Thanks for those thoughts. We definitely feel good about Pikiell but its going to take another year or two of getting the scorers in our system to really take the next step. We have seen this type of game play out multiple times in the 1 plus years hes been the coach. The problem is against competition like MSU, we as fans just know that we are going to go through multiple 6 or 7 minute scoring droughts which gives us almost no chance of a huge upset. Those type of upsets do appear to be on the horizon however. It's definitely comforting knowing you have someone like Pikiell at the helm. Makes the future of Rutgers basketball something you can embrace and look forward to.

Spot on reality check of the difficulty in just becoming a mid level B1G team .I also would not take much out of what opposing coaches comment because they would quickly change when Rutgers starts defeating them on a regular basis.

Do not agree in this case. I know coaches say nice things all the time no matter what actually happens during the game. However, this team is showing a level of intensity that we have not seen in a very long time. We all know that we don't have the horses to play with the big dogs all game long, but we certainly kept it within reach for virtually the entire game. We need guys who can score, but we are not without defense.
If I had been a MSU fan last night, I would have been wondering what the hell was happening.

The MSU fan that sat 3 seats away from me was quaking in his boots during the game. Yes, our shooting and offensive athleticism cost us the win, but we absolutely gave them a battle.

Michigan State’s size and strength and depth helped them immensely. We missed plenty of close up shots. Unlikely our players are contested at practice sessions in any way comparable to what they see on the court in actual games. And we never have as much left in the tank at the end of games as the opposition.

Thanks for the kind words OP. It certainly looks like these guys are fighter and Pike doesn't let the quit. Unfortunately it's tough to win when your outside shooting isn't so great. I think you guys will beat us good when we play at MSU this year. I think we have a bright future. Coach has shown he can bring the guys he wants here. Not only that, I think we'll see improvement in player development.

There is coachspeakand then there is a coach actually complimenting an opposing team and coach. Izzo falls in the latter in this situation. Your right in we have a ways to go but you are definitely wrong about saying Izzo was “coachspeaking”. I suggest you watch his post game presser and then comment on what you think re compliments

Just watched CP’s presser paid a lot of compliments to NJIT. I really think coachspeak is when you beat a team soundly and then say a few nice things about them. When you play a tough game against a team you just maybe giving credit where credit is due
