Never claimed or said he was a troll. Was more referring to the ones that have been lurking around since the board split.

My mistake. Figured since his comment was kind of rough, he could be mistaken as a troll.
Dave, from now on , your on your own, loll

See you at the first tailgate, Matt.

Last time someone posted a thread like this all the haters came out then Ash landed 2 of the top 5 recruits in this class and a good OL (Hanson) and oddly enough everyone suddenly shut up.

It's funny how he was considered a good recruiter at Wisconsin & Arkansas but RU fans create a narrative about his charisma because he's not meeting their delusional expectations of 4* & 5* in state kids committing in droves.

We've not been a good program the last few years. Things improved a little bit last year. Other than being "The Birthplace" what other history or cache does RU have that automatically makes recruits want to go there?

The job is not as easy as you think it is. If you don't know how fickle NJ recruits are now-a-days you've been in hiding. They want to say they played for a winner not help build one like Teel, Rice, the McCourtys and others did.

Ash's recruits are only now starting to hit the two-deep. The play of Clark, Fogg, Melton, Sitkowski and others will dictate our ability to recruit. They make positive progress this season & it possibly results in a surprise or two this cycle and better interest from the 2020 cycle.

There are still plenty of good recruits out there heavily considering RU. Ash will get some of them but the sky is not falling.

Our players somehow have to turn into some of the best units in the country to compete at the level we play at.
Good players isn’t enough in this league, you need nationaly recognized players to compete.
Our strong teams of the last 20 years were loaded with some of the best players at their position in the country, along with NFL draft picks.
That simply has to happen or we can’t win.

Way to stay classy Supertroll.

Zap - you are right but we gotta walk before we run. Look at the MSU model. They did it first with player development and coaching. Now they are recruiting very well. And even they have a history that is much more favorable than what we have had. We are still infants in the this space.

I'm hearing he has about as much charisma as a piece of lint. If true, that could explain much of the problem. Can't leave it all up to the assistants.
Have you or who your hearing from ever met him. I don’t know but if you have you or they would not be thinking or saying what comes out. As many posters and recruits have said CA is not as dull n boring as some make him out to be. Many reasons recruits don’t commit to a school. Haven’t heard one recruit say I didn’t come to RU because of coach CA’s charisma or personality. But I have heard say they came because of it. And yes I have been in his company at non football functions where his charisma and personality came thru

He’s never been charismatic, that’s not the type of coach we hired. We hired a Dantonio, not a Franklin. One is suited for recruiting better than the other, doesn’t mean we can’t get MSU type results, it just takes a lot longer. Then the wins come and the recruits follow

He didn't need charisma at OSU. Dude could just point at The Shoe, or say do you want to be part of "THE" OSU and kids will fight for a scholarship offer.

When he comes here and doesn't have that prestige to offer, and outside of early playing time there isn't much he can hardsell kids on that they really want.

It's becoming more and more clear he isn't a charismatic wonder because he isn't getting it done in NJ in selling his "vision" to these high school kids.

I think the recruits have been turned off by the results more than anything. 79-0 will do that.

My God! Sometimes I just can’t believe this board!

Do you really think a recruit is going to say “I didn’t go to school x because of the coach’s charisma”??
Talking to some star struck fans at non football functions is a lot different when it’s showtime in a recruit’s living room.

Baylor had the 30th best recruiting class in the country last year and went 1-11. I don’t think winning is the end all be all when you have a charismatic coach who can sell vision
Baylor's recent football history blows us out of the water. They were actually really good in these recruits' lifetime. We've been mediocre to bad. 79-0 was icing on the cake.

Bad comparison. In the 4 years prior to the 2017 season, Baylor was 39-13 with two first place finishes in the Big 12. Not at all analogous to RU's situation.

Vision? Does Chris Ash have a vision? :)

WHAT PROBLEM?

Not a problem what I see. It's tought to recruit under the circumstances, yet he has gotten classes better than the last guy. The last guy couldn't recruit given what GS left him. So edge to Ash. Improve and build the foundation. Things have improved..just not as fast as many would have liked.

Do you really think someone who #1 has never met Ash and #2 has never been in the same room with him at a recruits home has any knowledge of his Charisma. By the way I am far from Star struck as you imply. During my professional career I have worked with pro athletes from the NY Giants, Pro coaches from the Ny Giants. I did a financial seminar for the NY Rangers. I have worked with TV and radio personalities so I think I may be a better judge on CA’s character and charisma then those who have never been in his company. Not telling you my background to impress you or any one else. Telling you because I feel I am a better judge than some who keep blaming his personality, charisma or whatever else you want to call it

Forgot to mention in my other response. At these other function there are parents of future recruits, big Doners, influential alumni etc. if he comes across as charming and with a good personality at the functions what would indicate he wouldn’t have same demeanor in a recruits home

Nice to finally hear from a fan who understands our situation . It’s exhausting with the unrealists attacking our staff day in and day out . Do these people just troll ? Just haters ? Just ignorant to our past and current situation? One poster mentions Ash has no charisma and suddenly everyone is saying it.

Everyone is busting the OP’s chops, I get it.
We were a solid college football program from that 1st game all the way to the mid 70s.

All this 100 years of ineptness is bull shite.

But, at no time in our history were we recognized for our prowess like we were in 2006...Alex Kroll’s team and Nate Toran’s Undefeated teams don’t even come close.

It happened under a coach every fan base and opposition hated, GS was universally detested for targeting QB’s, flying helicopters, moving in an entourage of state police and chopping.

This program doesn’t sell itself and never will, the sale has to come from a place of uniqueness.

I’m hoping Ash finds that somehow, in the mean time I root for our players and coaches who are all damn good football players and people

Unfortunately we play against elite players.

It’s been proven that Ash is not a game changer nor a dynamic recruiter. He’s fine. He seems like a good man and his recruiting has been ok outside the state of NJ. If he can develop talent we should be able to get to .500 in a couple of years and will hopefully get some top recruits in 3-4 years. Again, he’s fine...

LOL, Baylor also has a recent history of great success and a super fancy football stadium to sell.

But if the Temple guy keeps having seasons like that their classes will drop like a rock.
