We need a bonafide heavyweight in 2020 class. No ifs, ands, or buts. We also need to go all out to land a big name upperweight for the SKWC in order to take the next level.

I hear you. We also need more SKWC members, pin pool pledges, golf sponsors, etc. Basically the money to sponsor resident athletes. In the world we now live, it’s a club arms race and we need the resources to compete.

Thought you guys might like to see this list. One of the posters on BWI has the most dominant wrestlers calculated. Not sure, but doubt, if this includes this weekend's action (what little of it there was). For those that don't know, MDW is calculated by adding all of your team match points (6 = pin, 5 = TF, 4 = MD, 3 = DEC) and dividing by the number of matches. This ends up being the determination for the MDW award that is given by the NCAA.

Ash at #5 and Suriano at #16.

Interesting poll on the Hawkeye Report. Fix or Suriano?

Currently running 62%-38% for Suriano with 53 votes cast. I think Nick wins this one.

Thanks for this. I'd love to see where Ash was ranked in past years. This year, he seems like a different wrestler. His aggression is up tremendously and he is looking to destroy his opponent.

Hed admit it’s always been about him and the high end guys. AA vs kolodzik is the big barometer. Not AA vs anyone else.

And AA vs micha would have been different if the match was 1 min longer. I’m hoping he gets over the hump in March.

You'd have to go back and calculate it, easiest to do from wrestlestat.com. The NCAA starts issuing weekly updates in the beginning of February, but they only list top 10 in their updates.

Remember, though, if you do calculate Ashnault's previous years, it is -6, -5, -4, -3, for corresponding losses. With 6 losses and a 52% bonus rate, that will drive the MDW calculation down quickly.

And, I agree, Ashnault appears to be on a mission.

I saw this and is in line with the way AA has appeared this year. Mowing down competition and loved seeing him relentlessly go after Thorn. He has ranked competition 4 out of the next 5 matches with the headliner on Feb 3rd with Kolo. The RAC will be nuts for this one.

Interesting result yesterday in the Michigan- Ariz St match yesterday:

157: Christian Pagdilao (ASU) dec. Alec Pantaleo (Michigan), 6-2

Also heard on one of the podcasts this morning that they thought he was done trying to cut to 149, that he'll stay 157.

Just heard from someone w some Blair insights that they came North just as much for the Buxton Training as Blair. So it makes sense they would want to stay up here . Pope John is close to where they live, surprised that's not an option. Not sure why they left Blair

I'd like to know why they left Blair. Something had to happen to leave mid year during wrestling season. They both just wrestled and won Geary 3 days ago. BC also has Kayal and Cardenas at 113 and 195. While Buxton training may be good, LHP isn't too shabby.

Noob question - what is SKWC? Is this the equivalent of the football touchdown club?

Scarlet Knight Wrestling Club raises fund to support the RU wrestling program separate from the university. We pay resident coaches, send wrestlers to national and international events, pay volunteer staff, etc. it is a 501 C3 charitable organization with a board of trustees actively in helping advance the RU wrestling program. We set up the membership, pin pool and other fund raising activities to enhance the program. Hope that helps.

It’s rather confusing, but I will do my best to explain.

The SKWC is NOT the equivalent of the TD Club or Court Club. The TD & Court Clubs raise money and that money ultimately goes back to the University, in dollars, to support their respective sport. Although these Clubs are charitable organizations that are separate and apart from the University, they sort of act almost like “an arm or extension of the RU Fund”, so to speak. They raise money and it goes back to RU Athletics/Sport.

SKWC is quite unique as it is a charitable organization that supports the RU Wrestling program but it’s completely separate and apart from the University, period. The University can’t do what the SKWC does and vice versa, per NCAA rules. In fact, they need what each other uniquely brings to the table for the RU Wrestling program to be successful. The University fully funds and supports the RU Wrestling program (pays for coaches salaries, fully funds scholarships, team travel expenses, equipment, facilities, ticket sales & promotions, etc.). But, wrestling doesn’t stop when the season ends. Wrestlers continue to train & need other wrestlers to wrestle. It’s not like pick up basketball and you can get a quick team together. It’s a unique sport. That’s where wrestling clubs come in and it’s all done in accordance with NCAA rules. So, for example, the SKWC raises money (i.e., pin pool, membership, golf outing, etc.) and part of that money is used to pay for resident athletes to help train and wrestle with RU wrestlers. That’s why it’s so important to have a financially strong wrestling club...to get those resident athletes! That’s a priority for the recruits when analyzing & comparing schools. Who will I train with? SKWC also does many, many other things to enhance the RU Wrestling program like Bill mentioned above, such as paying for resident coaches, help send wrestlers to national & international tournaments for exposure & experience, mentoring program, and much more!

All the pieces for the RU Wrestling program to be successful are finally in place...great coaches, upcoming new facilities next to a renowned business school on a cool campus, full University funding & support, top attendance records, BIG conference, and a steadily growing wrestling club (SKWC) & regional training center (NJRTC). Although SKWC has done a fabulous job in fundraising, they need a lot more help to get to a “well financially-endowed wrestling club” to be able to get to its goal compared to other top programs.

If you’re not a SKWC member for $25, I encourage you to join. And, when you become a member or are a member already, please go to a meeting and get educated. Then, you will understand the big, BIG picture. It’s rather enlightening.

Go RU!
Diane
