My guess is he plans to transfer after the season and wishes to keep his redshirt.

Lewis isn't even close to playing time at QB...my guess is that he cannot grasp the playbook or run an offense where he can't run over the defensive players. He is not a throwing QB in Division 1 college football

So?
What is the worst that will happen if he plays and is forced to throw the ball 30 times a game?
Interceptions? Pick 6s? Incompletions?
Will we score only 14 points at most and possibly get blown out?

Already happening.
At least let him get the experience.

Lewis was a top recruit. Didn’t he have many other offers ? Did he suddenly get worse by coming to Rutgers?

You clearly dont understand the pedigree of Rutgers football.
QBs come in as finished products or else. No time to let a young QB work through mistakes and develop over the years.
Can't risk messing up our streak of 8, 9, 10 win seasons and numerous high level bowl wins.
If we let a young QB develop on the field we might lose some games. The horror I say!! R

Rutgers does not risk winning only 2-3 games in the name of "Future Development".

Goodness help us if we had a quarterback on our roster who could scramble from our terrible OL, throw on the run and make amazing passes, and can run in huge strides and be physical.

The real scandal of this pathetic administration has been wasted years of qb recruiting. Community College bench warmer Tylin Oden and HUDL hero Jonathan Lewis were brought in by these bums and have contributed nothing to the program. Meanwhile Dare, Flacco, Russo etc were all shown the door .

Gio is a true gentlemen for staying here. He was/is best option at QB. He had to deal with Ash favoring his guys, Zach Allen, Kyle Bolin, and Oden. Ash just has bias against Floods players and the cultural bias has grown

And Lewis brought in by Mehringer to run the Dance Shuffle Chuck Duck spread offense. He is trying his best, both just not a good fit for current scheme

We need to find a kid from a back woods town in No Where USA, that doesn't have much knowledge of our recent history. A kid with a big country arm, fast legs and under recruited. Yup, I know, mission impossible, lol.

Cole Snyder, QB, from NW NY state was at the game yesterday. Kid has a heck of an arm. Committed here as well.

didn't see a single throw that makes me think he'd be a legit d1 qb in that video although the roll out and squaring up, ball high and throw to the shoulder side was very nice

now he may have developed nicely but he's behind Gio, hasn't seen any quality time in a real game and I've seen him in 2 closed practices and he's not looked anywhere near better (imho) than the guys in front. I'm game however, how much worse can it be I mean, we are losing so let's give it a shot at this point

apparently Ash hates our traditions as well. Getting rid of the annual awards was fking petty!

He can still play up to 4 games this season and still get a redshirt. It’s the new rule.
I think the rule state that up to game four you can redshirt. So they will have to redshirt him their week if I am interpreting it correctly.

Seems like none of the QBs on the RU roster are ready to play ( except Gio) ,so giving Lewis a shot might not make things worse.
Gio is ready to play, has leadership qualities, but just doesn't have the talent to lead RU to victory. Seems like most of this team lacks talent or has flaws they need to overcome before their talent can help RU win.
Ash has changed the offense so often, it seems like ( every year ) no one on the roster fits what his new OC tries to run and the D players are headed by a overmatched DC that can't adjust to the players he has to use.

Yeah, the offense doesn’t fit his skill set, will be interesting to see what happens.

that's an excuse, our offense absolutely has plays for Lewis skillset in it.
He doesn't throw particularly well and contrary to pop belief, he's not that shifty on his feet. Lewis should transfer, better for him

That's why Sitkowski shouldn't play another snap this year. He's not going to magically figure it out by season's end. He's not ready. Will Ash burn Sitkowski's redshirt this year?
