Is it true, you guys turned down ND because they didn’t want to come to Piscataway? They wanted your home game in Metlife? Good job Rutgers if true. That’s how the big boys play.
Yes sometime back in the mid 200s or so. The last competent AD we had said to ND "play us in Piscataway or no deal."

I just wish we played ND when they were down for several years and Rutgers had several winning seasons. Everybody in the Old Big East beat ND Cuse, Pitts, Conn and even Navy beat them.

All mediocre teams.
Sure. All bowl teams, two played for their P5 conference championships, and NW was #22 in the final regular season poll. Combined regular season record of 30-21. All solid teams.

No matter how you look at it, ND played a good schedule this year and went undefeated. They deserved to be in. I dislike them more than any other team in college sports, but it is what it is.

The NY Times ran an article yesterday that basically sa

It is true. They wanted our home games at the Meadowlands with ND getting half the tickets. We said no and they booked a series with UConn.

None were elite. Good may be stretching. It. I’d call it mediocre.

Did anyone in the country not have a mediocre schedule/season?

ND - mediocre
Oklahoma - Big 12 plays no defense
Clemson - ACC is mediocre
Ohio State - best win was Michigan (who also played ND) who wasnt elite, blown out by Purdue
UCF - not P5
Georgia - 2 losses and didnt win conference

Should have just given Alabama the championship and skipped the playoffs?

ND went out of their way to play mostly ACC teams and PAC 10 teams which are the two weakest conference. They were lucky also to play teams like Texas and Florida State that were in transition with new coaches. Maryland beat Texas 2 years in a row.
You criticize Notre Dame’s schedule but no big 10 teams schedule anyone out of conference. Penn State has an play a top 10 team Out of conference since Lord knows when.

Yet ND played Michigan this fall. And OSU played Oklahoma and RU played Washington in 2017. I'm not going to check back each team in each year, but I'll say don't judge the league by Penn State.

Ohio St, Alabama, Georgia...

Pitt isn’t even ranked. That’s a signature win?

Signsture wins:
Ohio State - #7 Michigan, #22 Northwestern(neutral), @#12 PSU

ND - #7 Michigan, @ #22 Northwestern, #20 Syracuse (despite your forthcoming response that Syracuse sucks with a gimmick offense - they are still ranked #20)

So the difference is #12 PSU and #20 Syracuse.
Not that big a difference.

Signature losses
OSU - unranked Purdue by 29
ND - none (hypothetically to #2 Clemson in the ACC champipnship game?)

Not quite seeing how OSU isn't mediocre as well.

This is the reason we need an 8 game playoff: The big 5 conference champions, the best non big 5 top 25 team and two at large bids. The playoffs would be exciting to watch, and I’m sure it would include some upset excitement like the b-ball ncaa tournament! That would be fun to watch instead of the same old same old!

Well Pitt isn’t.
I'd probably put Wake lower than Pitt. Pitt had the 4th toughest schedule in the nation according to Sagarin, and they beat some pretty good teams. I'd call them more erratic than mediocre. They beat Syracuse and five other bowl teams. Just had an awfully tough schedule.

It seems easy enough.

But then everyone complains if Pitt/Northwestern pull an upset in the Championship game.
Well too bad - everyone knows the rules going in.
Too bad indeed, Pitt/Northwestern would have won the games necessary to advance, and whoever they would have upset in the conference championship game did not.
