Flaccos performance in that game is not even close to indicative of what it will be like in real game action. Even though he was wearing the red jersey, the defense isnt going to light up their own QB. Everytime he took off running he got big plays and theres a reason -- the defense were friendlies. In a game, when the play breaks down and he takes off, its his hide they are coming for

Still does not mean he won’t play well when we have “live” ball. He absolutely showed more quickness then Gio ever has

And every pass and scramble every other QB made yesterday were made knowing none of those friendlies would even pretend to tackle them.

So there’s that.

The primary focus of the offensive staff has to be developing Sitkowski. If Gio sees any time as starter, we are in trouble.

I don't know if I would go so far as saying no one else can play, but from what I saw, this is my current #1 and #2.

Sitkowski adds a lot to the offense that the others don't. I will take the tradeoff vs someone like Gio who might make less mistakes but isn't as much of a threat to stretch the field. Get the safeties worrying about passes more than 15 yards downfield and see what that will do to help the running game too.

Flacco can run the offense.
The run game is downhill with him, he can keep the ball and find guys 10 and 15 yards down field, he’s also aware of the safety valve dump off that will be effective when he draws defenders to him.

Sitkowski easily came out on top yesterday despite making some throws he shouldn't have. Something Ash and McNutly have to consider when deciding on who to start is if it is going to be Arthur then he will have exactly 1 game against Texas State before he gets thrown into the fire (heck the frying pan) at an away game at Ohio State. Starting that game could either help his development or really hurt his confidence. If things are going badly for him not sure they want to pull him from the game and put in Gio already during the 2nd game of the year.

The way I see it is that Sit is the one guy that can keep a defense honest. Even if he does make some Freshman mistakes. Just the threat of a Sit to Bo bomb will keep some teams from loading the box. And as someone else stated, Sit can also run the ball. Sometimes we see a big huge "white" QB like him and just assume he is a slow pocket passer who can't run. That isn't the case here. The question will be this though...If he is our starter, will he be given the green light to tuck and run if a play breaks down or will he be instructed to either throw it away or go down?

Artur, not Arthur. You make good points. That said, if you read Artur's self-assessment yesterday, he is mature beyond his years. IMO, he will take a bad game as an opportunity to learn.

Art is the starter . This is not even a question. Let him Air it out vs Texas state to get confidence and also a chance to win a game and learn from.mistakes.....the exact opposite of what we did with Lewis last year vs Morgan state when he never threw the ball.....Giovanni and Flacco can battle it out for 2.......Lewis just does.not have The accuracy or touch...

Lewis should go the TE route likeJefferson,if he can play it. But I expect he will transfer if not the # 1 or 2.

But is making a true freshman the starting QB from game one the best way to develop him?

As trite as this sounds, I sincerely hope Ash and McNulty REALLY play the guy who gives them the best chance to play. I don't think this has been happening in the last few seasons with some players just being out there doing the same things that lead to the last loss. Sitkowski, from what I have read, really looked good. I fear, however, that his status on the ladder to the starting job will keep him off the field. If he continues to show this ability to get the ball deep down field, he needs to be starting over what we already know from the others.

That depends on his maturity. The staff has to make that determination. Some people need to ease into and grow into a job and others learn and develop best when thrown into the deep end. There is no right or wrong way. The coaches have to make that decision based on their impressions of Sitkowski's maturity. I trust they will make the correct call.

Art is the guy. Really not much more needs to be said. Big credit to him because I expected him to be super unpolished after the IMG stint. Question now is what happens with Lewis. Wonder if the staff looks to redshirt him.

The way it looks to me is:

Sit
Lewis
Flac
Chat (redshirt)
Gio (time to move on or change positions)

Loved what Sitkowski shows. If he performs at Nova level min the offense will be better than the last two years. Lewis has physical tools and still only a true soph. Need another year before determining if a bust. Kid had major offers and stayed home to lead program out of the dark. In accurate but has a strong arm with size and can run for a first down. Flacco showed something yesterday but still can not compare game situation to yesterday scrimmage. He will get lite up on some of those runs and I question his ability to throw deep. In order for RU offense to take next step it needs a qb that can keep defense honest and respect a deep ball other wise it will be eight in the box over and over again which brings me to Gio. Kid is a battler and respect all he has given to the program but if he starts that is not a good sign of things to come. Would love to see him as a tightend, holding for field goals or trick play at WR. He is simply not a BIG level qb.

Art - could easily win us games as well as lose them. Highest ceiling
Flacco - I would need to see much more of him but we don’t get to. Liked what I saw.
Gio - has won us some games. Not sure he has a high ceiling for completion percentage or downfield throws.
Lewis - doesn’t look to be ready in passing game. He’s still young.

Excellent question and I also have the same question. Would love to hear from the QB experts. If I had to venture to guess, I would either say his feet movement provides him with additional mobility in the pocket or it's a timing mechanism for his release. However, I have no clue and would love to hear from posters who spend time reviewing the QB play.

I don't know why some of you guys are saying Lewis situationally because he's not that fast. Flacco is faster than him. Lewis is lumbering and didn't have one good run last year against anyone not named Morgan State.

Thats a lot to conclude from watching him run 12 plays in a spring game.

Let Sitkowski throw against Ohio State screw it. Richard Lagow threw for 400 yards on them last year. It's time to stop being scared and actually fight back. If they beat us so what. But lets put some points on the board and not get embarrassed.

It appears more like a timing mechanism for Sitkowski. The one issue I see is Art wasn't able to step into the throw which could explain why the ball came up short for the INT. If you ever watch Peyton Manning, he did the same thing when he dropped back for a pass. Peyton would do a double time step while waiting for the play to develop
