I was completely wrong on Eugene and I am happy

Hes still gotta work on shooting and pushing the ball as his dribbling in the open court could use work. But if he can continue to improve even more down low hes going to be a solid big ten player

I respect this post. Totally acceptable to admit you are wrong on someone. I was one of his supporters last year. I saw a raw athlete who played the sport for a short amount of time but showed good athleticism. If he could respond to coaching well, he had a chance to be at least a legit contributor. I agree that last year he was a liability on offense. But you have to like the learning curve this guy has.

I give KYK credit for this post as well. There were several guys though ripping Eugene last year and before we played a game this season. A few said he would never play 10 minutes a game and if he did we would be lost on the court. The kid has worked hard in the weight room and on the court. He has only played for a few years. Somehow I think with Eugene and Carter at PF next season we should be in good shape there. I thought we really played hard again tonight. We are coming along. Some guys though are still expecting miracles. I myself want to enjoy the ride.

I agree with Kyk. I never thought Eugene would amount to much and his improvement this year is astounding. Great development by the staff and Eugene fits the niche that Pikell wants which is finding the "kid that no one wants" and coach him up - a la Baker as well.

I really liked O's athleticism last year and thought he had potential to get better and it's nice to see his improvement. And clearly coaching has played a big role in his improvement and completely agree Pike should take advantage of that in talking to recruits.

He was sort of right with Eugene as a wing. Huge credit to Eugene and the coaching staff for making the adjustment to being a 4. His next adjustment will be being able to continue to play fast and make plays when teams start to focus on stopping his dribble penetration. Fortunately Eugene is a good and willing passer. he found Duke when Duke's defender helped in the 2nd half.

I am amazed at how adept Omoruyi is in the paint. He is decisive, and makes the "right" move most of the time, and has become a terrific finisher -- maybe our best finisher on the team around the rim.

A really good job of coaching by Pike & Co., and hard work by Eugene. If only he was two inches taller!

Omoruyi has the best footwork on the team. His feel for the space around the basket as a sophomore is better than Freeman's as a senior. Bright future.

What makes him a good finisher is that he gets the ball and goes up strong to the rim. Too many times guys shoot like they're afraid they are going to break the rim, or hurt someone's feelings if they jam the ball. They just toss it up and hope for the best.

One of the knocks on Eugene from even those who always believed in him is his size - i.e., that he's a little undersized to be effective as a PF in the Big 10. But, seeing him succeed against some pretty big lineups v. FSU and MN has already begun to dispel that notion too.
