Pretty low shot. I guess you don't know what a great father / son relationship is.

Thanks to everyone else and Nuts for reaching out.

Not for nothing dude, I know you're trying to help your kid but I kind of agree with the poster. He's not a kid anymore. Let him figure it out, he'll be fine.

No way.

I wouldn't call the commute to UPENN easy and you're talking almost 1-1.5 hours each way to KOP from Haddonfield.

My wife used to commute from Cherry Hill, not far away from Haddonfield, to K of P. The only thing that saved her was that she went at off-hours, and even so the commute was difficult. Getting to the Penn area from Haddonfield/Cherry Hill requires two trains (PATCO and SEPTA) or a challenging 40-minute drive. Don't go to the Jersey side of the Delaware.

I noticed the mention of Fishtown. This is an area that is coming up, but there is still a considerable crime risk there. In addition, I wouldn't want to have to rely on the Vine Street Expressway to get to either Penn or to 76 for K of P.

If she doesn't need to be so close to UPenn after all and he needs to be close to KOP, check out Phoenixville. Craft whiskey place and Iron Hill Brewery next door to each other. Downtown has really improved in the past 7-10 years. She can always catch SEPTA into Philly on Main Line stops like Paoli.

My daughter has been in Philly for 2 1/2 years. Loves it EXCEPT for the commuting. The practice she works for has 5 locations and she often has to travel between them. She started out in Fairmont but when roommate decided to move she got a studio in a less desirable area although there's now a fair amount of gentrification going on around her. She might be moving on as landlord says he may be making some changes when her lease is up.

Fairmont and the Art Museum area is, has always been fantastic. Lived on N. 27th Street just off Pennsylvania Ave for 5 years. Loved it. Might still be there except for lack of parking. I'm not a high rise apartment type but there are many there with parking. 2601 was on my corner and was there Thanksgiving. An option worth looking into.

Funny thing is, Chestnut Hill in NW Philly has homes over $1M in value.

...Jersey City -that's right - has KITCHENS worth nearly that much LOL!

BTW - as anti-Philly sports as I am, growing up just a 25-minute jaunt to Cottman Ave and 40/45 to center city, I'll say this:

Philly is HUGE so, while it has its "trouble spots," as does almost every city, you can easily avoid them if you'd like. Now I don't know how the "borders" of the neighborhoods are these days, and if there are $1M dollar townhomes within 50-feet of the projects, like in Hoboken, or a down the street from serious projects and neighborhoods, like in JC, but these cities have learned to live hand-in-hand where the communities "blend," fairly well, over the past 20 years DESPITE the dramatic changes within and around some of these area in such a short time period. You'd be surprised. I used to park IN the projects of Hoboken, almost daily, for about 2 years (2010-12) and never a single issue but when I lived at home in Hamilton during my 2 years back at Mercer CCC, well, someone blew up our mailbox and I lived a good 5 miles from any "bad" area of Trenton (at the time). So...yeah..ya' never know!

Anyway, I'm pretty sure there are plenty of areas of Philly I'd rather live, right now, than some of the cities in South Jersey (Trenton/Camden) that have NOT seen these type of changes (yet) and may not for a while (which is a shame...the area of Trenton my pop grew up, just off the river about half a mile and north of downtown, is a beautiful area with some seriously beautiful, classic old homes, that are just waiting to start being bought up, flipped, and see the same type of changes that other areas as such have seen. Along the river, as well...Would be nice...).

My best friend lives near Northern Liberties and it's up-and-coming. There are restaurants, bars, breweries and a cidery all within walking distance.

Phoenixville is also excellent if you want tons of local beer/ wine/ spirits. You could do a big crawl of all the breweries, wineries, and distillers in that town.

Manyunk Or east falls to stay in city, but have a car and park and short ride in.

Ardmore or Narberth to be close to KOP, find a place have a car and take the train.

After that, those two locations you have are not a great combination

They are also going to demolish a lot (maybe all) of the Hoboken Projects, the Holland Gardens in JC, and they already did Montgomery- and replace them with with mixed (affordable and market rate) apartment/condos. So that's very true. Not sure if this is a Hudson County thing only or across the board.

I figured I might as well try to get some feedback on this site.

My son and fiance are moving to Philly. She needs to be close to UPenn Hospital and he will need to drive to KOP for work. They would like place where they can walk outside to find restaurants and bars and of course safe. Parking spot is a must. 2 bedrooms or 1 bedroom with office. $2,500 /$3,000 k / month price range.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

3K for 2 beds can get very nice amenities and locations in the city itself as opposed to these neighboring areas lots of people are calling out. Presume you are looking in the city for those prices, as they are way high for suburb rentals.

Depends on the definition of "close to HUP". When my wife was a resident, we lived in domus which is a couple blocks from the hospital and in that price range. Area is very safe as it is swathed in campus police, but not walking distance to center city night life. Lots of law and business students and the occasional faculty.

Further away from the hospital but closer to center city, there are many nice new high rises 3+ blocks off rittenhouse square in that price range that can give the access to restaurants etc. Did this while she was a med student.

For us the move to domus was driven by the schedule of shifts, not wanting to take public transportation, and the hospital parking deck for residents being 6+ blocks from the hospital.

No way around it that with one person in KOP and one at HUP, there will be painful commuting, just a matter of how the pain is divided.

In philly all the time. likely moving there next year. Philly is actually a very afordable city and for that price range you can get some pretty good places. Look into sterling apartments, Evo. Center city or university city is your best bet. UPENN is in the latter but both are very easily reached from both spots.

I was thinking Conshohocken as well but he will have to sell her because it’s closer to KoP. But nice little downtown with some restaurants and pubs. Near major highways and very short ride to other places like KoP or the Main Line/Villanova (without the cost). Plenty of shopping close by.

Also has a brewery in town and a good beer bar in the Boat House. Also near great suburban beer bars like Capone’s or Teresa’s.

Ardmore is okay too but the area might be a little more snooty and there some creepy neighborhoods.

Someone mentioned UofP being an elite neighborhood but you only have to go a few blocks to be in pure ghetto.
