Recruiting Rankings

Can’t say rankings don’t matter at all and not saying we don’t need to improve...but although the ‘numbers don’t lie’, they don’t always tell the truth either. Some of our higher-rated classes in reality would be ranked in the 70’s if you ever revisited them. I think we got a couple of late steals and overall added quality prospects...but the OL/DL situation is still beyond shaky.

Blind or some other kind of optimism.

We closed fairly strong and, coming off of 1-11, it could have been way worse. Hardest nut to crack is getting some studs in the state to commit.
The recruit locally paradigm has crippled us for decades and generations. We need Big Ten caliber athletes and football players. No one cares where they come from. The focus on NJ is serious misjudgement from the leadership here. Might succeed after a sustained period of success. Lots of programs succeed without landing top notch local talent. Boise State comes to mind. Others here could provide other examples, even from the Big Ten.

Rivals does message boards well, recruiting rankings 24/7 composite is the most fair, since it balances the bias that Rivals/ESPN/247 has for kids that only camp with them
And he will not admit it either.
Jumped the shark here.
nope I will, with our 20th recruit we just eeked ahead of a 13 person class at Illinois (still lowest average rating in big ten)

WE DID IT, EXTEND ASH!!! Big Ten championship may be out of reach this year, but 2020 watch out now

Man you’re right again. I base my happiness on recruiting rankings! This is a message board where we talk about our happiness, and not just Rutgers football which makes up a very small percentage of our happiness (hopefully, if not you take a sport too seriously)

That, or it’s possible to be happy as a person and unhappy about a recruiting class for one year of a college football team

How does Nebraska get 27 recruits? However the star total is impressive.

You strike me as a person who finds the worse in everything. You spent an awful lot of time defending your position, which initially had no stated basis (the 247 rankings, which YOU consider "most fair.". Once you get beyond the top 4 or 5 in our conference, the recruiting rankings are based on infinitesimal differences in rankings/judgements. Not going to go out of my way making a post about how bad one team or another sucks because we are 0.04 or 0.005 increments less than another team. But if that's what you like to do, have at it.

Imagining how bad it could have been, I guess.

We got help in some very key areas.

We weren’t too far from picking off the middling teams, even with one of the worst statistical seasons ever for a college QB.

Rankings are just for fun. It’s not easy to project kids once you get past the no-brainers.

C’mon get with the program and put those rosy colored glasses on.

It doesn't matter where our recruiting class is ranked, we still end season ranked around 100.

all I ask for is guys with respectable offers. It seems like this class fits the bill for the most part. Take toure for example. He was/is a 2* recruit yet he had Wisconsin hot on his trails. Guys like Williams, king, young, bunch, wise, etc. had fairly nice offer sheets.

Ranking first, we are competitive with the middle of the pack, there are 3or 4 kids in this group that could easily be 4*. this class really has a nice group of talented athletes especially with the pick ups today. A lot of these kids (including the transfers pending eligibility) will play early. Still issues on the O-line but the transfer should help, and we were not going to pick up freshman OL that was going to come in and take over a tackle spot. (perhaps our new OL coach can get more out of some of what is already here than the Blasé was able to do, the bar is pretty damn low so hopefully some stride can be made with some of the OL kids that are here. DL is still an issue but Micah Clark moving over makes a lot of sense. Stanley King will help right away, and the running back talent will also help as receivers.
While we aren't going to challenge the upper eschelon of the division, there is more talent top to bottom in this group than in the previous three classes.

We all want a class full of 4 and 5 stars. That hasn't ever and probably never will happen at RU. That said, I'm satisfied but not overjoyed with this class. We landed more than a few good players.

Agreed. Some quality players added. We have some issues for sure but that is who we are really. I will never say never for the future but we never were a program that killed it in recruiting sans a few of Schiano’s last years. The guy killed himself to get to that point. Who can blame him for wanting to be in the NFL.

I think Ash is also working very hard. As a fan, I’m rooting for 6 wins again.

We also have some key transfers coming in.

No other Big 10 team lost a player as valuable as their best Offensive Lineman to transfer, who was a senior Captain. Jonah Jackson. That really negatively impacts the already shaky Offensive line in a BIG WAY.
And we saw last year how our QB does under pressure..

Under the circumstances, this class is about what you can hope for. If you want better recruits, either need to win more games or fire Ash.

Can't disagree with most of the comments regarding the offensive line, RU offensive problems start there, I keep going back to 2 years ago and Jerry Kill. Kills offense was boring as hell but he won a number of big ten games and developed a serviceable O line for what we were capable of doing. One year later we were back to an O line that couldn't block anybody in any circumstance. Was the Coach B that bad, or was it also the scheme?

As critical as I’ve been of this program lately, after a historically bad season, tough competition and a head coach that is on the hot seat...this class really isn’t bad with those things considered.

Why are you on here? If you are going to piss in the wheaties go elsewhere. As far as 24/7 being better...you are just a homer that followed them from here so they have to be better. We may not have the highest rated or sexiest class on paper but I am willing to bet we have some players coming in. Kids that are hungry. Kids that got overlooked Kids that our coaches believe in. So please go elsewhere if you want to just be negative. Suppose you are pissed we lost Schiano to New England too.

Combintion of a young QB and a shaky OL. Kill won a few games but didn’t develop much and we had one of our best RBs ever who was a one and done. This year we were young at RB, QB and our best OL played hurt most of the year. You can only scheme so much. It hurts that Jackson left but crying about it won’t do ANYTHING. Gotta move forward. Run the call and develop Art.

Develop another QB and make a switch if there is no improvement in Art.
