Announced 40k.... well publicized that RU overestimates Home Attendance by 40%.
Actual is 26k then.

Did you take a look at the Upper Decks ? 8000 open seats. That’s drops the max. Down to 42,000. You think there were only 6,000 empty seats in the lower Bowl ?

The over-under IMHO is 34k. (NO WAY it was under 30K ) . 60% of 40k is 24k... and that is total BS...sorry #1 fan
Most sporting events have a 20-25% no show rate. I’m not saying Rutgers doesn’t “fudge” the number some but they’re not fudging it by 40%.

Re-read my post. You’re talking about scanned tickets. Im talking about tickets sold. If I buy tickets and don’t show up, I’m not part of that 61.7% scanned number but my tickets are still going to be in the announced attendance report.
If the scanned percentage number is 38.3% lower than the announced attendance, and the typical no-show percentage per game is 20-25%, then Rutgers is fudging the number by about 15%, not 40%.
No. Its scanned vs tickets out(annouced attendance), period. Tickets sold vs tickets given away is irrelevant. They are fudging the number by 38.3% go back to the articles posted on page 1 of this page.
I’m not talking about sold tickets vs given away tickets. I’m saying that if someone buys tickets to a game, it’s not “fudging the number” by counting them in the attendance number. The ticket is sold.
If 25,000 people are in the stadium, 34,000 tickets were actually sold/bought, and Rutgers announces 40,000 in their attendance number, then they fudged the number by 6,000 not by 15,000.
I know what you are saying. But attendance, people actually in the stadium, is how many tickets are scanned.
I have 2 tickets but worked today. I did not attend the game. Yes Rutgers got my money but you can not count that as me being in the building. Its what this thread and those articles are pointing out.
All sports do this. Turnstiles numbers used to be used but now include unused and freebies (whether used or not) to prop up figures. The NFL used to report scanned and no shows as seperate figures.
Navy is the only college that uses the true attendance figure. Tickets scanned and people in the building.
There is definitely fewer people attending than the announced figure (especially games like today), but something is wrong with those numbers you posted. Keith Sargeant posted the game by game breakdown that adds up to that 171,000 number, and it has the Washington game as 28,000.
That's f**king crazy. There was absolutely more than 40,000 in the stands for Washington. The place was rocking in the first half.

I cant give away tickets. No one needed them. Everyone got extra free tickets from Rutgers. Now my parking pass is a whole different story. That is always in demand.
I know a ton of Rutgers fans. They know the time of the game too. But they all have season tickets.
The game by game numbers he posted added up to the 171,000 figure, so he must have gotten them from the people behind the WSJ story.
Either way something is off, because while the underlying point is correct and Rutgers has much fewer people attending than they announce for many games, no way they only had 28,000 attend for Washington and 33,000 for OSU.
Yes. Something is off. You either announce tickets sold or tickets scanned, or both. None of the crap that is going on in all sports.
