Nobody thinks he will win one this year. This year is about getting his game back. Which looks to be happening more quickly then expected.

Guessing Tiger gets in 3 or 4 more tournaments before The Masters. If and when he puts together striking accuracy and putting, then he'll contend again.
He looked closer this weekend .

All I see is you guys saying Tiger is back. If he is back, the dude previously won 14 majors. Your odds should be pretty good if he is truely back.
You do understand the difference between "never" and "this year" right??.
I not only agree with Cali he won' win another major but I have already stated both he and Phil won't win again on the PGA Tour. And I made the bet with jtung but didn't try to weasel out by adding a reset. You keep putting the blame on those that think Tiger can win again. It was Cali trying to squirm out of it by changing the bet in to his favor big time. He could still win money by losing, is that a fair bet? Who would want to bet him under those conditions.

Hold on. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he wins this year. Again, it's Tiger Woods. His best was so much better than the rest in his prime that he can deteriorate and still be better than everyone else.

You can talk about his power game, putting, etc...but his genius was in pulling out the W under the heat of a major, on Sunday. He didn't win them all but he won way, way more than anyone ever when he was within a few or in the lead, heading into Sunday.

And when he says, "I remember how to do this," I believe him. He still hasn't brought the "A" game. But he's getting closer, quickly. No reason to think he doesn't get sharper. We're close, folks and he's healthy. Amazing.

For the most part I agree although I think Phil has a better chance of pulling out a tour victory. He just needs one week where he doesn't have a WTF round.

When you look at this past weekend what kept Tiger out of contention obviously was the "Bear Trap". He could play the rest of the course about as well as anyone in the field but when it came down to the really tough holes he just couldn't compete. Over 4 days and 12 holes he was something like 8 or 9 over par. What happens at a US Open or Masters when the are even more difficult holes and pin placements or an Open Championship where the wind and weather gives you fits?

Three weeks ago, he could barely keep the ball on the hole he was playing. He's just getting warmed up. It's Tiger Woods. I just don't get how you make any proclamations about what this guy won't do when you look at the 75 wins/14majors. Mickelson has had a great career but it's not anywhere close to this guy.

Not being surprised if he won and expecting him to win are two different things. I wouldn't be shocked if he won either this year. Just saying I am not expecting it. At this point I expect him to be a top 5-10 player. Next year I am expecting big things.

Not talking about the past. It has no bearing on the future. But if you want to look backward you'll see Tiger's last Major win was 10 years ago. The last time he was in contention at a major was 5 years ago. Since 2009 he's had 8 wins of any kind. That's a long time.

Forget health or not healthy, he's old for a golfer. People at his age don't generally light up the course on a regular occasion. Him jumping up for a magical week wouldn't be shocking, but it's really hard to see him being a 'top golfer' at this age.

Tiger and Phil have the same problem as any former great golfer, age! Tiger also has to overcome more major injuries than most.
I cant speak for everyone but most that dont believe he can do it are not rooting against him. There is a big difference between the two.

If you're not in your 40s (or past them) it's hard to appreciate how true this is. I'm in pretty damn good shape for a 45 year old guy, I feel like I should be able to compete at the same level I did 10 years ago, but I simply can't. I can't put my finger on why I can't. I'm stronger than I have ever been, I can run just as far as I could 10+ years ago... Yet, I'm not as good at sports.

Obviously, I'm also not a professional, but the simple fact of the matter is **** stops working when you get old even when you stay in good shape, and often times it's hard to know why.

I was never a good golfer. I had my days here or there. I had to stop playing for a long time due to back issues. I can't imagine how tough it's been for Tiger trying to come back with the pain he's had to endure for such a long time. He deserves credit for sticking it out.

Cali benefits greatly by changing his bet this way. He said Tiger would "never" win another major. So if Tiger does win a major, say 3 years from now he would be wrong. However by changing the bet he would collect $200 before he would pay $100. Cali was trying to get away with a bait and switch. Yet he calls us lame.

I was making it more interesting. So Tiger will never win a major again on the PGA tour. 5 years. Anything more and even Tiger fan boys would agree that ain’t happening.

$100 (interested in more). jtung you in? Rick? Who else?

Bet what I offered above then.
Again for the 10th time I am on record that Phil AND Tiger will not only fail to win another major but NEVER WIN ON THE PGA AGAIN. Why would I go against that just to bet with you?? Why is that so hard for you to understand? I already made a bet that he wouldn't with jtung.

So you are just spouting off about something you aren’t interested in. Or maybe you’re upset I might make a more interesting bet.

You are the only one that thinks it's interesting. The rest of us saw it as the scam it was.
And unlike you I was interested. I made the bet without your reset nonsense. And I made it long before you.

Good point. I would say he would still flourish at familiar venues where he’s had success. He always has. I believe, if healthy, he will always contend at Augusta. Augusta’s layout is also relatively easier than other major venues. The other 3 majors will depend on the venue.

That’s a bold prediction, that Tiger and Phil will never win a tour event again.

But when you look at how deep the talent level is among young players on the Tour today, it will be a real challenge for either of them to win again. Every week there will be young players who will play well and both Tiger and Phil play a limited schedule.

May not be such a bold prediction when I look more closely at the competition.

Everyone is different and golf isn't hoops. Here are a couple of stats from his tournament:

"He led the field in proximity to the hole (29 feet, 3 inches) and driving distance on all tee shots (278.5 yards). He was third in driving distance on the two measured holes (319.1 yards)."

Nothing there to indicate he isn't coming to get everyone, again.

Except that he was that good at two parts of his game and still didn't contend. Except that, he hasn't 'come to get anyone' in a long time. Except that, even in golf, there is a large performance drop off for people as they get older.

His back is fused...different than the procedures he was getting before. More risk of complications which is why he didn't do it to begin with but it looks like his surgery was the really good outcome that you hope for. Any comparison to past comebacks is out the window.

There's also the pain meds. This is a different person than the one we've seen in comebacks in years past. He's alert and drug free.

His mental advantage and golf ability advantage was so far superior to those he played against, he can deteriorate and still be better.

As for why he didn't win with those stats, it was his third PGA event after a long, long lay off. The progress he's made has been obvious. No reason to think it doesn't get sharper.

Until he wins then he hasn't won, i get that. But what I'm seeing is telling me a win is imminent.

I guess, but to me it seems like the part of his game that has really been missing (when healthy) is the rock solid 5 foot putt, which has little to do with health. There's a long history of people starting to lose their putting as they get a bit older in golf, and not many of them get it back.

Well, I just looked up his stats, and he has lost some strokes putting, but many more tee-green, so many getting those tee-green back help get him in contention again. I'm skeptical, but I certainly wouldn't be surprised by a magic week or two from Tiger.

Look at who is winning this year. Young 30s and 20 year olds. Not really bold as golf history goes. Its a young mans game. Both Tiger and Phil have physical issues as well.
I'd be happy if Im wrong. Would be a big story, bigger if a major. And the majors, especially Augusta, are the best chance fir a win because experience is huge.
