He has no one to blame but himself. He came here to be a shooter, especially from beyond the arc. He has been a disaster offensively. Thiam hasn't been much better.

40% in three conference games. He maybe wasn't meeting expectations but "disaster" is wrong.

Was he benched for reasons we might not know (something disciplinary?) or did Pike simply not play him? He hasn't been that impressive, but he clearly has some talent, so it's surprising - if he was benched, my guess is because he's too much of a liability defensively (and the effort isn't always there).

A lot of people on the board were calling for less minutes for Kiss and Thiam. We finally got it tonight and the offense looked better. Neither player is really a threat to take it to the basket at all despite Thiams length and Kiss's 40" verticle. That just puts more pressure on Geo to create every possession. More minutes for Mathis Harper and McConnell mean more minutes to perimeter players who can create off the dribble. Harper and Mathis both look phenomenal in the open court. I'd still like to see us push more including secondary breaks where I feel Mathis and Harper can still feast

sometimes certain lineups and players dont suit the teams we play. With the tenacity and up in ur face D they played kiss woulda been eaten alive. He will play again, a tightened lineup for this game was needed and it worked. Happy for Pike and the boys.

Both Kiss and Thiam will be vital cogs as we head towards March. Guaranteed.

Kiss had trouble dribbling the ball against Maryland, seemed like about four times he lost the ball a bit when he was dribbling. That won't fly in the B10.

Was it confirmed that he was just a healthy scratch coach's decision compared to sick/injury/team rules issue? That was really what I was asking in this thread.

Notice who played vital minutes down the stretch to seal the win? Issa Thiam. Most of you posters are clueless in evaluating him. His offense has been non existent since Fordham but guess what: he can basically guard players 1-5 in a half court set. His laterally quickness for a player his height is rarely seen. RU can not rely on his offense and that’s where the other players come. As long as he doesn’t commit turnovers and take bad shots and continues to play tough defense Issa is a plus player. Guess what RU fans you’ll continue to see him get minutes and closing out shooters on the perimeter. Heck he may even be able to make a basket or two. Issa is a valuable piece of this team.

Kiss needs to be confident as a spot up shooter on offense and hit the boards on defense. He’s not a BIG level perimeter defender nor does he have the handle to bring the ball up the court. If he commits to hitting his spot up shots and banging down low he will have a role on this team.

Make no mistake that the bulk of playing time should be going to our freshman.

In the postgame presser he said "we're going to need Peter" and then basically said it was a DNP.

Based upon tonight’s performance, if coach’s is challenging either Issa or Peter to “prove it,” next game Peter gets a chance. Got nothing from Issa.

I think this might be true. Kiss will be called upon at some point this year maybe even the next game. let tonight be a learning lesson for him. Also the staff had to do some huge soul searching in the reevaluating process as they expected so much out of Kiss

Just an assumption: Pike is making a statement to Kiss for him to elevate his game and to play better defense. Pike didn't play Shaq Carter at beginning of year until Shaq improved his game and it will be same with Kiss. Kiss will play but with reduced minutes at some point going forwards

Go back and look at how often issas man scored on him especially on pull back shots where his”length” was no issue.

He may yet get there, but to say that he played great deal tonight is absurd. It’s a kin to saying he’s a great three-point shooter because he shot a lot of three-pointers in his time here -just because he sent out to play D doesn’t mean he played great d. Sometimes The best option doesn’t always equate to affect your performance

Again. Look who Pike played down the stretch of game to seal win. Issa gives you more than less on defense. He’s an incomplete player (no confidence on offense) but his length and quickness are valued enough to get quality minutes.

Defense probably was the main reason Issa played and Kiss sat tonight. While it was a direct message for Kiss, others on the team should take note because it could be them another night. I like the move and that does not mean I want him glued to the bench the rest of the year.

Issa has 2 points in his last 86 minutes on 0-15 shooting...so he better play good defense...don't think we should give up on him because he has some obvious talent but think Kiss has contributed a little more this year and also deserves some time.
