Don't know why the article's author dragged Rutgers name into this. NYC is not affected since Comcast is not a provider. He's probably reading too much Pat Forde/Dan Wetzel tweets.

If you live in a big10 state, you will still get the channel. NY, Virginia, DC. They will lose it, as will other states without a B1G team. Nebraska and one other big state never had Comcast, so they never had it to begin with.

Iowa is the other state. NYC is also not affected.

This is for Comcast customers only. Comcast generally sucks, and Big Ten fans will probably subscribe to one of many alternatives that deliver far superior content and service than Comcast. Dumb move by them, but not surprising.

From a Rutgers and Big Ten marketing perspective, losing BTN distribution in the small area of NY State that is served by Comcast is not that big of a deal. From a Big Ten fan perspective, if you live in that area (or another non-BigTen state where Comcast is dropping distribution), then it sucks because you can't watch your favorite B1G team on BTN.

My local cable in northeast PA does not have BTN despite being in PSU country. :angry:

Direct TV has BTN, no matter where you live.

Also you can just drop cable, and just keep high speed internet and go 100% streaming. PlayStation Vue also offers BTN in that case. This is true no matter where you live.

It’s settled....even though I live In NJ, I will go to YouTube cable or DirectTVNow just on principle alone.

Just to be clear guys - content disputes, particularly with sports programming, is more than common place in the industry. Yours truly may have a biased view clearly (Comcast employee), but if you think you are guaranteed some kind of life long access to B10 network on other distributors you are eventually in for disappointment. By all means switch to someone that gives you what you want, just don’t think this is a Comcast unique thing, or that BIG distribution is guaranteed anywhere.

Oh if you have a legitimate Comcast issue that you need help on feel free to private message me. I’m not a tech, but rather a HQ marketing person, but I’m sure I can help.

For anybody who has Direct TV, how do their rates compare with Comcast in your area?

Anyone who has DirecTv and wants to lower their bill, call them up and threaten to leave telling them you are going the streaming route. They will immediately chop your bill by a sizable amount.

Will this have any effect on the future conference payouts? Like in a few years when we are receiving more than a ham sandwich from the conference.

I have Comcast in my area. We usually do the annual lower the rate call with them.

I'm in the Boston metro area and I will never go back to Comcast. Frankly, their service is so poor that DirecTV could cost more and I would still wouldn't choose Comcast. Anyway, when I switched 4 years ago, their prices were better than Comcast's by at least 15-20% for comparable channel lineup, etc. Also, their service was great. But, since the AT&T takeover, their prices have leveled out a bit and their service isn't as good. But, maybe I'm nitpicking.

Interesting that they’re only going to be in B1G states but they included Virginia in the list. I wonder if that means they’ll only be in the part of VA that’s in the DC (College Park) market area or statewide.
