Are shooters so hard to find

My friends kid plays for rbc who just got their clocks cleaned in the shore conf tourney by cba. Cba shot 10 of 12 from 3. I know it’s not that simple a question but even Monmouth has kids that can just plain shoot. Why has it been so problematic to get someone here in the last 15 years who is just a pure shooter.

It still doesn't answer the question why other schools that aren't even members of a power conference have better shooters/scorers than Rutgers?

Personally, this has to do with two issues in my opinion:

First, the previous coaching staff didn’t recruit shooters hard. They wanted athletic guard who could get out and run and then pepper i. A shooter or two, Thiam, Grier, Goode. So we don’t have them on the roster right now.

Second, shooters-these Days-are hot commodities. Everyone wants them. For years Rutgers name has been mud on the recruiting trail-for many reasons like Mike Rice and administrative support. So shooters had much better options. Now this seems to be starting to change and Pikiell needs to start locking down shooters.

Also, if you see shooters in a MAAC conference doing well, you still have that gap to the BIG ten, and they may not be able to replicate that in a better conference.

Continuing with Justin Goode for an example, he was a great shooter in HS. Did you see his HS competition? Not high level D1 athletes. Also, Justin Goode never succeeded at a high level in AAU. That means something.

So to put it simply, you can look at shooters in other conferences. In other levels (HS), but you always have to look at the competition at who they are playing. It might not replicate.

High level, major conference D1 athlete who can shoot the basketball well are in very high demand. There is not a huge supply of them. Economics lesson takes it from here.

I see about 40 HS games a year and I haven't seen many great shooters this year. The kid from Immaculate is an excellent shooter.

The style of play in the NY/NJ area IMO is more take it to the rim.

I also like to watch good mid major teams play and in the last 2 weeks watched St Bonnie and Hofstra playing with guys at Guard that are light years better than what Rutgers is playing with.

They're out there you have to find them.

If we're looking at another 3 years to turn this around than 2019 is the last year without getting some good shooters. It's worth getting a guy who is really good offensively and giving up a little on the other end. If we developed people that can get to the basket that would really be huge. Not seeing that with the present roster. Hopefully, the new guys will provide some answers.
