“It was my first offer. I was amazed. A lot of people from Jersey really don’t like their home team but growing up, I always loved Rutgers.”

God we have so much to overcome in our own state. Sometimes it just seems easier to go for out of state kids because the NJ kids/family/handlers are all constantly putting RU down

I feel the same way sometimes, but 2006 showed us that the love is there... even if most of it is bandwagon love.

I've explained this story a lot on these boards over the years... we have a long way to go the completely brand New Jersey as a Rutgers state. The way that Penn State is Pa, or Ohio State is OH. I'm sure it's different now, but think about this... when I was a FB recruit in high school ('97), I had absolutely no clue where RUTGERS was. I knew it was in NJ, but that was it. I didn't even know it was the state university. So, we're talking roughly 20 years ago. The point that I'm making is that recruits parents (some of them) are my age. That's a whole lot of making up to do. Kids that witnessed (and can remember) the rise in football in '06 are probably only as young as 15-25 yrs old. Some of those fans that were created in 06' era don't have kids yet. But when they do, they will grow up Rutgers fans. It's gonna take that kind of deep history before these kids grow up WANTING to stay home and represent.

I saw Noah play this weekend at Kean when St. Benedict's defeated Oak Hill. He is an amazing player and he is only a freshman.

One of the things I really liked about Schiano was that he really understood this.

One thing that a "first offer" to a student means is that the staff who did it is always around the high school game. It is very hard to be that staff that gets the first offer.

He said the school he goes to "has to have a very very very good business school". So realistacally, considering the basketball powers that be and their relative business programs, he should end up on the banks unless he's lying.

Decades of futility is the primary reason why top tier NJ recruits choose out of state schools.Perception matters in recruiting and to think otherwise is pure folly.

You hit the nail on the head. I didn't even know where Rutgers was before 2006. Only thing I remembered was my dad taking me to a game in the late 90's to see Miami.

Someone send him a video of the RU v SHU game so he can see the kind of love and the atmosphere he will play in if he gets an opportunity to play on a Rutgers basketball team.

Need some video...give Pikiell and Knight a few years to build a relationship with a Jersey guard and we will have a chance.

Noah will be a top 20 kid once 2020 rankings come out. Pikiell has been playing the long game on this one. Would be a hell of a break.

Making the tourney in '18 and '19 will help....another negative recruiting tactic against Rutgers would be gone. And of course, that brand new Practice Facility that he will be using should get his attention.

Think that backcourt would be playing in the regionals with a real shot to cut down the nets ....

This kid had a hop step dunk at Kean this past January during one of the larger tournaments that was off the charts....he is a wizard with the ball and has the pick and roll game, on lock down....will be absolutely scary at the college level.

It’s not just Rutgers. NJ folks are the most cynical there are. They basically hate everything, lol.

Correct. Btw, our initial class of 2020 rankings came out in August. They must not have been posted on this site.

I can't be of any help to you on camps for your daughter. I don't know anyone involved with girls basketball.

Tampa huh? I love Tampa.
