A Maryland guy on TOS put in a Crystal Ball prediction for Rutgers earlier this month.

Had a torn meniscus last summer, I'm assuming that's why his recruitment is going into the spring.

In terms of position balance... who cares.

I've said this before but the best path for Rutgers to break through is by doing something unusual. This is why the Ash hire was dumb in football... Running Ohio State schemes without Ohio State talent is counterproductive.

I feel the same way about basketball. "Positionless" is a buzzword but it really is where basketball is going. Get a bunch of guys who can switch 1-5 defensively and be a part of a flowing offense. The days of "this guy handles the ball, this guy catches and shoots, this guy posts up" are going away.

Moreover, you don't need a traditional lineup to be good at the things Pikiell values. Baylor is #2 in the country in offensive rebounding... with the 150th-tallest roster. Their tallest starter right now is 6'7" (there was an injury to a 6'9" guy). This is the blueprint for success for Rutgers, offensively. They don't shoot it THAT well (141st in eFG%), they turn it over too much (264th in the country) but they have the 21st-rated Adjusted Offensive Efficiency because they rebound the heck out of the ball.

Houston's another good example. Their tallest starter is 6'5" but they're 19th in offensive rebounding and 15th in defensive efficiency.

Someone sees it. Point forward, stretch 4's - these are NBA terms and that's not even real basketball. They won't be happy until there's 500 points per game in that boring league. I'd rather watch roller derby.

You know he looks very good. Another thick body who hits the glass. He’s not talk at 6-4 but we have a lot of height on this team. Since Massoud isn’t happening, I don’t mind adding another wing to our team especially if he can shoot. He would play the 3. I bet Rutgers would be a good place for him.

I just saw someone has a crystal ball 50-50 between Rutgers and Maryland. I like this kid.

The key to all of that is recruiting the impossible/improbable.....

6'8''+ guy who is a shot blocker, quick feet and can shoot from the perimeter.

Offer list includes Maryland, Texas A+M, Va Tech, Oklahoma State, Kansas State, Ga Tech. I'd imagine there is a chance he can play, no?

Here’s what I’m seeing now. In looking at the rosters of the other Big 10 schools going into next year we all know our weaknesses. There’s a big man on most every team who is very difficult to handle; especially one like Wesson who can also shoot from the outside. Michigan has a monster, Michigan State has two or three monsters, Maryland is Big, Wisconsin always brings in post guys even though they lose one to graduation and so on.

We couldn’t handle this spot with the two Shaqs plus Johnson. Doucore is not the answer unless he drastically improves??? And quite frankly, as much as Doorson added defensively, we can no longer afford to have an offensive liability on the court; especially one who was 50% from the line.

So as far as addressing the current needs for next year, we need another center or big power forward. That doesn’t mean we can’t make it happen with Price plus a Big. I’m sure Pikiell knows how critical it is now to make sure we have the right players to match up but if He feels like Price can immediately contribute offensively, I trust Pikiell. We also need shooters and even though the field will be crowded, you have to play the hot hands. We never have enough shooters.

Pike and the staff are focused on improving the talent level of the entire roster.

Yes, roster management is important but you don't win without players.

It's not the X's & O's, it's the Jimmy's & the Joe's

Who knows, maybe next year for Massoud. One more losing season and they are likely out.

Let’s say Massoud wanted to transfer anyway and asked out of his commitment? If for some reason they said Yes, I assume he would have to sit one year? I think it’s unlikely he leaves this year but just asking??

Having a coaching change makes it easier to get out of a LOI and get a waiver to be able to play right away.

Man, I just had the feeling that Sofian committing for football had more to it? I’m excited for him as well but I guess nothing guaranteed Manning was out? I just really thought it was going to happen.

I always felt that Massoud was coming here. Im not saying there’s anything bad about Wake. I just think he would be happier here especially now with his brother coming. Maybe he can still find a way out? Parents can say he made a mistake and wants to be closer to home now and Rutgers is the right place?

I have no problem wit Price. He would be a bench player till senior yr. By then he probably develops into a solid starter

I hope at this point any player taken would be better than what we have. No guaranteed spots. Recruit better. Best players play. Period.

LOL, I'm sure that's what GT, VT, Texas A&M & OK State are thinking. I'm dumbfounded at that comment. The kid plays immediately and gets as many minutes as Caleb and Mathis as a Sophomore. This kid's a player, and he's put together.

Not much to take away from that video, but looks similar to Mathis from athletic/skill set perspective. That’s a good thing.

There’s much to like about Mathis but we don’t need another one of him. As we hopefully improve, Mathis will only play significant minutes if his shot improves. Our recruiting preference has to be for a shooter and a big man, or the closest approximation of both we can get.

He's the best defensive guard on the team... as a freshmen. He's going to play a ton.

What are you even saying? We need any number of players you can get that are like Mathis. I read the craziest crap on these boards.

Hearing that Marvin Price could be a late addition for the 2019 class. Impressive offer list.

@Russ Wood any insight?
I haven't thought about Price since sometime in late 2017. I remember him having some long arms and could kinda create his own shot. Other than that I don't' remember much about him.

Offense sells tickets, defense wins championships

Mathis will improve his shooting & selection over time as he matures.

You can’t coach athleticism, determination or competitiveness. The player’s got to bring that to the table. I’ll take that over stand & shoot guys every time.

MM is strong, athletic, and aggressive. Not nearly a rounded basketball player.

SJU didn’t have rounded basketball players either but they ran us off our own floor (one example).

Montez cannot shoot. They could. He is a poor decision maker, they were better. And they were later badly exposed. They were hot and they crushed us. IMO, he is the third best player, going forward, we brought in this year.

By far, MM was the most overrated player on the squad (as per this board). He has a lot to learn, more so than any of our three other frosh, in part because he is so gifted athletically and that carried him through his hs career. Minutes this year—open question for almost every one.

He’s our best defender at the guard position. That includes Gio, Kiss and Thiam - so I’m not sure why you are comparing him to the frosh. Big time teams have big time athletes. That’s how it works. He can score multiple ways and while he did play out of control at times, so do most freshman.

I’m not sure why you seem to be implying something about either his aptitude or coachability but neither seems to be the case. If you don’t trust the judgment of the board, read this article with quotes from Pike

So now he's bad because he's too athletic. i know it's Sunday but try to stop guzzling the church wine. If Mathis improves even just a little he will be one of the most impressive players on our team. What is overrated? Where would you rate the guys on our team as far as impact?

You saw for yourself what pikiell did with a Eugene that could barely dribble the ball from frosh to soph year. Yet you doubt that pikiell will be able to mold this athletic freak into a dangerous weapon? Ok..

First, you are a jerk. Get off the steroids.

People here have a higher opinion of him than I feel he deserves=overrated “as per this board.” He hasn’t fully developed as a BASKETBALL PLAYER because he was a superior hs athlete. I think both Ron and Myles will have greater impact than he.

Finally, you are a jackass. Learn to fkng read.

Not implying anything about aptitude. I’m discussing where he is now and where I think our other frosh will be. And yes, he’s a good defender.
