but Hobbs has to come up with a new seating arrangement to inject life into the bottom sideline seats. I know most are diehard fans or give aways from the 'Ole Glory days of RU basketball in the 70s fans, but there is no energy coming from those seats. Better to have students or the grandkids of those season ticket holders in those seats. RU needs to turn the page on the past and move towards the future. It's bad when the head coach whose focused on the game has to turn around and prompt the crowd to make noise.

After a great win tonight, this is your most pressing thought...come on! Crowd got excited late in first half with people like myself who sit in the 100's making noise with many other fans in the 100 sections.

You gotta be kidding me. The problem with the crowd noise is because the sideline seat don't make enough noise? Gimme a break. The coach does't have to prompt the crowd to make noise. Believe me, fans who come out in 0 degree wind chill weather know when to cheer. The first half of the first half was terrible. All you heard was well deserved loud moans. But when we tidied up and made the run, the RAC was rockin.

If you need to criticize, where were the students? Half full at the beginning and reached maybe 3/4 full later at best. Us old fat rich people in the 100"s, who have been showing up for all the lean years were up and yelling from the end of the first half through the end. Can you believe it? We are better than Indiana!

Over the 40 years I've had season tickets, I've probably spent around $100K between tickets and seat licenses, and that's just for men's basketball. I can count on one hand the number of games I've missed in all those years. Our section is loud, knowledgeable, loyal and supportive - we are not fair weather fans and we show up for every game. So just stop with the criticism of the people in the sideline seats.

Wenzel did the same thing in the "good old days" when the students sat behind the bench and half of 114. I and the rest of the people in the sideline seats would probably know this because we're at all of the games unlike students or those that like to buy cheap tix and move down to the empty seats in the 200's.

You're beating a dead horse. If the replacement of the 118 section didn't give you a clue that this isn't going to happen then I can't help you. Alienating the very people who have supported the program the most both financially and with their butts in the seats game after game after game through a lot of losing is not the way to inject life into the program. The acoustics of the building lend itself to a great home court advantage without having to move students to part of the sideline seats. But the students need to be there and be active. I would also know because I used to sit there as a student and that's where the action and leadership always was. There are 5-20 dudes in 109 are into it but most of the other students don't do much of anything when they even bother to show up.

Yes. I'm a double RU alum from the 90s and 00s and I have been plenty involved with RU athletics. Our basketball fan base needs to expand from the glory days of the 1977-78 season. No disrespect. Great win tonight but we need more energy in sideline seating. RU should have beat Indiana by 20plus tonight. The crowd plays a bigger role when the game is tight. Just my two cents.

Also, it doesn't help when the crowd - usually some sideline fans - organically (?) start some cheer or chant and the stupid canned music kicks in for no reason.

I think when it was like 29-23 or so the crowd got loud for the first time on defense and immediately caused a turnover. Need to get that noise much earlier in games...like the start...we have not had a buzz in the building since the Rice years maybe the Florida game......hopefully for Michigan the students are bringing it as well as the general pop

Can we start by getting the student section closer to the floor. I've never seen any other school have 20 ft of primetime space for the cheerleaders so they can hoo ha around. Usually they are crunched on the baseline. Get the student section closer. We need one line, not three. Plus you can't even check out the ones in the back

I understand that we would need more students to show out to fill it, but with the program on the rise we should contact hobbs about this. Also what is the roster for the cheer squad now? They have more people than the football team

The energy in the building has always come from the student section. Many 70-year old season ticket holders came out on a frigid night to cheer on the team tonight. Many 20-year old students stayed in their dorms. It was a very disappointing student section tonight. You should focus your criticism there first!

The best atmosphere is when the students show and overflow goes into the 300 level. That’s when the RAC really rocks.

not sure they do that anymore, what happens is they all just try to cram into the student section because no one checks...back in my day all the seats were assigned and sometimes we got banished to 300 and tried to sneak in by using our friends tix or use tix from previous games but covering up the name to get in.

Student section was really eh. It should be packed to the gills and students should be there early. There’s a small group of students who are extra loud but it’s not quite there yet.

I don’t mind the extra cheerleaders and dance team. Both are excellent; especially the dance team.

Not sure either but the demand hasn’t been there. You get students up there and the place gets real loud and gets the casual fan involved.

I remember when, (now I sound like an old fart) when the students sat behind the bench and when the overflow students ended up in the 300's. I also remember when the now student section, was three, maybe four rows closer to the Court. Lastly, the band used to be in the center section in the the first few rows and the students then were around them. we lose the section the band is in as no one wants to sit in front or behind them.

My opinion, the "new" 118 is a disaster. But, it was probably the easiest section to change. But, the "high roller" seats should not be on the floor. They should take the first row or two from the 200 sections, mid court, and make them the high roller seats. The Riot Squad and students via lottery and points system, should sit in the "new 118". This would be reward. Frankly, I went down there are stood in the first, second and third row. THE VIEW OF THE GAME SUCKS!!!.

Yes, my plan would make those who have the first rows in the 200 sections not happy, but over time and wins, people will survive.

Would love to see students in both end zones, but if 118 is needed as a concession to donors, dignitaries, whatever, I guess it's ok. But I agree it's crazy to have so much space between the court and students at the other end. Moving it up would have a significant impact.

Students should have to put their phone in a locker for 2 hours if they're going to the game. 90% of them just sit down and look at social media as it is. They'll likely show up for Michigan but will be there to cheer?

I agree that filling the student section is the first priority, but I miss the days when there were students behind the bench. I think 116 could be used for that purpose. Use a lottery system and it would get you about 50 students into the lower section in the opposite corner from the current student section. Might also inject a little life into the 100 level without really disrupting too much. As near as I can tell those seats are used for families/guests of the program right now

We had the students closer years back...their bleachers used to expand into the area now occupied by the cheerleaders...the band also was on the other side of the student section, blasting into the visitors team huddles but rumor has it that there were complaints from visiting teams (to the NCAA) which resulted in us having to move the band to the other side and also move the student section back to its current location.

I know it used to be closer, but there is no way the NCAA made them move the student section back. Every other school has theirs ontop of the court. I heard the cheerleading/dance coaches asked for that space, but could be rumor. Either way they don't need a football roster full of cheerleaders. Move the student section out, give us more home court advantage.

I would've liked to see more students last night, but I want to say kudos to those who did attend. The students who did show up, waiting 10-15 minutes in that unbelievably cold, windy weather for a bus to take them to the RAC, deserve some recognition.

Cheerleaders get athletic scholarships. At least they did at FAU some years back. Good way to fulfill Title IX requirements when you have a football team to balance out. Dance team too, would guess.

Obviously they get scholarships, I am not arguing that. You are missing the point
