Wee Heavy is a great Scottish dark ale style. Don’t get to see them too often but a go-to choice when available.
Love quads and barrel aged beers, will have to check this out. Did you find it in stores or get it at the brewery?
Gotta get at brewery. It’s gone in bottles I think. May have a variant on tap but not sure.
You need to go to kane to get their beers. A few places carry cans of head high and will have some of their stuff on tap.
Best thing to do is follow them on instagram. They release cans of beers on saturdays and most are gone within a day, some last the weekend.
They made a post on facebook the other day saying they are expecting to open in December, but they seem to have a knack for underestimating how much longer the process will take. I work across the street and have been anxiously waiting for them to finally be up and running.
Will do. I met the owners in December to discuss some potential business partnership ideas for once they open up, which at the time they expected to be sometime in the spring. They were originally going to open up in downtown New Brunswick a couple years ago, and I guess at one point were already leasing a spot because their logo was on the window. When I met with them, they said they moved out of there because they were planning on expanding their space but they couldn't do so without the other tenants also expanding their part of the building, so they moved to their current location on Worlds Fair Drive, which is about 10 minutes up Easton Ave, just off Exit 10 on 287.
The new location is bigger, but from talking to them they seemed to still have their eyes set on returning to New Brunswick eventually. There isn't really any foot traffic or any neighboring places to eat where they are now; they are next to a physical therapist and a police supply store.
Brewery only. They still had a few left Sun so you may luck out if you go Thurs at opening.

Shared my bottle of 2557 tonight. Unreal how good it is.
Swung and missed on a couple oktoberfests, but my buddy grabbed a long trail maple harvest that I thought was delicious.
Went back for more, but it was gone.
How is long trails reputation in today's micro brew heavy world? The double baggers were a favorite back in the day.

Nowhere near the top. Sales are down. We always have the opportunity to bring in most of their beers that are near code and sell them at a deep discount. Just had their VT IPAs in cans and were selling them for $19.99. At that price the fly out of the store. Regular price they don't move at all.
Does anyone have a list of go-to German beers, either US micro based or from Germany?

Hofbrau and Paulaner are tops along most german styles. For Hefes buy local, freshness is key. And never drink a Hefe from bottle or can. Agressively pour into a glass, you want to create a tall head. It releases carbonation and intensifies the flavor. My favorite is Neshaminy Creek Brewing Highwater Hefe.
Plisners. Veltins from Germany is my fav. Victory's brand new Hip Czech is terrific. Don't let the label fool it says lager, which a pilsner is. In the US labeling something a pilsner isnt a positive, most equate pilsner to Miller Light.

My favorite seasonal release. As an added benefit this year, with the high ABV, you can have a bunch of these at the tailgate and not even know you were at a Rutgers game.

Comes from one of the worlds best brewery, the worlds oldest brewery. Wins award after award and just doesn't sell and it is fantastic. Can't figure it out.
Weihenstephaner is my favorite German brewer, in addition to Ayinger. Vitus is my favorite but not often in stock. Tastes like a Hefeweizen on steroids. If it’s on the shelf I’m buying it.
I’ve been sampling a number of pilsners recently and going to compare them at home in unofficial taste tests. Here’s the lineup:
Krombacher Pils
Warsteiner Premium Pils
Lagunitas PC Pils (my local standard)
Ayinger Bavarian Pils
Sierra Nevada Nooner Pils
Any thoughts on these? If ur interested I’ll follow up w results.
We sell a tons of Warsteiner cans. 19.99 and its good.
Anything Ayinger is great but damn they are pricey.
Krombacher is very solid. Not a fan of the Nooner. Maybe I always expect the best from SN.
Never had Lagunitas Pils although we sell alot of Little Sumpin and the IPA.
Two others I forgot to mention are Oscar Blues Yella Pils and Slyfox Pikeland Pils
Ever have Rothaus Pils Tannenzapfle? That is as good as them all. Hard to find but is in NJ and PA
Ayinger was clearly best among the small group I tasted. Warsteiner and Krombacher are decent budget German Pilsners. Sierra Nevada Nooner and Lagunitas PC Pils are way behind, even though more costly than Warsteiner and Krombacher.
Weihenstepahaner and Paulaner are worth a look and probably closer to Ayinger Bavarian Pils than the others.
My favorite US micro pilsner is currently Prima Pils from Victory.
I really enjoyed the Stone Xocoveza. All I hear are positive reviews about Kane. Wish it was more widely available
Saint B12 is easily my favorite accessible beer I can get. Just got the Xocoveza in. Haven't had yet but will.
Definitely make the effort to go to Kane and/or get a release. Their stouts, porters, BBA, and Belgians are second to none. We're lucky to have Kane in NJ.
Both are excellent. I just had a 2016 an 17.
So for those going to Homecoming what are you bringing? I have a 5L Hofbrau Oktoberfest mini keg that is being opened at a near by tailgate in the Scarlet lot that is hosting my dog Scarlet's 12 birthday. I have a mix of Paulaner Wiesn, Brooklyn Oktoberfest, Sierra Oktoberfest, NCBC Triple, Devils Backbone Gold Leaf, Einstock Dopplebock. Packed a few Devil's Backbone Striped Bass but in an unfortunate turn of events they seemed to have disappeared...one at a time tonight[cheers]
Was able to have the 2018 Sierra Nevada Oktoberfest on draft and I liked it much more than the 2017 version.
Had a Kane Sneakbox Pale Ale. It was a good beer, but I am kind of getting sick of all these hazy IPA especially when they are slapping other names on them. Very little about the beer said Pale Ale.

So, with Octoberfest, and your guys posts talking about good German beers, I'm trying to get into some German beers but not having much success.
Bought a 6 of Franziskaner Weissbier, which I sort of remembered as a beer I did not like much, and as it turns out I don't. A sweet banana type flavor/aroma going on there.
Then I got a Spaten Oktoberfest which was OK, but if you had told me it was a Heineken I would have completely fell for it.
