KH is in the conversation as greatest fielding 1B in history and without a doubt the most aggressive with a great arm. If the guy was right handed, he may have been a great fielding SS. You can’t use him as an example
I was thinking how it kind of sucks if you are a left-handed thrower trying to play baseball because your options are basically limited to 1B or the OF. Even though I played on a softball team with a hell of a 3B who was a lefty. Man he could pick it. But I have been wondering lately why a lefty couldn't play catcher?

Unless you are a pitcher, in which case your lefthandedness is a blessing.

There's a little thing called Range required to play SS. Hernando, as good as he was at 1B, did not have the range to play SS.

History is full of Lefty Catchers, no?

You happy with Harper so far? His batting has been lethargic--around 0.220 BA?

We right now I'm at a 5 out of 10 in my Harper Happiness Meter. His bat has been non-existent for a month. However he has still played good D and has a good OBP. And he's pulling off the leadership/face of the franchise deal. I still think he can hit .250/35/100. this season. He's always been streaky. He needs to get on a hot streak.

Then again so does Hoskins, Cutch, Franco and Odubel. No one is hitting outside of Segura (who I love), Hernandez is hot now and hitting .300 and Realmuto is playing well.

The pitching has only been so-so.

The Phils have been winning with smoke and mirrors. If/when they get back on track they should do very well.

That said I'm sure Atlanta, Wash and youse Metsos are saying basically the same thing about your teams.

As a Mets fan, we have yet to see Ramos rake anything other than the lawn. He's starting to look old. His defense (blocking balls) has taken a step back.

Well maybe he just had a real good half season with the Phils then. I loved him last year.

Read an article about that once. The bias against lefty catchers has traditionally been that their throws to third base are impeded by the righty batter standing in the box. How big a deal this would be in today's game is questionable.

The reality may simply be that there are no lefty catchers because there are no lefty catchers mitts.

Or at least in recent year because if you throw lefty and have a great arm they make a pitcher out of you.

Cry me a river!
The Mets will trade the Phils' smoke and mirrors for Familia, Vargas and Wilmer Font and a bucket of bubble gum. Deal?

If they dont put Smith in the lineup NOW with everyone hurt, then theyre dummer than we all thought. Knowing them, theyd start Rajai Davis and Todd Frazier in the outfield over Smith, the current Wilmer Flores of the team.

Like I said, Rajai Davis will be the spark the Mets needed all this time.

I watched the post game interview with Rajai. I hope he hangs around. He is funny quirky smart . A great interview. No ********. No spin. No Nook Lalooshian responses. We need him. Most guys these days are either white bread or cannot speak English. I am all in with the new Mr. Davis.

And Jared Kelenic just hit his 8th HR in A Ball.........we are going to regret trading this kid away....and as Kelenic begins his career with the Mariners, Cano will have 2 -3 years left on his contract with the Mets...ugh

I never like Familia - he's got no guts.
No nads, for sure. When you see those beads of sweat on his forehead, all I can see is Benitez 2.0 and that always tells me they can't handle the pressure. I remember in a LL game I was coaching a kid who would become a great HS football player and later a Township Cop was in a jam on the mound. I went out and talked to him,saw water pouring down his face and panic written all over him and tried to talk him off the ledge. As soon as I got back in the dugout I said to the other coaches," we're done, and we got no one else to pitch because of the pitching rules". He blew it, not because he wasn't good enough, but because he choked. Yes it's only Little League, but I truly believe that's something you either have or don't. Some rise to the occasion and want the spotlight on them, and others wither.
