Good example that you can’t project greatness or a comeback on one or two tournaments. Tiger made the cut but settled back behind some of the more consistent Top 30 players. He’s come back from a lot, but projecting his last month of play into being a Top 5 golfer is just premature right now.
Also a good example of why you don't annouce Captains picks a second before you have to. The big question is can Tiger play 5 rounds in 3 days. Or even 2 rounds in a single day.

Yeah, but if Tiger says he's healthy, there's no way he's not a captain's choice. Same for Phil.
Tiger, Phil and now Dechambeau are 3 of the 4....No way Furyk leaves Phil or Tiger off, based on experience, PR nightmare and ratings. Now how many matches he gives them might be another story.
I disagree. Both Phil and Tiger need to show they are in form. I think unless both of them get seriously hot Furyk only needs to take 1 of them and Tiger already played his hand by saying he is going as a player or coach.
Phil has the most experience. What concerns me about both is playing 2 rounds in a single day. Experience in the Ryder Cup is great, age isnt.
What are you taking about? Tiger is a lock. It’s not even a question. He had a good week this week. Just didn’t get hot with the putter.
Tiger will get picked, but it's based on past rep. He wasn't competitive last weekend. T-40, 14 back is not getting it done in any way. Phil at T-15 is playing his way in.
DeChambeau has played his way onto the team. So has Tony Finau
If Tiger gets picked, I would only play him in singles. He’s really not a good “team” player. Phil is the better “team” player. I agree that Bryson and Finau should be on the team. Furyk has some interesting decision since Tiger is already an assistant.
Before i went to Paramus CC, I heard Hank Haney on Sirius radio say that Tiger would never be a great driver. But with my own eyes I saw him outdrive his two other guys on Friday , Fleetwood and the Big M, by 20 yards on a couple of holes. BS. His shortgame let him down, but that is fixable.

Based on last week, Billy Horschel and Ryan Palmer should be picked. Phil has been outplayed by Tiger and it’s not even close.

Where did Phil finish in the last two majors vs Tiger? Oh yeah, Tiger did better at the Masters and Phil should have been DQ at the US Open.
Where did Tiger finish last week week vs Phil? 25+ spots behind. How can you pick a guy that hasn't won in years, plus a question mark about playing more than one round a day?
Like I said, if you base it on last week, there are other guys ahead of Phil. That is a stupid argument. Phil had a great start. But on big stages, he was not even close to Tiger.
Btw, Tiger had a bad outing before the PGA but he stepped up when it mattered most. That’s what you want for the Ryder Cup.
Tiger Woods record in the Ryder Cup during his period as the most dominant time of his career is just 13-17-3. Phil is 18-20-7. Tiger in all off his best rounds this year can't drive the ball and can't make putts. Plus he hasn't played under pressure in the Ryder Cup since 2012

You realize, Tiger, for all the great years and accomplishments, has a mediocre 13-17-3 lifetime Ryder Cup record....you know, the BIG stage.
Said the same thing above. And it was during a time where he was the best player in the world. And hasnt faced this pressure in 6 years.
The two biggest reasons to leave him off the team is he can't drive the ball in the fairway. You can't expect his partner to make recovery shots like he does and he cant putt

And you can't judge a golfer on a few weeks either, if we did, Adam Scott would be ranked as a top 5 golfer.
He had one good round this year. And lost because he couldn't drive the ball in the fairway and couldn't putt under pressure Phil has won a tournament and has more experience and a better record. The last Ryder Cup spot will not come down between Tiger and Phil. Phil is way ahead
Did you miss last week. And as I have said above in team matches you can't expect Tigers playing partner to hit recovery shots like Tiger did. And do you trust Tiger hitting a 5 foot putt to tie yet?
And BTW they aren't playing in the US this year. There will be no Tiger roars in Paris.
It seems to me with something like the Ryder Cup the last couple spots go to the guys who've played better recently.

I do too. Except this isnt about who was at one time the greatest golfer in the world. Its about winning a team event and who is the best right now. Add in the fact he wasnt that good when he was at the top if his game. Tiger, which makes him one of the best players ever, is all about him. His dominating game doesnt translate to a team game

Agree, except that the golf course (Le Golf National outside of Paris) is known to be a very tight driving course and favors the home side.
Furyk will be second guessed if he leaves Tiger and/or Phil off the team. That’s why I think he takes both along with Dechambeau and Finau.

Agree. Furyk is in a no-win spot, so it's easier to pick Tiger than not and he can minimize his impact and risk with the layout. Being the guy at the end of the bench doesn't seem fitting for Tiger, but the fact that he's even in the discussion is amazing given where he was two months ago.
Phil has a reasonably good record in Ryder Cups, so that experience counts, and DeChambeau is a lock as well. I like Finau a lot, but Furyk can go in a lot of directions with that last spot.
Look at Phil’s last 10 events vs Tiger’s. I stand by my statement. Not taking anything away from Phil because he had a great start to the season.
The first playoff tournament (NT) is a joke. Guys skip this event because it’s meaningless. The tour is even considering to eliminate it for next year.
Not considering, done deal. There are only 3 rounds next year. Northern Trust is at Liberty National next year then moves to Boston (this week's tourney) in 2020.
The thing is when you look at 12-20 in Ryder Cup points, who but Tiger would you pick? There's a number of steady but not spectacular golfers. The kind of guy who cashes that Top 20 check every week. Would you feel confident picking? Kuchar? Schauffele? Kisner? Na? Reach down and pick Zach Johnson?
I think you have to look at Ryder Cup record as well. This is a very different format. At the end of the day, it’s about points and winning.
