$4,400,000 per year is what Butch Jones was reported to be pulling in from UT

what do you suppose that they promised Schiano?

and if this is the range of offer that would have been needed to motivate Schiano, it pretty much locks it up that a return to RU was not happening

The Vols fans really aren't happy. They lugged all that snow down from the mountains just to write that message on a boulder. #dedication

Seemed like a bad fit culturally even before I read the backlash. The honeymoon will be very short if at all if he and the AD decide to move forward. He is 50/50 at best to be there for more than 3 years. Not sure what the Vol fans are smoking if they truly thought Gruden was coming their way.
Part of Greg's issue in Tampa was cultural fit. The in your face northeastern honesty Schtick isn't accepted very well by many in this area.

Sounds like the folks in Knoxville are ready to burn the Stadium down w the news that Schiano may be their next hire. Apparently donors are threatening to withdraw the offer to pay Butches buy out if he is hired. Lots of talk the GS knew about abuse at PSU whether that is fair or not I have idea but that’s a stigma I wouldn’t want attached to me.

Sure but how does this look on paper?
Head coach for 11 years:
Never won a conference title
Never finished better than 3rd in recruiting in conference.
Never went to a BCS game
Never won a major bowl
Had a below 500 conference record
Repeatedly given up 30 plus points as DC at a school stocked with 5 star talent
Lost to Burch Jones 36--10 in year 10?
You forgot that he was 28-48 in the Big East

from 2006 on he was 21-21 in conference. You Need a new argument

He was 21-21 in conference AT RUTGERS. RUTGERS !
When analyzing Schiano's work here it is essential that one look at what preceded him and what followed him. Greg Schiano was able to get people to stop laughing at Rutgers football. And, in case you haven't noticed, the laughter has resumed. I'm sure he was a disappointment to those here who thought he was gonna make Rutgers as good as Pedd State or Ohio State or Michigan. And I'm sure they're gonna be even more disappointed when they finally come to the realization that the Schiano Years were the best of times for Rutgers football.
I'm not sure this program hasn't already peaked. So perhaps one should temper their criticism of what he failed to accomplish here until someone proves it CAN be done here.

Greg's problem in Tampa was that he wasn't winning. If he was winning, nobody would care what his personality was like.
No that wasn't his only problem. I live in Tampa. Many hated him. Some was due to bringing " Rutgers" to USF territory. Not many are honored by billboards on Dale Mabry Highway looking for his scalp like he was.

RU football hasn't peaked. And there's absolutely no reason a fan should believe it HAS peaked and give up.

I have a home in Tampa to too.
It has nothing to do with usf.
It's about winning.

If he was winning, the billboard never happens.

PSU? OSU? I'd be happy if he had made us as good as cinci or UCONN.

Good for him. With Tennessee's resources he'll be able to recruit as well as anybody. Now he just needs to find a decent OC.

Tennessee - where "The Fulmer Cup" originated - also the home of The Buttchuggers - all of a sudden declares itself to have a moral compass. How rich.

I'm going with the "he's a damn yankee, and ain't no dadgum yankees know nuttin bout no college footballin".

That’s how much you know about college football. He may only last 4 years but that another $16 millions.

Schiano was only 2-3 games away from having great season. A superstar QB gets you 2 games and we never had clol...lose to a great QB, Teel and Nova was between fine and good.
Lol, you really are a dope and apparently have a hard time reading

It’s about winning for Vols fans. 68-67 followed by 11-21 as a HC is not nose candy to Tennessee fans.

The PSU stuff is meant to spark moral outrage among the community against a potential candidate who has not been a winner as a HC.

If hired by UT Greg will be far less popular from the get go than Julie Hermann at her intro as RU AD.

The Facts hate Greg Schiano.

I disagree. You must consider that he was able to do something at Rutgers that was believed impossible. It may not have been much in comparison to Ohio State, but we all witnessed how important he made this program feel. 10 straight bowl games or so? After it was famously written that Rutgers would never win. What he did here is one of the great builds of our time. The instant he left, the air was out of the balloon. 5* players will be lining up to play for him and once he gets his pro style qb under venter, that's a top ten program in a couple years.

I actually think GS should just withdraw ... it's getting nasty and it's typical tenneseee ego... that place is stuck in the late 90's and until they accept they are no longer elite, nobody will do well there ... theyre the most made fun of fan base on the main board for a reason

I would seriously reconsider if I was him. With this hostility already working against him, if he doesn't win in a real hurry people will be throwing Molotov cocktails at him on game day.

But think about the severance package for Greg if UT cans him after year two. Three more years of a severance package and Greg can think about retirement.

I think that Vol fans researched Schiano and saw how in 2010, he gave up 69 points to first year Cincinnati HC Butch Jones, LOL. Butch went 4-8 on the year, but routed RU as Greg couldn't stop the spread offense.
