For the end of this season to be a success , we need to be playing Thursday . Getting knocked out on Wednesday in the bottom feeder games is not something to be proud of and will end a promising season on a sour note . It would be same old rutgers . The opportunity is there for us to finish strong. Beat Indiana and get a bye or lose and win Wednesday Just get to Thursday and see what happens .

This season is already a success. Even if we lose tomorrow and next Wednesday.

Nope. Some good things yes. But if we stink it up the last week and go 0-3 that’s not good.
The opportunity is there. Time to get it done.

I must clarify that I am saying for the end of the season to be a success we need to play thursday . But for the whole season yeah it’s been successful overall.
We can’t consider and 0-3 finish successful by any measure .

Freshman players better then I expected and every game is competitive. An off-season of S&C and free throw shooting, more consistency, add 2 more guards including a playmaker and a quick shooter/defender, and we're well positioned for the next few years.
The B1G Tournament is icing on the cake.

Yeah can’t end season losing to NW or Nebraska.

But I fear that the Thiam situation has taken the wind out of the team’s sails.

I think the combination of a very tough loss at home and that situation didn’t help at all today. Time for coach to turn the page with the “it’s a new season” mantra.

You have to wonder how much of a distraction the Thiam situation has become. If they play like today, Wednesday will be another loss.

Today was a combo of losing to State, playing a buzzsaw on their Sr day, and Issa. The team will move on from Issa by Weds. They’re kids, just win and I agree we NEED the W in Weds.

I don't buy any of it. Yes, he's a teammate and contributes sometimes, but once you step on the court, all bets are off. If he was a lights out shooter the guys might think about it. Not the case at all. Show concern after the game as a human being.

This season really doesn't matter.
It all comes down to how we do next season and the following.
Either we turn the corner or we don't.
No excuse not to qualify next season for the NIT and the NCAA the following year.
This is it.
The next two seasons is the whole kit and and kaboodle.

Just a cautionary tale....

Let's rewind a year....Freeman, Candido Sa, Mike Williams etc on Senior Day and Sanders wearing a white warmup with the seniors who were graduating.

Illinois pretty much wiped the floor with RU in a convincing win.

RU drew Minnesota who some said packed it in as an 11 seed...RU as the 14 seed prevailed...Minnesota didnt take a disappointing finish and loss to RU into the following season.....they added their freshman and upperclassmen got a little better and are going to the NCAAS this year.

RUs disappointed fans on senior day last year but won 2 games at MSG to total up 5 overall B1G wins. And Indiana was a part of equation of momentum into next year by RU defeating the Hoosiers....and then a helluva game vs Purdue.

Some fans say MSG didn't matter much and that 3-15 is the record and RU finished last. Well now RU finished tied for 10th with Penn State and Illinois and won 7 total B1G games so far.

I don't know what path is more important but I just look at the entire body of work vs the B1G. And regardless of Chicago, RU has exceeded expectations given Eugene's injury and hobbled play for most of the B1G and the expected overexposure of Geo as opponent's focus of the game plan defensively by opponents.

RU can beat Nebraska and some fans may roll their eyes as if it's a given. Nothing is a given, just like RU as a 14 seed last year showed.

In whatever case you want to slice it, RU has changed the mindsets of fans and expectations, whether those are reasonable or not doesn't matter. If you win, great, play Thursday and get a bunch of freshman a critical lesson on conference tournament play, even in a 12-13 matchup.

Myles, Carter, Harper, Caleb, Montez, Kiss all have had 20 games vs the B1G, but a neutral court and new arena and setting are valuable elements of the growth cycle.

Finishing in a 3 way tie with PSU, Illinois is a good huge step...just dont overhype this "bottom feeder" , commentary....when the shoe was on the other foot, I never saw it that way and certainly don't now.

That would have been Al Mcguire

I agree with your and Al's statement. [cheers]

Can’t see us losing to Nebraska. They barely play 7-8 players right now and our depth will be key. I believe we might play Maryland on Thursday if we win and I think we have almost zero chance in that game. I wouldn’t be surprised if Maryland wins the B1G tourney. Maryland is a terrible matchup for us.

If you take a look at our losses to Illinois, Iowa, and Penn State, we're three plays away from a 10 win, .500 conference record this season. Of course, a few plays here and there, and things could have gone the other way as well. Point being that we're not chopped liver, even if we do play like it sometimes.

imho Watson is the key to the Nebraska game. If he is on and hitting shots we have a tough game ahead of us. If he struggles I think we advance.

Watch for this early in the game.

This season did matter. If we finished 14th place again there wouldn’t be much hope for a high finish next year. We have that now.
