I don’t see the value at all in Mensah. I thought his speed down the court would find open shooters but if he’s not able to do it versus these teams, it’s not happening in conference. Not sure Dadika does a lot more but I think I’m more comfortable with him in the rotation.

Slow down a bit... marijuana isn't legal yet. Dadoka is a good kid with solid fundamentals in a D3 body. Not ready for the big boys in the BIG

It's early. Not everyone will be amazing right away. Instead, be happy about those people who are being impressive as advertised or even better - Thiam, huge rebounding and doing great shooting. Mike Williams, having the senioritis we needed him to - instant scoring off the bench. Corey had 10 rebounds today, his career high. Geo Baker had his coming out party, hit his 3 had an alley oop and a great slam. But let's harp on the fact that Souf hasn't had a double double yet.... SMH .. he will catch up to the game, give him some time.

The Souf hate is over the top and ridiculous. He's playing minimal minutes and moves the ball better than anyone on the team. Must be a pest helping Sanders and gio in practice and can push the ball infinity better than Dadika. Let this kid have a minute to adjust. First scrimmage people writing him off when he's not brought in to be a stud is ridiculous

Souf cannot be in the rotation. He moves the ball because he has no choice - he can't shoot it. I haven't necessarily seen the great defense yet either. He was put in, for example, for defense on the last possession of the first half and promptly got taken to the hole plus he fouled. It's not fair to pick on that one play but I have not seen anything that says he should get minutes.

And I don't think anyone on the board hates him. He's just not a Big 10 player, not even close.

To me, it's questionable whether Mesah deserves a D1 scholarship or not, but for what he's put in there to do (defense, spell our other guards, and move the ball), and due to his much bigger body, I'd rather have him than Dadika doing it right now.

We have Sanders and GeoB now
Mensah gives us the luxury of a 10+ minute rest for the two

He is quick....solid as a rock...playing at a new(probably scary) level

I shall also trust coach P!

I'm not sure why people are going crazy here, The guard minutes will be given to Sanders, Williams, Thiam and Baker. Even if he was decent I still want him out there for a max say 8 minutes a game. Otherwise we will be taking minutes from those four.

I agree with the sentiment of most in this thread. He wasnt brough in to shoot. We all knew that. Hes a huge body, with speed who facilitates.

If you want Dadika in over a sample of: Cleveland State and CCSU along with an exhibition, i dont know hwat to tell you. Watch more ball.

8 Minutes is 71/2 minutes too much! He has a Scholarship, which means there is one less Scholie to give out to someone who can actually help. Put it this way, would anyone here want to see there 40 year old father on the court with the RU Basketball team, at any time. Be honest. Because, that's what you have with this young man. And, no offense to him, matter of fact he has done really well for himself. Many here are still paying off their student loans.

If Baker, Williams and Thiam all become good perimeter shooters than the narrative changes. A guy who plays OK defense and knows his role is to find shooters can be an asset.

Corey Sanders (his D was much better than OK last night!) is that guy playing against a zone defense. Against man he has a tough time wearing 2 hats (scorer and distributer).

On a separate note i wanted to scream after Thaim hits a 3 on the next possession......Freeman is doubled teamed , Thaim is asking for the ball wide open, and doesn't get it

It's team defense...Unfortunately, it looked like Eugene just stood there instead of sliding over. And...I assume that was the only two points Clev state scored in the first half?

People here need to try to connect the dots....Pikiell said last year one of his biggest concerns was the lack of Ball Movement and if you take away the hate...Mensah has focused on trying to facilitate ball movement when he gets in the game. That's called being a role player and it can be valuable.

All you need to do is listen to what Mike Williams said prior to coming into the CCSU game....he said he noticed a lack of ball movement...and once again..take away the hate...their was a noticeable improvement starting when Souf immediately found Williams for an open shot.

Holy crap...Bowl...chill out, wow.

I don’t think anyone’s expectations were that he’d come in and light it up. He’s available to provide 5 - 12 minutes / game,if needed. The kid is physical, hard to stop going to the hoop, and can dish. His major weakness is he can’t shoot FTs.

I like Dadika, but are you seriously saying Dadika should play over him? You think Dadika will do better covering B1G players than Souf? If Souf and Dadika played one on one, what would that look like? Mensah would take him to the hole every time and dominate the boards.

I think the coaches know just a little more than you....

Souf can't shoot, can't drive, and his defense has been lackluster. He's a 23-year-old JUCO transfer, not some raw freshman. Given that he only has two years here, each game is like 1.67% of his contribution. So three games in, we've already gotten 5% from him.

I'm not sure where the optimism comes from that he gives us much more in the other 95%. Maybe after an off-season of work he'll figure some things out, but at this point I don't know that he's going to do much this year, which is a bummer for a guy on scholarship for only two seasons.

The appeal to authority of "the coaches know more than you" doesn't work for me because he had no other high-major offers. So really, the argument is "the coaches know more than 75 other coaching staffs," which I don't buy.

And that argument is literally all there is in his favor. His JUCO stats, tape, recruiting rankings, and play through 4 games are the evidence on side. "The coaches know better" is the evidence on the other side.

I wish him the best but if he gets more than five minutes a game we're in trouble. The good news is that he's the fifth guard this year, and he'll be the fifth guard next year (behind Geo, Kiss, Thiam, and Mathis). But if we want to compete in the B1G, then we need to be better all over, and that includes the fifth guard spot.

I think you lost the room with that 1.67% and 5% statement. Holy cow.

I am going to guess.....

1. Souf will find the shooters better than Dadika
2. Defense will be better
3. Handle is better
4. Able to occasionally get in to the lane off the dribble

I've made the same guess, but have yet to see any of that by Souf against inferior competition. He needs to make a quantum leap forward to help in conference play. It could happen, but considering he's already a 23-year old junior, I'm not counting on it. He was a head-scratching addition from the get go. His JUCO stats and tape were unimpressive. It seems that unlike big-men, serviceable JUCO guards a are a dime a dozen. We we've already played a low-major team (CCSU) who had a first year JUCO guard - #1 - who looked much better than Souf. Still not sure what the coaches saw in Souf, but I'll be rooting for him to come around.

I think this entire thread is Seton Hall fans pretending to be RU fans lol .. you poor saps. If Souf and Dadika are the two at the lower end of our rotation, that's good enough for me because they are both ballers!! Both don't really shoot but handle the ball really well (we saw a lot of that from Dadika last year when Corey was out) .. if they are the "bottom" in minutes, then we are in good shape

holy overreaction people

I bet 80% of the people saying this were the ones who wanted to toss Mike Williams as a Soph and Eugene last year. How are they doing now?

Just relax people. he's 3 games into D1 bball. you may be right, but it is way too soon to make this assessment.

Here are the facts....it's 3 games, he has played a total of about 16 minutes and of all the areas that this team needs to continue to improve as it goes through the OCC, this is concern ?

How about the lack of defensive intensity at times?
How about the outside shots not falling?
How about the low post defensive lapses at times?
How about not attacking the zones from the inside - out?

The comments about one guy who has played about 16 minutes in 3 games are generating about 80% of the comments about this team after 3 games...REALLY ?

Seems like some strange expectation setting. We’re talking about a 5th guard/3rd PG. On any team this is either a) a veteran lower skilled player who’s been in the program b) a young player behind more talented vets whose time hasn’t come. We are not in position to recruit type B yet. Souf is type A and again, yes he isn’t the best version of it, but how is Rutgers supposed to attract someone at that level yet.

Here is where he is clearly better than Dadika: defense and rebounding. Does anyone know a coach who prefers these two traits?
