Practices start later today. He is listed as a OLB. His weigh-in was:

Ht: 6'4.3"
Wt: 252 lbs
Hand: 9 3/8"
Arm: 33 5/8"
Wing: 79 3/4"

Good size - hopefully he'll show something this week and have freak-athletic combine #'s.

He's being cited on twitter as one of the "weigh-in winners", basically good measurables and looked good on stage.

I saw some guy say he’s a 7th rd pick, he’s gotta be higher than that
His production has pedestrian at best. He is small for a DE and has never played outside linebacker. He ahs a history of injuries, If it wasn't for his athletic ability he wouldn't even be considered a 7th round pick.

The history of injuries was the same injuries to his shoulders, and probably due to our previous coach having him play before he was fully healed.

I see teams looking at him more in the Oliver Vernon role than a tradition DE. Vernon's listed as a DE at 6'2" 260 but really he's more a pass rusher who sometimes covers RB's in certain blitz packages. Turay has shown the ability to cover RBs out of the back field and is very athletic.

If he preforms well at the NFL combine I could see a team taking a flyer in the 5th round. Those later rounds are usually where you find your role players and he fits that nitch. As for the injury history it was the same injury to the same shoulder. That could be easily explained that he was rushed back too soon. Then once fully healed he came back to play his senior year.

He will get drafted. He basically played OLB in a 3-4 this year and had a complete year. What's funny is a lot of posters just post without watching film. If you grab some popcorn, a beer and sit there, watch his film from this year and you will see a NFL draft pick. I'm going to call it right now. With how the NFL drools over athletic linebackers with pass rushing skills, I could see Turay going as high as 2nd round with a long shot at first round. See y'all after the draft because I bet I will be right.

We CONSTANTLY overrate our potential draft picks here so I wouldn't be surprised at all if Turay is a 6th/7th round guy of guy. Injuries, injuries, injuries.

It is a mix bag, some guys like Kroft were underrated. I remember a bunch of people saying that AD was not going to be a first round pick.

Well, the one thing that helps our players is the competition they go against now. Don't know how KT did against tOSU, PSU, Michigan, etc - would be cool if someone had his stats per game. If he can run in the 4.7-4.8 range, decent vertical, good 3-cone, and doesn't look stiff as a board in the agility drills, he will be drafted. BUT, combine invites have not gone out yet.

I can't imagine him not getting an invite to the combine, the senior bowl is more selective.

If Turay puts up the crazy numbers I expect at the combine, I tend to agree with your assessment.

Turay has a good (not amazing) freshman year and was then very average on a below average D-line after that. Yes injuries were a factor but I feel like his legend always way outweighed his performance at RU. 7th round sounds right

Agree, in principle, but think skittishness over injuries, will keep him to the 3rd/4th rounds. You can't teach his athleticism and size, but you can teach shemes and techniques and he clearly showed huge strides in those, covering backs/TEs much more and much better this year, which is very important for the NFL.

No, it's NOT a "mixed bag." I'd say 9 out of 10 times this board is wrong re: potential DRAFT choices and/or round a kid is gonna go in the draft.

BTW - That has nothing whatsoever to do with whether or not undrafted kids, or kids going later than WE expect them to go, end up with NFL careers.

The 2017 DL may not have been the equal of Ohio State or Michigan, but it was not below average.

Hate to put a damper on it, but with his lack of production and injury history, I see a day 3 pick. There are always a lot of good athletes that are potential fits but end up late in the draft or not getting drafted at all, and he might be one of them. The good thing is that he was coached by Ash in the Ohio State defensive system for a couple of years, and has learned 3-4 OLB now and has that impressive freshman film. Obviously as a fan of his, would love for you to be right!

It's funny that an Alabama guy thinks highly of one of our guys more so then we do. You have to consider he may have a better eye for talent since Bama has it in spades every year. Btw, PSU_NUT... nevermind.[roll]

Its not even about that. Its about watching film and seeing what NFL teams are looking for in a player. You got people on here trashing the kid and they don't know ****. The Penn State poster doesn't watch Kemoko Turay film. A lot of these posters don't watch film. They watch games and go off what the end results are. That's why coaches get paid the big bucks and posters pay to troll ****.

Cubuff- you and there is one more poster that I respect in regard to defensive play. Our problem as a fanbase is that we have "Wfan itis" where we go by sacks, Int's TD's or if a guy is talked about a lot. And we don't understand that the game is so much more then that. Most NFL teams will have 1 guy at most with double digit sacks so what the hell are all the other DL doing on that team?
So, with Turay...as a Freshman, he had those highlite film plays...OMG we are going to have an All American Sack machine!!! His next couple of years you saw what appeared to be a serious drop off. But no one is considering the injuries this kid went through and the piss poor evaluation of those injuries and what was causing them. What many don't know is that he also had to deal with non football BS here as well. So, top that off with his religion which basically makes him a vegan but he has to put on weight.
We get to this year. Let's go back to the "Wfan itis" of fans around here. Where are his sacks? He isn't playing well! Where are the highlite film plays? He isn't playing well. But...he pretty much had his career year this year. He became a 3 down player. He was asked to drop into coverage. He did rush the passer at times and often was just a hair short but he disrupted the play. What he did was showcase what he could be at the next level.
6ft4 252lbs is respectable as a DE and scary as a LB. What will be the difference maker for him is how he grew as a leader. Outside of SJD, he was the vocal leader on the D in the locker room. We still have some bad eggs in this program and between him and SJD they got into those kids faces and warned freshmen away from them.
Also- getting invited to the combine actually pushes him up a round or two in my mind. If he was a "pro day" guy. 6/7 rd or FA...If he is healthy for the combine, he is one of those guys that have a shot to really bump himself up. He is going to do well in the interviews, he will have some good to amazing film...He measured well. If he puts up some numbers and kills the interviews(yes, they will ask about the injuries) he could be a big riser.

But heck, our fans didnt see the sacks so he sucks.

NJ self loathing.

Disagree buddy it's just speaking factually. I'll repeat myself from earlier in the thread: EVERY single year we overrate (the vast majority of) our player's DRAFT prospects, without fail, and look foolish. The # of guys we've claimed were gonna be top 4 rounds, who went 6th/7th round, or # of guys we said were "locks" to get drafted - BUT HAVEN'T - is stunning. If you went back through the years, potential draft pick thread after thread, you would see.

Now the "why's" as to this, when many of our kids the last 15-years outplayed their position in the draft, or lack thereof, is a whole 'nother story.

All that being said I HOPE he's the #1 pick overall!

No your problem as a fan base is that you have never experience success at the highest level. 2006 was morning coffee compared to what would happen if Rutgers won anything important in the Big Ten. Its a problem when you actually got a guy getting all the NFL love and you trashing the kid. If anything, its speaks to player development because before the season, I read on here that no one expected "nothing" from him.

It is actually refreshing to hear something good from another fanbase. I know from personal experience that our fans are going to knock every single player we have unless they are talked about on sports center. Heard it plenty- not strong enough, big enough, good enough...only to see that player get years in at the NFL.
I don't know if Turay gets drafted or where or when...The draft itself is a very strange animal and depending on "runs" on certain positions, he could move way up or way down.
