3 minutes of stoppage to get through first.

Ochoa with a game-saving save in the OT and Mexico just couldn't convert on so many good chances in OT (failed final passes). We go to PKs. I hate PKs.

Damn. Mexico wins the PKs 5-4 (out of 6 tries for each), with Ochoa making a great save on the last kick for CR.

Jamaica and Panama tied at half.
Panama had the best chances and seemed on the verge of scoring.

Will be interesting how USA comes out this match.
Do they sit Mckennie on a yellow card?
I would think they play their starting 11 from the first 2 matches.
not sure of other players yellow card status.

Mexico's Coach will miss Semi Finals due to yellow card accumulation.
They should still be heavy favorites

I get that Curaçao has a lot of Dutch “B” guys but we do NOT look good tonight. Other than finding the back of the net they have absolutely dominated the second half thus far.

So...thoughts on equal pay for the women? Both are in the semis of their respective tournaments.
