OT: David Ortiz shot in Dom.Rep.

Assuming these early descriptions of the shooting are accurate (and it's a big "if") it sure sounds like he was targeted.

I haven't seen any mention of the assailants attempting to rob him. And using a motorcycle to ride up on someone and shoot them would obviously be indicative of an assassination attempt.

The level of violence in many of the countries to our South seems to be escalating. Especially in terms of tourists ( ie Mexico).

Been to DR and Mexico many times over the years and never had an ounce of problems. But with what has been going on in both countries I will not be going back. It's too bad as the prices were great.

Sounds like he is going to be OK. From the video it doesn't look like an attempted robbery but more like a botched hit. He just goes up and shots him.

Anyway. Ortiz has escaped trouble before. His failed steroids test never stuck. He will be the first domino of steroids players making it into the HOF
He is a first ballot player.

Reports that this was a hit from a druglord who thought Ortiz was banging his wife.

If Ortiz was banging a druglord's wife, that's a pretty stupid play.

He was definitely targeted and there has to be a reason that he was the target of a hit. If it ain't a woman then it has to be something illegal like drugs, gambling or even money laundering.

But I tend to think him getting shot over a woman makes more sense than say drugs, because even Ortiz pulled some funny business with druglords, they know taking him out is bad business, Ortiz is practically a diety in the DR, killing him would bring a lot of heat and wouldn't be practical.

But a druglord finding out his wife is ******* Ortiz might drive him insane filled with rage and jealousy that the druglord mind is not right and could care less of the consequences of killing a DR legend like Ortiz.

How about this guy has made more money than he will be able to spend in a couple of lifetimes and poor criminals looking for a pay day tried to rob him. Why does it have to be drugs or screwing someone’s wife. This guy can screw any woman he wants. He is a multi millionaire and very famous. He can bed the vast majority of women 18 to 25 that he would want.

You think women care what a guy looks like ? It’s all about $$$$$$. Big Papi slayed plenty of chicken heads in Bean town. Many here maybe don’t like to hear that but that’s too bad. The Hispanic ball players love the white woman for a while before they marry latinas.

Robbery? Did you watch the video, if that was a robbery it's one of the worst planned and executed robbery's of all time, the shooter walked up to Ortiz and point blank shot him in the back and ran off.
