Yes, I am not sure where the “easy schedule” comes from for next year. We trade Washington for Kansas, but Wisconsin/Northwestern are much harder than Nebraska/Purdue.

Indiana and Illinois at home. Also, hopefully Buffalo is easier than EMU (sad I have to say that but).

Also, Ped and Michigan are the two better programs we've tended to play closer, last year aside, (again all things relative) and we have them at home too.

Not crazy about this. Yes, 3 B1G wins was a nice step.

But, getting blown out by Indiana and losing to EMU (if we can forgive the 12 min of offense against MSU) were just not acceptable.

I'd have waited to see 6 wins next year- keep 3 B1G wins and 3 cupcakes OOC.

Buffalo isn't easier than EMU based on this year's statistics (Buffalo is the 19th best passing offense in the country, I have no idea what comes back next year for them). Maryland is on the road. The idea people are putting forth that Northwestern (who has averaged 8-4 over the last 6 years) will be easier than one year wonder Purdue because they lose a lot of seniors is fallacious as well.

Next year's schedule is very similar to this year's. No margin of error to get to a bowl.

I think it MIGHT be a bit early but it's a good move for the program as it only costs money if he fails. Otherwise it helps recruiting and is one less reason that can be given for failure in the future - if Coach Ash doesn't get it done. I still think he will.

Downside is buyout money if he does fail but we should be able to afford that in 2 or 3 years, no?

Ugh. I know the argument for recruiting, but he still had 3 years on the clock. You could have easily extended him halfway through next year after seeing if we made improvement.
That makes too much sense. Contract or no contract 3-4 wins next year and the stadium will be empty - then we really won't have any money

I agree Nuts, but none of your patience translates to next year…it will be a difficult year offensively, maybe worse than this year.
Zap Pete Tverdov nailed it he said 4 wins this year as talent level isn't there. He says there is pretty decent talent coming in. He says next year we will go bowling. He pretty much told it like it was in his podcast and di dnt sugarcoat anything

"as the roster turns" my friends... the more Flood guys gone, especially at certain position groups, the better the O will become...you DO need to give the youth (see: 4 frosh WR's and a Soph TE) time to gain some experience, however, as there IS talent in that group already. Next: 2 stud QB's are added to the roster!
Lets see if you're right. Personally, I think if the freshman were so good and "Flood's guys," as you put it, were so bad then we should have seen more of them not just play but contribute more. As far as the stud QB's coming in I would just say that one of them plays for a great CA program and has maybe one other major offer. The other seems legit, but there is certainly doubt about all the QB's we already have.

"more of them play?"

Current depth chart at WR: Grant (SR), ...then Jabbie, Melton, Hayek, and Wormley - ALL frosh LOL! Now you've seen most of their "tape" and, like the rest of us, know they're more talented than what we saw out there, right? Unfortunately, with THAT much youth, combined with the OL and QB situation, man, it's tough...these kids - hopefully - will grow, will get better at getting separation and running routes BUT there's no doubt units other than RB and TE need to step up in order for them to function properly.

...btw, some bigger guys at WR (see: Schiano-era guys) wouldn't hurt, either! [cheers]

Missing Harris ( leading WR last year) and Bailey. Harris was AWOL in the beginning of the season (injury ?) and Bailey had very limited pass attempts. If both return and the Secondary holds up , our WR will have more experience

Agree with the lack of big receivers. I loved Greg's focus on the bigger receivers, it was such an advantage for us over the years. I'd love fro us to get back to that.

Correct. The 4 frosh, out of 5, is from the year-end depth chart. Harris coming back...we'll see...but that would be nice. Might actually prefer him on D, however, to be honest.

Not premature once you see a coach is the real deal lock him in now. He will be RUTGERS
Also, lock in recruits who may have been wondering about his status after year 3. These guys will be part of the solution going forward and are looking for success and if they truly like CA as said, it will seal the deal.
Still up to Ash to keep progressing the program.

What have I seen? A 6 and 18 record and moderate success in recruiting? I want Ash to succeed, but couldn’t we wait to see what next year brings before offering an extension. Don’t agree with extension based on what I have seen to date!

Agree but pick your poison.....if the frosh WR are not stepping up next year as Sophomores then you have definitely play Harris at WR if he is still playing Football. Having Hester, Hampton, & Gray all back next year at Safety make that an easier option.
Also how about a WR transfer via Graduate Transfer or JUCO ?
There as a WR from Appalachian State looking for a home.

Really ? A 6 and 8 record ? That's what you got out of the rebuild so far ? Ugh.
