I just don't think these guys have any clue as to who are your best players. You can't always just look at how a guy looks in practice or the weight room as some guys are just gamers. As a coach you need to figure out who these guys are and play them regardless of how well they do in truck tire tug of war.

This , obviously just look at the quarterback choices and Goodwin over Martin, Hicks.
The stupid knighted concept. It’s been amateur hour as we get smashed with ash.

Wait... what’s the knighted concept?

This ought to be good.

Some crap from his first year that he took the theory from Ohio state. Maybe someone here remembers better then me but When a player was “knighted” it meant he was game ready .
I don’t think ash does it anymore.

Ash has yet to be “knighted”

It looked like Bateky allowed Wilkins to slide over to end. Turner also played his best ball of the year. Tverdov will be a guy playing a lot of football these next few years. But the defense did well this week. I think this is an overreaction.
Wilkins always plays end but you are right. The DL played well and when you are losing everything becomes an overreaction. Having said that I am shocked at that snap count. Wilkins looked gassed on a few plays. Also Futakasi played a nice game. He’s quick and got some pressure out there as did Lumor and Tverdov. No issues with the D last week. They showed up.

While I am at it I watched the replay and Blackshear ran well. Outside of excellent run by Pacheco the run game was okay not great. Blackshear came late in the first half and was warming up on the sidelines (funeral). He had 4 carries on his first drive and we moved down the field for a FG. After that he had 2 carries and Pacheco only had 1. The issue was we were not on the field enough. It also seemed we wanted to check down and not force throws this week which is why we saw a lot of Sneed in the first half. Sneed ran well, blocked very well and looks like a good receding back. He WAS on the field with Pacheco more than once.

Pacheco is a beast. He’s a faster version of Hilliman who played well this year. Hilliman was our best pass blocker by far. Back to Pacheco, he is a very hard runner with speed. I like him a lot and he probably will end the season with way more touches than Blackshear has last year. He probably needs to learn the playbook. But he should be our bell cow next year if not next week. The other two guys are versatile and should get their touches as well.

We need to convert downfield. We do that and this offense works a lot better. So far we have not and Safeties are creeping too close to the LOS.

Think he alternates or backs up Lumor. It’d be nice to have both on the field at the same time.
Impossible. Don't you know by now at Rutgers you place all your good players at one position so that only one can play at a time. For coaches to teach them a new position would take up too much of their time and energy.

Example: Agudosi who made an NFL practice squad could only play one position behind Carroo to learn a new position would have been silly to get more playing time.

So sadly true. not enough snaps, needs more practice time blah blah

We have seen guys succeed who were said not to be ready many times. Under the lights its different. Need to get all playmakers on the field no matter where. It's coaching--need to figure out how!

I also saw Tverdov dropping back into pass coverage in a zone a few times on Saturday, similar to how Kemoko Turay used to do that. Tverdov (and Lumor) are the only true pass rushers Rutgers has and to drop them back into coverage to try and defend a RB or receiver is idiotic.

Wilkins looks more like an interior lineman to me. Has he been forced to play defensive end because of depth issues?

Well at least they’re putting Artur and JLew on the field at the same time. :sunglasses:

Wilkins is the best nose guard on the team. He’s playing out of position. Just like Apllefield was our best right tackle but somehow our coaches felt Seymour was a future NFL right tackle. Now Applefield is a starter at right tackle for uva and doing good.

Of course it is!
Tev is a good player and would evolve into a top flight DE with any team in our league including the “biggest boys”
That said, my OP may be an over reaction, but I’m still convinced this staff will always screw up personnel, and not put our guys in the best position to succeed.
That includes scheme, philosophy... you name it.
I want all our best players on the field at one time.
That includes IP and RB.

Agree 100%. My 'Jack" thread says it all about how I feel.

The staff is not getting credit for turning a redshirt frosh SDE into a good Jack... midseason. Lumor is good as well. This is just looking at the negatives. All of our front seven rotate.

Good players don’t need to be turned into good players... watch out they don’t get worse, with this staff right now what you see now might be the best they’ll ever be here

Point is coach is clueless as a coach and can’t recruit. Trying to save 2 million next year is going to cost way more than that.

You’re not saving anything by keeping this bozo as coach.

I obviously don't see these guys every day in practice but to me the best DL lineup is a healthy Lumor allowing Tverdov on the other side. Wilkins moving inside next to Bateky. Unfortunately Wilkins and Bateky graduate. If you are a 3 star DL and want playing time as a freshman, come to RU.
Could use a JUCO or grad transfer at DL for next year.
