The Rutgers women's basketball team was not selected to the 2018 NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament and will forgo an appearance in the WNIT.

"I believe in my heart that our team was worthy of an NCAA bid," said head coach C. Vivian Stringer. "It pains both the players and the staff to not have our name called this evening. We have decided that our season should end at this point and focus on the future and putting ourselves into a position to control our destiny come next season."

The Rutgers women's basketball team played to a 20-12 overall mark, marking a 14-game turnaround from the last season.

Hmmmm. Really? Looks more like CVS is sore loser. She should be leading them on in the WNIT. Good things could have happened there, like it did 2014. Sad ending to this season.

It is likely that at least the first-round game of the WNIT would have been at Rutgers.

I'm puzzled why Hobbs would allow CVS to turn down revenue for RU.

I don't care who decided to snub the WNIT. It is not a pretty look. The fans deserved to see the team play on. Remember 2014?

I am sure they are all disappointed they did not get a bid to the NCAA tournament. Tyler may want to concentrate her energy on trying to make a WNBA team. She already had the experience of winning the WNIT. The other seniors may not really care to play on if they aren't competing in the NCAA tournament. Personally, I'm not really sure why they even still bother to have a postseason WNIT.

Well if there are 64 other teams that wasn't to play in it...

The WNIT said RU originally accepted an at large bid then changed their minds and withdrew. USC was an automatic qualifier and they declined. Maybe RU had a conflict and couldn't host so the team decided they didn't want to have to travel?

I’m sure that’ll be the response to the media, or similar, but com’on lol

The way this season ended, you'd think Vivian and the team would want to prove they are better than they played at the end of conference season.

It made more sense to have the WNIT when the NCAA tournament used to only include 16 teams and later 32. Now with 64 teams making the NCAA tournament, there really aren't another 64 teams that really deserve to play in the post season IMO.
Agreed

Actually, no one will notice except the anti-CVS crowd, who would not have gone to a game anyway. BTW, RU would not make money hosting a game, except of course expenses.
I think you'd be little surprised. I would love some more local RU ball and the potential 1000 win game?

And if what you are suggesting is true...what does that say about the state of the program?

Why do you think football teams love playing s bowl game? They get another 15 or so practices and a game so they have a chance to get better. RU women clearly could have used the extra practice and game or games judging how atrocious the played against a CYO team called Northwestern in their last game.

I hope you are not talking about Rutgers Football, they would be lucky to get a chance to play in the toilet bowl. Don't shoot the messenger here, I have supported football since my freshman year when I was 17(long, long, time ago).

Last bowl game RU went to was in 2014.
But from 2005 to 2014 RU FB went bowling 9 out of those 10 years .
Not trying to compare because RU FB went bowling only once before 2015 (1978) and RU fans were starved for post season play.
Then were upset because of no major bowl game appearances.
At one time, under CVS , an NCAA appearance was commonplace and RU WBB fans could count on an invite.
Now both fan-bases can only hope for post season play and the RU MBB fans are hoping that will happen in a couple of years.
Last post season play was 2005-6 in the NIT and the last NCAA invite was in 1991.

As for me, my frustration is showing , that's why I'm upset at the no WNIT decision.
Especially when Rutgers accepted the WNIT invite after the 2014-15 regular season was over and won it's championship in the 2013-14 season.

I get the idea that it’s a bad look for CVS not going but if you think about it who cares, it’s the NIT. The team is probably exhausted and to go play in a 2nd rate tourney in front of a couple hundred people likely didn’t sound appealing. Not sure why they even have it at this point
