he very well could have done both.... I know when we were after him, it was between us and another northeastern school, probably Upenn...the story was that he was on that campus and for some reason, changed his mind, and I guess it was not too late to do so, somehow....

this would have had to have happened after the
semester at Indiana, of course.....but I do remember this happening

anyway, top five lists are extremely tough, and I would need considerable time to weigh all I remember......but throwing out an early, and probably needing to be a later revised list,

1) Jammin James Bailey......for those who never saw him play, you would have loved
him..... a little known fact is that he is THE all time
dunk leader in college basketball history....doing it all in
three years

2) Phil, the thrill, Sellers:......the primary driving force to getting to the final four.
the leader of the team, and a bull on the court

3) John Battle.......it gets tough here, but agree with the poster above.....he came out
of no where, after a mediocre freshman year

4) Roy Hinson.......similar to James as far as controlling games....not the slam dunk
specialist as he was, but a great center for us

5) Q Douby..............when he was on, he was really on.....had some really classic
games versus Syracuse, tortured them....but we often fell short

I like how Eugene has moved down to the post again. I feel like early in the year he wanted to be more of a wing player and shoot 3s. His identity and the team offensive identity was off and they paid the price with some bad losses. I’d still like him to challenge his guy and shoot the 3 if he is given a ton of room, but he’s better in the post for us

The 2004 NIT run is when I started as a fan, so obviously much less history here. But my top 5 would be some combination of Douby, Omoruyi, Mack, Baker, and N'diaye.

Very good chance Harper cracks this list by 2022.

Yeah, I found a few articles at the time that it was down to us and UPenn for his final commitment. Didn't see anything that ever said he committed there, though, but online articles from 1995 are sparse.

one of my favorite memories of Bailey was watching him dismantle a ranked and favored
Cincy team at the garden.....

they were never in the game....down 20 early, finished that way

Hinson played at the same time as John Pinone, who had won all american awards for
Nova, I think it was.....I made a bet with a drug rep that Hinson would have a better
pro career, and won that bet....I don't think Pinone was in the pros for any length of time

I remember your bet with guy about Pinone. I remember Nova played us when Hinson and Pinone were frosh.,Pinone killed him. 4 years later in an All-star game, Hinson destroyed him in that game. I was a senior in high school when Hinson was a frosh at RU.

Salvo with the long socks and Kent was a warrior down low but couldn’t hit a foul shot, lol.

That NIT run was also a favorite memory for my wife and I

First the home game wins and then the garden. Winning a game at the garden, running downstairs to the ticket office to buy tickets for the next game. The bars around the garden filled with RU fans, Drinking and chanting loudly. Lots of fun, close exciting wins, right up to the final

Right – – he was able to do this because some of his high school advanced placement courses counted towards his associates degree — his associates degree was a combination of Indiana credits, junior college credits and advanced placement credits.

He actually registered at both Penn and RU before enrolling here.
