I didn't read through this entire thread, but I've watch Tiger play the last couple of days and, if nothing else, he's demonstrated that he can once again play the game with the best of them.

Big balls Brooks. All he does is win majors. If he made half those birdie putts he’s at -20. What a performance!
Koepka is a machine. Saw him at Shinnecock for four days and his length was insane. Has great distance control on his irons. Give Tiger credit but once again youth is served.
Koepka is the best in the world right now, but Tiger is still the Biggest Star, and it’s not even close.
Yeah well he still didn’t win the event, bottom line, but I’m sure we’ll have ANOTHER thread about him next year lol.

But so many younger golfers on Tour that have the star power. Media focusing almost exclusively on Tiger doesn’t help.
Are you guys nuts? This was great with a Tiger charge. Best thing for golf. He’s back with a vengeance!
It is great for golf, and it also shows what an uphill fight Tiger has to win another major. I think these young guys get amped up a bit more knowing they are beating a Tiger that’s finally back to playing top 30 golf.
The real story here though is Koepka who had a torn ligament in his wrist earlier this year, missed three months of practice including the Masters. Won by going wire to wire missing so many makeable putts.
To the haters, and you know who you are: Has any of us ever achieved the level of excellence in our chosen professions, as Tiger is achieving right now in his? Never mind in his prime - I'm talking right now.
Honestly that is the only reason I root so hard against Woods. I am so sick and tired of the headlines being “Tiger lurking at such and such event” when he is 7shots off the lead or whatever. I admire his tenacity and grit to fight his way back to good form but I can’t take the media treatment so just want him out of conrtention already so we can focus on the current generation of golfers.
Agree. Nantz’s call on 18 for Tiger was so much more emotional than his Koepka call for the win. It was sickening, and I like Nantz.
Golf needs to do a better job hyping the youngsters. I get it’s an old-man, traditionalist sport (no disrespect intended) but time for s new generation to make traditions.
The secret to that is to just not pay attention.
I watch on weekends. That's it. Pretty much the same as all other sports - I don't read sports journalism, I don't listen to fat-headed morons bloviating on the radio. I just watch the events. It really does heighten the experience.
Like I said, it's nice to see Tiger playing quality ball at this point in his career. The haters are just ignorant juveniles who measure their lives by the quantity of their distaste for any success that isn't theirs.
Yet at 42, he still contends in majors, and that’s in a comeback season where he got better as the season progressed. There is still the FedEx cup coming up (starts in Ridgewood in 2 weeks) then Ryder Cup. He’ll get better still, and he’ll be even better next season.

He’s thisclose to winning majors again. Coming in 2nd today after being off injured for 2-3 years proved it. He’s a Ratings Bonanza, and the Tour Loves him as witnessed by almost all of them moving to Jupiter. He’s healthy again, starting to play more, and getting the mojo back. He’ll win again soon. He’s back.
If he was back, he would be winning. But this is likely his best.

Just stop!!!!! It’s over. You lose. You said he would never compete again. He just finished second at one of the least likely majors for him to win. He is still learning his new swing. Give him a little more time and it will be on. You said putting was the first thing to go. His putter was Outstanding. All that is left is the driver. He almost won today and he couldn’t drive the ball at all. He so close to being back it’s not even funny. You keep pushing the bar back to what he needs to do. Remember your claim was he couldn’t play with the top guys ever again when in fact he might be the most consistent player in the world right now save Koepka. But like in his prime certain guys will get hot and challenge him then they will fade. He remains. His comeback is going exactly how I said it would as long as he stays healthy. A healthy Tiger is a top 5 player and he will win another major and several other tournaments.
This. The media is going to over-cover Woods because that’s what the casual fan wants to see. I watch to enjoy the play and the Koepka/Scott pairing was the best matching shot for shot. Thought JT would win it today but the bogies on the back nine killed him.
Yep, the Tiger who is still the Biggest Star on The Tour. And the guys in 2nd are far, far behind. Koepka and Scott played in relative silence, as the Huge crowds were following Tiger and the no name paired with him. Even the TV announcers sounded disappointed when Koepka wasn’t slipping. Koepka is this years Dustin Johnson, big hitting young guy who will be surpassed just like DJ, Spieth and McElroy. But there’s only 1 Tiger. Enjoy the next 8 years or so.

It NOBODY ever said he would be vinatage Tiger ever again. It’s dumb to even think that he could be. The basic premise of this thread is the people on Tigers side said that if he was healthy he would still be one of the best in the world. Top 5 to 10ish and he could win another major. Haters said no chance he could ever compete again. The haters including Cali have been proven wrong. This thread can be locked.
8 years? I think you need to pump the brakes a bit. He turns 43 this year and only two guys have one a major after the age of 45. He’s also had five major back and knee surgeries. He’s playing great, he’s brought more attention back to the game, but enjoy it now. Numbers and his body are working against him.
Next season should be a blast with him back. I think it will give these young guns added motivation. All good.
All you had to see was the crowd reaction when he crossed the bridge to the scorer's trailer to understand what he still means to the game.

I've changed my position after today. Hard to see a healthy Tiger not pulling one of these out over the next 3-5 years.
It will be interesting to see if he makes the Ryder Cup team.
Going into today he's 20th in points. I believe the Top 8 are automatics so he'd be a Capt's Choice
I think it’s automatic that Furyk takes Woods and Michelson with two of the four spots. Then Finau, Kisner, Schaffle, and Kuchar get consideration.
Tiger has to be in, Only thing about Phil is he's had a poor 2nd half. Kooch if Furyk wants more experience. Finau has played well enough. Might seem crazy but I would go to 15-19 and look at Kevin Na.
