Also reports that Thad Matta met twice with Georgia representatives, was offered the job, but then Thad withdrew his name from consideration.

IMO Thad is a bad fit for Georgia-------Crean to me makes a ton of sense for Pitt.

Yes... He can continue to recruit the same areas as he did with Indiana and Marquette before that. Plus, add in Philly recruiting. Gotta believe he would outrecruit Chambers for some of those players.

would be a great choice for them...better than Hurley IMO...Danny may be stuck at URI forever.....or be relegated to a weak SEC school

He has to go on interviews to show that he's job hunting in order to keep getting his money from tOSU.

When Pitt had good teams they had guys from NYC and NJ

City of Pittsburgh a very comfortable fit for a kid from the Metropolitan NY area

LOL Hurley is not getting stuck anywhere. He will have many places to go if he so chooses.

Again with the Hurley stuff... Guy has 2 tourney appearances and 1 conference championship. As the favorite, they just lost to Davidson last week.

Needs to make a deep run like Shaka Smart when he got to the Final 4.

The idea that Louisville or Arizona would take him right now is laughable. The names you hear with Louisville are Chris Mack, Matt Painter and Steve Alford. Hurley is just not in that company right now... No need to mention Arizona cause that's even more ridiculous.

tell me where he is going...Pitt would be a very good landing spot..as would UConn...does he want to go to a lower level SEC school

so looks if he does not land up there he likely is waiting it out at URI again

He could be waiting on St Johns or GT to see if Mullin or Ewing don't pan out in about 4 years.

Painter and Mack are long term coaches at their alma matters and aren’t going anywhere. Alford on the other hand is just a bad coach and I’d be shocked if he got another major gig after he’s inevitably let go by UCLA.

I agree on Painter----rumor in the profession was that if The Ville dumped Padgett they were going hard for Mack with a megabucks deal with mega years and he would take it.

I could see that.

why would Painter go, he has a 2 seed right now. He can recruit and win league titles in the Big 10 and compete for a national championship. Why leave to go to a conference where immediately you are considered at best 3rd. Yes sure you can win at UL but what does that mean, what would Painter get out of the job that he cannot get at Purdue with LESS PRESSURE..thats the key here..how many coaches have we seen move from a big conference job to another and then get forced aside for not winning enough..why does he need that.

Mack moving from Xavier to UL is intriguing but again he has a pretty good gig and the BE has proven that they have yet to fall off...he made the elite 8 at Xavier last year and they are a one seed...why go from where you are beloved to a pressure cooker

Georgia is IMO a great job .

I disagree. I think some of these SEC jobs are not so great because of the emphasis on football..and besides this year the SEC had been in a major slump nationally behind the Kentuckys

well Ewing just got there so he isnt going anywhere....Pitt is a better job than St Johns, its not the 80s

Well... That's why I said after another 4 years... As for St. John's, it's a Catholic school in the Big East and that may appeal to Hurley. ..and he can continue to recruit the northeast

I could see Louisville making a run at Greg Marshall though.

Marshall is interesting, but Wichita State joining the AAC might make him even less likely to leave than he was when they were in the MVC. I mean he's already extremely highly paid at a base salary of $3M a year (plus bonuses). Sure Louisville could pay him more, but Wichita State could also bump him up a bit and how much more would Louisville realistically offer?

If he went to Louisville it wouldn't be money driven.

These coaches are super competitive and the chance to coach in the ACC against Roy Williams, K, the guy at Syracuse, Brey would be the draw. That and it is the ACC.

The Koch brothers pay most of his salary at Wichita State not the school. I'm not even sure if the school pays him $1 million. What is the end of the day he does get $3 million per.

Louisville is one of the few jobs I think Marshall would leave for. He’d get the chance to go head to head with elite coaches and ultimately compete for national championships.

That being said, isn’t WSU involved in the FBI investigation? If so, I can’t imagine Louisville hiring a coach mixed up in that.

Disagree. Live in Georgia and as much as I hear people talking about Georgia football its just the opposite with UGA hoops. Not like they have any major winning tradition either.
No reason why Georgia can’t be successful in football and basketball, their rival Florida is able to do it. They have to show the willingness to allocate the necessary resources, maybe that time is now. There is an abundance of basketball talent in Atlanta.

I thought Crean would have been a better fit at Pitt than UGA although admittedly I am having some difficulty in identifying who would be a good candidate for Georgia. At Pitt there is a history of success and I think a clearer path to being a consistent top half of the conference performer in the ACC than with Georgia in the SEC. Not an easy road at Pitt but just as viable UGA. Also Crean's background at Marquette and Indiana would seem to be more aligned with Pitt geographically than UGA. Not saying he can't be a success there and I am sure they are paying more than what Pitt would have but I am surprised this got done so quickly.

You can't discuss Hurley, "the guy at Syracuse"....

Russ, consider me fascinated. You've got stories worth telling.

The state of Georgia right now is at the top of the charts in terms of HS Athletics.

Their best can go head to head with anyone .

Athens is a very cool place and you can attract kids from virtually anywhere to go there.

If Crean can keep the class they currently have committed together he could win very quickly there.
