He knows way more about the NBA than he does about politics.
I don't watch the regular season at all. To me, it's just too long, and the intensity isn't there most of the time. However, hard to argue with actual statistics about it's popularity.
At this point, with four teams left, and each team having a possible route to the championship, it's a pretty good watch. Lots of very interesting story lines. The old Nets "the future is now" historically idiot trade of a few years ago is paying off for Boston. On the other hand, their "the future is now" trade of last year looks somewhat less than brilliant as well as Rozier seems to be almost as good (maybe as good) as Irving, and is younger and not injury prone.

Cleveland didn't sleep walk through the season. They dealt with a lot of adversity including revamping their roster during the season. Fortunately the season was long enough for them to build up some chemistry.
And, while I personally don't care about parity, I do understand why some people find it appealing.
The NBA season is a grind they are going to be ups and downs for teams there's going to be injuries etc.
The really good teams fight through all of that and get to play for championships.

At the beginning of the season I didn't expect Cleveland to make it to the conference finals this year. But they improved their team with a trade.

It's a very good bet that the Game 1 roster that included Derrick Rose, D. Wade, Isaiah Thomas and others does not make it this far. It was not working and the wholesale mid season roster changes is what got "Bron" this far.

Yes, I thought this would be the year that the Cavs didn't make the conference finals.
As of February 7th they were floundering pretty badly too and several friends told me that I might be right about Cleveland. Then they orchestrated several trades, improving the team defensively and it worked out for them.
Also, I have lived a drug free life.

Saw a couple of games in that series. Have loved Oladipo for a long time. Dematha kid, really happy for him.

Just like people had Cleveland in the conference finals after they traded Kyrie Irving (their second best player and arguably one of the 10 best players in the NBA) for a bunch of guys who aren't on the team anymore.

Lebron got Cavs to the finals once and conference finals one other time with much less talent(his first tour in Cleveland), and it can be argued he's even better now....I had them in the finals but after last night it's not looking good. Boston was on fire.

Play more possessions, and both you and your opponent score points. GS has consistently been one of the top teams in points allowed per possession, though they slipped down to 9th this year after being in the Top 4 the last four seasons.
GS Defensive Rating rank over the last five regular seasons:
2017-18: 9th
2016-17: 2nd
2015-16: 4th
2014-15: 1st
2013-14: 3rd
So far in the playoffs, they're also allowing fewer points per possession than any other team.

I think you can look at, for example,, Points per possession given up on defense. If you have a fast paced offense, the opposing team will get more possessions and score more. So, no, Points given up per game is NOT the only thing you look at for good defenses in the NBA. I don't know how Golden State graded out, but, your assumption is not always true.

Nice try. GS scored only one more point per game than Houston, but gave up almost 4 more points. As per the facts, Houston is better on defense than GS and Houston blows on that side of the ball.
I'm just giving you another way to look at team defense instead of only total points allowed. Here's another example.
If Team X plays a slow down, use a lot of the shot clock type of offense it means they limit the number of possessions by their opponent. Therefore, the other team probably scores less. They may give up less points, but, that is more about not giving their opponents a lot of possessions.
Some of this actually applies to Rutgers Basketball, they slow it down on offense so the opposition has less scoring opportunities and their Points given up per game looks very good.

I think that some people have watched so much RU basketball over the last 30 years that they have no idea what it looks like when teams play the game at a high level. The biggest adjustment for players coming into the NBA is defense. Lottery picks usually become busts because of the inability to play NBA defense or score against it.
I grew up as a die hard NJ Nets fan...by far I was most invested. It was great and amazing when they reached the NBA finals in 2002 and 2003 (should have beat Spurs). I really got back in the NBA when I moved to the Bay Area in 2011 and Warriors became good under Mark Jackson, and then took off under Kerr. They are fun to watch.

NBA playoffs are compelling. Skill level is good.
Personally you can have MLB. Get paid too much and way too slow and boring, and too many unwritten rules.

Not to mention that when guys make a bunch of shots they think it must be because the defense is bad. Actually it can be that these guys are just unbelievable shooters.
Or it's a really fast pace. Going to be a higher scoring game with guys making more shots if there are 120 possessions instead of 95 possessions, even if the game with 120 possessions saw a lower shooting percentage.
