Thought setting a new record by the MBB team might rate something on ESPN, etc. but have seen nothing other than BIG network.
Maybe if you set a record, but tying a record probably won’t.

I had it blasted to my phone via Yahoo sports. They took the opportunity to take several shots at Rutgers basketball. Really disappointing posting. They finished the article by saying we'd be next to set the record.

Rutgers (3-1) tied the NCAA Division I defensive record by limiting MAC West Division favorite Eastern Michigan (4-2) to just four first half points in a 63-36 victory Monday night at the RAC in the Hub City Classic. The Scarlet Knights restricted the Eagles to 27.8% (15-of-54) shooting to tie the school record for fewest points scored by a D-I opponent in the shot clock era.

There was a gamer on ESPN.com that mentioned tying the record for least amount of points allowed in a half. HOWEVER, what Rutgers actually did was tie a record for the least amount of points allowed in a half in the shot clock era.

Back in 1971 I watched Maryland vs. South Carolina and the halftime score was...wait for it...4-3. Maryland led at the half. The teams combined for just four field goal attempts in the first half. The second half of the game was a classic. Final score 31-30. Buzzer beater won it for Maryland.

Saw that game on TV. Can't remember his name, but he had wild, frizzy red hair, and he hit the winning shot. Can't believe I watched that snoozefest of a first half. Maryland just wanted to hold the ball and there was no shot clock back then.

Jim O'Brien. The story behind this game is pretty long. Readers Digest version: SC beat UMD in SC by almost 30. Lots of, shall we say, shenanigans. Several brawls almost broke out. Maryland promised to have something for SC when they came to College Park.

If Dook, Kentucky or UNC did it, it would have been on E$PNs front page and on spurts center for three days.

Worse yet, if we scored 4 points in a half it would have been on their front page for a few days, spurts center, and the screen crawler on all E$PN stations.

Nah, it wouldn’t have either way. It’s great we held them to 4 points, but Rutgers vs EMU on a Monday night isnt breaking news. 4 points in a half might get noticed on the day it happens, but definitely nothing afterwards, nor should it be. If duke held them
To 4 points, it wouldn’t be a major story the next day either.
