And lmao at petitioning to have your team shut down for losing to Indiana ... did you miss the 2015 season?

Quick recap: 0-12, with a 40-13 loss in your big Uconn (sub .500) rivalry game, a 52-7 dismantling at the hands of a mediocre Cincinnati, a loss to FCS Furman ([roll]), and back-to-back 44 to 1-scores at the hands of the powerhouse combo of East Carolina (sub .500) and USF. If you were in charge, your program would have shut down before last season and never experienced the great 2017 season or a Peach Bowl win.

You can gtfo, now.

We lost our QB1, RB1, and WR1 in the first 2 weeks of the year along with our coach being diagnosed with a real illness and having to step down mid season. If you think those are normal circumstances relatable to your year in and year out pitifulness than fine. We knew it wasn't that's why the freshman and sophomore's on that team were part of this years undefeated season.

All I'm saying is, you seem to be using your ineptitude to compete in the BIG since you guys joined, and assume we would have those same shortcomings and not be able to handle it based on absolutely nothing other than your imagination.

Oh, I didn't realize you had so many stipulations to your declaration that you'd have petitioned to cancel your program. Must not have read carefully enough ... I thought it just had to do with a rough score in a single game.

And we're using the reality of actually having watched the step up in competition on a weekly basis. Besides a guy or two who might have gotten carried away, most agree you were a very good team, but not an undefeated, NC-level team, had you had to play through P5 competition. Is that really controversial?

Looks like your record playing P5s has been **** during your half-decade or so surge into the national conversation. Just last year, you got destroyed by Michigan and beaten by Maryland. Only P5 win this year was v a lousy Maryland (who lost its QB2 during that game, since we're making injury excuses). But we're supposed to believe you would have rolled through PSU, OSU, MSU, Washington and the rest to end up in the same place? And even if you had a nice upset or two, that schedule wouldn't have ground down your team? You're way more delusional than anyone else here if that's your thought.

Not being able to get past 6 WINS with your schedule was what I was responding to. That was delusional. And even in our worst year ever, did we not get shutout by the likes of Indiana.

We'll never know how many wins exactly we would get. But why don't we get the BIG10 budget and recruiting tag and then we can see. The last time we were in a conference with you, we won it all, topped off with a Fiesta Bowl win over #5 Baylor.

4? I count 3: Auburn, USF and Memphis

USF and Memphis played the 76th and 99th most difficult schedules in the nation this year (to go along with UCF's 72 which was 99th PRIOR to them playing USF and Auburn). Auburn, as I've said in another thread, was a GREAT win for them and GREAT win for anyone, no question, BUT IT IS NOT a season full of a top 30/40, even top 50-type of schedule and if you don't understand that then I don't know what to tell you buddy (funny, we usually agree on a lot of things lol...) We played the 35th toughest schedule and, yeah, I'd like my chances taking the odds that they would have lost at least 3 regular season games with OUR schedule.
It's simply not as clear cut as you would have it.

UCF beat Memphis twice, USF, and Auburn. That's 4. Nobody plays a season full of top 30/40 teams. And they beat three additional bowl teams. Now, going into the final selection, Bama had beaten two teams ranked in the top 25, in the lower half. Bama plays all of their OOC at home. And they lost to Auburn. Who UCF just beat.

So it is really not as clear cut as you would like it to be. When it came to beating strong teams, UCF outshone every team in the playoffs. They were the only team undefeated against such teams.

We do agree on most stuff, but would UCF have lost three games with our schedule? Maybe 1. Possibly 2. They are just too good to have lost 3.

Again...you have come nowhere close to convincing me that UCF would have won more than 9 games against our schedule. They simply played a very weak schedule, week-in and week-out during the regular season (only playing TWO ranked teams, btw...), in very tame venues week-in and week-out, against - for the most part - pathetic defenses. These things, over the course of a SEASON, make a big difference and I think most would agree with that. UCF, in a nutshell, did NOT have to do any such thing so adding their title game, and a game against a completely uninterested Auburn, do very, very little to convince me otherwise. Sorry buddy!

IMHO there were 6 teams on our schedule who could beat UCF: Wash, OSU, PSU, MSu, Wisconsin...and they would likely lose 3 of those 5...LIKELY...IMHO.

But you did lose to worse, non-P5 teams by more points, huh? Not really sturdy ground to stand on.

Below 6 wins was a reach, but we definitely have enough information for a very educated guess that you'd have a much different record in B1G East.

Btw, this is a thread praising your QB. No reason to come in hot as if the whole board is dumping on UCF. Most here seem to admire what they've done, going back years. Several threads of that with many posts over the past few days. Not exactly sure where you're coming from hurling insults at about our team on R board. Don't be a fkn Temple.

Saying the same thing three times using different words isn't really an argument. They played four teams who are currently ranked (don't know how else I can say this): Memphis twice, USF, and Auburn. How you can get two out of that is beyond me. They beat each one of them. They also played four other bowl teams. They beat all those teams. They are the #1 team in the nation in scoring offense. They hung 34 on Auburn, the #13 defensive team in the nation. Bama scored 13 against Auburn, Clemson scored 14, and Georgia scored 17. UCF scored 34. There are two teams on our schedule ranked higher than UCF, and when the final rankings come out, UCF will probably be in the top 8 or higher.

The question is fairly simple. We played five very strong teams: OSU, Washington, PSU, MSU, and Michigan. Does UCF go 3-2 against these five? I think they do easily. I think they probably go 4-1. The remainder of our schedule was not that tough, and Frost doesn't seem to allow oops games.

Where are you getting that from? 4-1 against that Top 10 slate of teams who've been playing through and winning v P5 competition for decades? It's not like UCF even dominated its own conference as if it was on a P5 level - squeaked past USF for the title and had a couple of close games. No logical reason to believe 4-1 against those teams. 3-2, maybe, but just as likely they have a losing sub-record there - some pretty damn good teams and bowl winners on that list.

Go back and look at UCF's record playing P5 teams the past five years, including Frost's first year in 2016 - they 100 percent benefitted from not having to play a consistent P5 schedule.

I agree.. but maybe they go undefeated playing Alabama's schedule.

I think where teams like UCF lose in a P5 schedule is through attrition. There would be more injuries and lack of depth would be an issue in November games.

We have been through that in the 80s.

Don't really get your infatuation with the P5 record the past 5 years as an indicator as to how we would fare this year with this team. It's the coaches second year and the team came together more quickly than expected. We lost some P5 games the past 5 years and we also have a couple of top ten wins (#8 Louisville and #5 Baylor in 2013).

When you try to flaunt a school's decade long reputation as to why they would win, like you did above, it comes off as very lazy.

If you are going to criticize my evidence, you should cite my argument correctly and in its entirety. Also, maybe some evidence of your own would be a stronger play?

Isn't the whole discussion how you would have done playing an all P5 schedule? We can't really base that on this year's schedule, since that's the whole damn problem - you only had but 2 P5 games and one was a terrible team. Drawing a conclusion of ... well, they beat Auburn, so surely they'd have mowed down OSU, PSU, UW, MSU, UM ... is asinine.

So feel free to present your own evidence as to why you go 4-1 against higher ranked teams, in much tougher conferences, with equally impressive bowl wins. I look forward to it, since real laziness = providing no evidence at all.

Best QB named Milton since Plum. (Yep, I'm that old.)
Don't think he played against RU or at least didn't start. Played them in 1954 & 55, but his senior year was 1956 and we didn't play them. Probably just as well. Heck of a HS player, offense, defense, kicker and punter.
He and Peyton still share a TD record as a pro.

There is no evidence on this year's team other than what we have done this year thus far. If thats not enough to convince someone than so be it. That's what makes the conversation so intriguing.

But I know for certain that bringing up a schools reputation to help support how you think they would fare on the field is for sure in the wrong direction.

Perhaps it's that type of thinking that has the CFP putting Bama at 4.

It's not a top 10 slate. Three are, two are clearly not. Michigan isn't even top 25. Of those five teams and UCF, who beat the best bowl team? UCF. Michigan didn't even win. In the final polls, my guess is that, from our schedule, only OSU will be ranked higher than UCF, and that will be close. Possibly PSU, but I wouldn't be surprised if UCF is in the top six. As to domination, during the regular season, their average win was by three touchdowns.

What difference does it make who beat the best bowl team when several of those actual teams were ranked better or near where Auburn was ranked going into the bowl? And even at that ... Auburn's the best match because it was ranked one spot ahead of USC? Or because it looked better in its bowl game? .. which has ambiguous connotations for this discussion. OSU blew USC, PAC12 champs, off the field. UCF's win was impressive, but not of that same dominating caliber, which could be said of its wins against all those 4 top 25 teams, save for the first Memphis game.

No doubt in my mind UCF doesn't survive 4 and 1 through that schedule, but I reckon it doesn't really matter. We'll never know. I'd still like to see the system switched up to give a team a chance to prove it in the playoffs.

What reputation? I brought up how you've fared vs. P5s in the past because it shows that P5 competition isn't the same as AAC, which was the whole point.

In 2014, you went 7-1 in conference, a very solid year. That same year, you lost to all three P5s you played. Should we believe you would have gone 7-1 ..oops 6-2 (PSU) in the B1G East that year too?

2013 - kinda of a big year, yeah? - swept through the conference but had that one nagging loss ...to USCe.

But we'll just have to believe this year's team rolls through some of the best P5s in the country .. with maybe one loss.

What difference does it make? It makes all the difference. What else can a team do other than beat a team who solidly beat BOTH of the contenders for the national championship? They didn't get a chance to do any more.

They beat ranked teams 4 times, beat 4 other bowl teams, and had an average margin of victory of three touchdowns. Might they go 2-3 against five teams, three of whom are ranked below them? Yeah, maybe. But there's little to back up such a claim. There's a lot to say that a team who will probably finish 5th or 6th in the nation has a right to be there.

But in the end, you're right on we'll never know. It's what makes arguments like this fun. But ultimately pointless!

The WHOLE point was trying to determine how THIS YEARS UCF team would fare with a BIG schedule. I don't understand why you keep banging your head on 5, 6, 7 years ago records against P5. What does that have to do with the 2017 team? We beat PSU in 2013 ad lost to them in 2014, but who cares???

Who said the AAC was as tough as the BIG this year? I didn't. And we don't have any AAC losses to even discuss. In fact we had an average margin of victory of 3 TD's as the poster above already mentions.

What is relevant is the 4 in a row top AP 25 wins, with the last one over #7 Auburn (who beat both teams playing on Monday). THIS is relevant to THIS years team.

We have know idea what effect attrition would have had on UCF had they played in the B1G this year, common sense tells you it would have been an issue.
Based on this year, the league they played in and the health status of their team, I think they could beat anyone and had success in the final 4.
But that league will never be represented until the playoffs expand, or you can manage to play Ohio St, Alabama and USC in your non conference games and win.
Much like Boise could have beaten playoff teams in the past.

That's an interesting point, zap. I tried to find some data on whether injuries vary by league, but came up with nada.

Gotta wonder if Frost is going to put Nebraska back on top in the football world. I fear he may make Nebraska into a perennial powerhouse and stay there for 20 years.

You did notice that the UCF coach stayed to coach in a meaningless bowl game as did Ash - it is called loyalty. He will be off to Nebraska later today.
How is finishing off a perfect season a meaningless game?

I mentioned that above.. and many of us are older Rutgers fans and we have direct knowledge of going from an undefeated team playing a rather Ivy League schedule to playing a tough schedule.

We have seen direct cases of beating ranked teams.. or coming damn close.. early in the season only to get blown out by barely ranked teams late in the season. Too many cold November nights up in Giants Stadium watching Pitt and WVU tear us apart when we probably could have beaten them early in the season with everyone healthy.. or at least given them a game.

We have seen the affects of attrition directly.

And even today it is an issue because, while we have had more depth than we had in the 80s. we do not have the depth to compete with the best in out conference.

UCF had a great season.. as did Boise State some years back.. and there have been other examples. I suppose TCU might be the best example of a team that was dominating playing a lesser schedule who continued to succeed once they were in a better conference.

But TCU is the exception... not that we have seen many cases of teams moving up. When Rutgers joined the Big Ten we were already on the slippery slope.. Maryland as well. Even PSU saw some initial success then struggled in the Big Ten.. Nebraska as well. WVU as well in the Big XII. Mizzou was doing great in the Big XII and struggles in the SEC.

Bottom line.. no reason to deny what UCF achieved.. but playing a P5 schedule is serious business and should be considered when evaluating teams.
