Why is Seton Hall so good?

I get Powell is a difference maker but SHU otherwise lost most of last years starters.
Is coaching better?
We lose to Fordham and struggle at home to beat Columbia.
SHU goes on the road to knock off Maryland.
The Pirates most likely go to the NCAA tourney again this season and we talk about maybe
going to the NIT in the next two years.

When it came time to apply to colleges I didnt even apply to SHU because the campus reminded me of just a slightly larger high school, everything was old, ugly and it was a commuter school. It’s miraculous that they attract kids there because there aint much to sell

One thing I have noticed about them is they are not deep but their good players are consistent. You get pretty much the same game from them each time out. Not always obviously but by and large they play well every time out. Look at us as just the opposite. Look how we shot threes in the first four games now we can't hit a three at all. Also, our scoring leaders, Eugene being the possible exception, vary from game to game. Inconsistency is a killer.

Because guys like Powell and Cale learned from an established group of talent how to be studs. They didn’t have to be the man from day 1. Look back at Whitehead’s first year and how it took two years for that talent to click.

Ive never admitted this on here before today but I was an enormous seton hall fan until I enrolled at RU in 2010. It honestly really took me until like 2014 to fully convert. Few followed SHU bball as close as me from about ‘98 to 2014.

I honestly dont know how theyre attracting talent to South Orange. The campus is a disaster and it’s dead, it is truly a commuter school. I was a huge seton hall and wouldnt even apply to the school. Their facilities suck, they play at the rock, their fanbase is kinda weak, the school academically aint great, they have had ONE dude drafted since 2001 and that was a 2nd rounder in Whitehead so its not like theyre an nba breeding ground. It’s a good roster, but they get max potential because of someone like Powell. I like Geo Baker a lot, but replace Baker with Powell and we win by double digits today. Powell is a playmaker who is almost never stopped. Check out his game log. Right now we have guys who aren’t quite primary scorers.

They stayed the course with a good coach. Remember several years back people were making fun of their recruiting, they only recruit the Canary Islands? They kept the faith in the coach, he brought in a few assistants that started to help him get much better players.

Also, they seems to always have a decent, good, great point guard, from Shaheen, Andre Barrett, Copeland on down. Multiple guys that can shoot and score, better handle, and more mobile bigs for the most part.

We have to stay patient with coach Pikiell, hopefully he will get that program changing recruiting class and things will take off.

I knew this year was going to be a struggle, and some of our recent games have been hard to accept, but I am still hopeful that we have the right coach, just have to stay the course.

Willard is a better coach than most people...I'm not talking just Rutgers fans either...give him credit for. Having said that, out coaching Mark Turgeon isn't too difficult.
