Finally watching it for the past month or so. Halfway through season 4. Damn fine show. I had high expectations and they have been exceeded. Just saw the episode where Omar and his crew wrapped him up in thick magazines to protect him from a jail shank. Good stuff!

I've never watched it. Maybe I'll try it once the season of True Detective and Shameless are through. (I know this is on HBO)

I have been watching the Sopranos. On your say so I will take a shot at the Wire.I dislike contrived programs so I am sceptical of this one. The acting has to look real. Ala the Sopranos.

Wow that is an old show. But enjoy it. I didn't like Season 2. It shows a disconnect from the rest of the seasons.

Good point about season 2 and the port storyline. It was a good arc, but looking at the other seasons, it does seem out of place.

A bunch of folks made their big breaks in The Wire, including Idris Elba and Michael K. Williams.

Got it, thanks! Once again, very good story in season 2, but seasons 1, 3, and so far 4, are more directly focused on the drug trade.

Yup I agree. Ive probably seen all seasons about 4 times. When I first saw season 2 I wasn't that happy with it. After the rewatching it I've come to appreciate it more and more. So many actors in this show went on to have good careers. Omar comin

What about in season 4, just a few episodes ago, when Omar ran out of Honey Nut Cheerios and put on a bright blue or teal robe and pants with a gun in the waistband. He goes to the store down the block and all the kids and people scatter as he walks screaming "Omar coming". Freaking priceless.

Truly sad what's happened there. Gorgeous Victorian home areas around Guilford have even turned into armed robbery areas.

I lived just outside of Baltimore for 8 months
It had some cool areas back them but you could see the writing on the wall that it was starting to change for the worse

The govt officials in charge there are horrible

The Wire is the best tv show ever. It should be required viewing in every high school in America. It just does a great job explaining how things work in the real world.

Yes it is. It is real world. From being dead/missing in the wrong zip code, to how the statewide school tests are rigged in season 4, the unions dying in season 2, the crooked police in all seasons. Such a great show. David Simon who was creator of The Wire now has The Deuce going on HBO and its pretty good.

I didn’t like season 2 at first. But watching it again I came to appreciate it. The death of the white, working class in Baltimore is the theme. I can relate to that and I think many in New Jersey can to similar situations. My uncle was a longshoremen. The two leads in that season, frank and nick, are good.

The Wire is the best show ever made by HBO. Great acting and writing more popular now then ever before. It has sprung many superstars that were nobody’s before the wire.
The best thing HBO ever put out is Band of Brothers but The Wire and Sopranos is right after it.

One of the greatest scenes ever is McNulty trying to make a left hand turn (Twice!) while drunk, that is all I'll say so not to spoil.

The Wire is one of the great shows ever. Another show about Baltimore is one of the most underrated, not talked about show in history of all of TV, Homicide: Life on the Streets. First 2, 3 seasons was basically The Wire with all of Network TV rules. It was a great show and Pembleton and Bayless should be as talked about as Sipowicz and Simone.

Too bad TV execs started real life looking detectives with pretty people. And its still messed up that you cant find Homicide ANYWHERE except on Amazon and its high priced DVDs.

They are the worst. Think of the last Mayor who advocated for letting thugs riot...you know, so they can get it out of their system. Really great for the business owners there, including one who I am aware of that got some nice brain injuries for his trouble. All based off of a lie.

McNulty’s tried and true line: “What the f did I do?”

You are right about that. Didn’t some of the Homicide actors make their way over to The Wire? Also for Wire fans, there is a book coming out about the making of it from a NY Times writer. Think it’s called All the Pieces Matter.

The first few episodes were great, but the scene in episode 4 (season 1) where they are investigating a crime scene and most of the dialogue is just the F-word is what hooked me on the show. Look on Youtube, the scene is there (type in the wire and f-word).

Yes. "Det Meldrick Taylor" was the newspaper reporter on The Wire. "Det Gharty" was a judge on The Wire. And of course "Detective Munch" was Detective Munch EVERYWHERE.

Another great series by the creator of The Wire is called The Corner (came out before The Wire also on HBO). Same premise, set in the gritty streets of Baltimore but it gives an insight into not only the drug, gang life but the life of those affected by drugs (addicts, children, etc.) It’s a mini series—only 6 episodes but I highly recommend it. Won a prime time Emmy back in 2000 and most if not all of the episodes are available on YouTube.

Is season 2 the docks? Definitely felt out of place for me. But The Wire is still my favorite show of all time.

The joke when we joined the B1G we should have named our trophy something like "The Soprano Wire." or something relating the two shows lol.

I'm in MoCo Maryland which is about as far off from Baltimore as Manhatten is from Newark.

As a Hispanic, I don't culturally identify with the Italian mob or Baltimore street gangs, but the shows are great and two of my all-time favorites.

The Soprano vs. The Wire Trophy!
