Couldnt really see how he hurt himself as it appears his knee just buckled and gave out. Reaction of Eugene as well as Coach and that of announcers appears injury is unfortunately quite serious. Hope and pray he's not that badly hurt as he's worked his butt off and deserves better

Anyway, yeah, it looked like the trainer popped it back in super quick after he got on court. You could hear the crowd's reaction and see it appear to pop in.

Google machine says typical rehab for dislocated kneecap is 6 weeks which would mean his season is over but that's a helluva lot better than what I thought originally. If in fact a dislocated kneecap is the issue.
Yeah. Having a full offseason to focus on basketball instead of rehabbing an injury will be very important.
season wasnt going anywhere anyhow, RU was losing this game Eugene or no Eugene...so we had a shot at maybe 2 wins more, maybe now none or maybe Illinois in a complete reversal at the RAC but lets just get everyone healthy and start letting the younger players take more shots

The Illinois player stepped on the inner part of Eugene's foot as he ran by, which looked to be incidental. As he had his weight on Eugene's foot, Eugene tried to shift left to guard his man - at which point, his leg torqued with the foot being anchored to the floor.
I've dislocated my knees (both of them) several times, and I've had this exact thing happen. I was trying to pivot in cleats, and the cleats stuck into the ground and my leg torqued and the kneecap slid out of place.
First time it happened to me was in high school, and it was about a 6 week recovery, if I remember. Swelled up like a grapefruit a couple hours after the injury. I had some partial ligament tears, but didn't need surgery. Overall it was ice/elevation, crutches and a leg immobilizer - then physical therapy.
Really hoping that he didn't do any significant damage in there.

We really only have 7 guys who score almost all of our points and without Williams & Omoruyi we are basically down to 5 scorers. This is almost as bad as two years ago with the injuries. I hope Eugene can turn out to be not as badly injured as it appears.
Your patella is your kneecap. The patellar tendon runs across the top of it, and connects the patella (bone) to the bones of the upper and lower leg. Really hope it's not a full tear of anything (tendon or ligament) and doesn't require surgical repair.
I've dislocated both of mine several times without a full patellar tear (but my patella is also somewhat abnormally shaped, so my experience is not standard). I have a bunch of microtears all over the ligaments and tendons in my knees, and the sharp bone chip floating around in there did more damage until they got it out. I've lost a lot of elasticity over the years, but never had a full tear of anything.
Sadly, RU has now lost the heart (Williams) and the soul (Eugene) of the team. I don’t see another win on the schedule. Ugh! I certainly hope Eugene makes a speedy recovery and is ready to go out of the gate next season.

Happened to my nephew rebounding the ball. Same injury Terry Bridgewater had. Minimum year recovery.

They'll do an MRI to see the extent of the damage. Lots of things connected together in the knee, and when it twists in a way it's not supposed to and the patella slips out of place, a lot can happen. Best case scenario is immobilization, rest, and then therapy. Lots of different things could require surgery, though.
If it was a dislocation, he's definitely out the rest of the season at minimum, I'd imagine. Question will be how much repair/treatment/therapy is needed and how much stability he'll have in the knee going forward.
It usually goes hand in hand. Went knee to knee in hockey and dislocated kneecap tore mcl and pcl. I hope it isn't that bad for him.
incidental or not I have no idea how you don't award a foul to Sa. whether he had possession of the ball or lost it, the Opposing player swatted at him and hit him the face. That should be a foul regardless of injury and not calling fouls like that in turn is how injuries like that occur. Consistency seems to be completely irrelevant in college ball

The officiating was nowhere near the reason for this awful loss, but it WAS awful. Sa's injury was an obvious foul - and a rough foul, not called. Omoruyi's injury came on a foul also - the Illinois layer who hit Omoruyi was moving (effectively a moving screen) - and also had his right forearm shoving hard against Sanders' face as he cut across the lane ... 2 fouls for the price of one.
Freeman and Sanders were both fouled multiple times in the 1st half, while shooting, with no calls - while 1 minute into the game Doucore gets called for a foul on essentially the same play that Illinois players were doing all the time without calls.

Go back and watch on slo mo... it doesn't look like there is any knee-on-knee contact. He stepped on Eugene's foot and anchored it to the ground as Eugene tried to move/pivot on that leg. The thigh twisted and the lower leg didn't.
I remember having my knee swell up after twisting it ....back in the 80's. I worked as practice administrator for an Occ/ Med Group. The Ortho, looked at my knee (after I'd iced it for several days), and took out a large hypodermic needle. Can't remember the #'s but he drained the sinobial fluid....said I might have injured or burst a bursa.
The knee's been fine since....

There might have been shin on shin contact.. at an angle bad for EO.. yes.. while anchoring the foot. Stand up an spread your feet out past your shoulders and imagine someone pressing on your mid-lower-leg from the side hard enough to buckle your knee.
I once twisted my knee out of the socket playing ball.. sticky floor at Werblin in May (or was it June?). The humid air (from pool and warm temps outside) make that a dangerous place at that time of year. I planted my right leg and turned to my left.. but my foot stayed planted while my upper leg made the turn with me. Took one hop and threw myself on the floor on my butt... instantly know I was not getting back up on that leg.
Got some bad doctoring at that time.. someone saying xrays showed "floating bodies" around the knee.. doctor doing arthroscopic on the knee said he found nothing.. is now a minor "trick" knee. Doesn't fully buckle.. but it makes ladders and staircases a tiny bit dramatic at times.
My guess would be he will get great doctoring but won't trust his knee fully for over a year... which is pretty common for athletes... though EO seems to be an especially determined young man.
Without Omoyuri and Williams, I am prepared for some really brutal loses from here on out. It could get uglier than Jordan days. Best to both #5 and #11. Great kids.
Yeah - I had a loose body they had to remove at one point, and I thankfully had a very patient doctor who found it after an hour of looking (it was a thin piece of bone about the size of a 50 cent piece that had sheared off the patella, and was hiding pressed up against my femur). It was not fun while it was in there, and it knicked up a bunch of other stuff while it was floating around.
Agree on the "trust his knee" thing. Instability was my biggest issue - when I first injured my right knee, I managed to do it again six months later because I made a quick twist motion without thinking. Again, though, my patellas aren't shaped correctly, so I'm more prone to slippage - and I have never had quads that were in Div-I athlete shape to keep everything in place.
Hopefully the MRI showed nothing major and he's on his way to recovery without needing surgical repair. Eugene's probably my favorite player on the team - hate to see him going through this.
If he dislocated his knee cap he would have to have at least partially torn a patellar ligament. It depends on whether they want to repair the tear. Sometimes if it's minor they don't need to and physical therapy is enough. If they repair it the recovery is a bit longer. Either way he's most likely out for the season.
