Every year our offenses are bad and it usually comes down to the same reason: safe predictable play calling.

False. The offense has a ton of playmakers. We have none at QB which holds our WRs back.
I think the D was on the field for at least 12 minutes of that 3rd quarter. Can't have anything left in the tank.
Momentum total shifted with that Hester penalty.
The line is not doing too bad. On the pick a timing blitz came in up the middle and got home. Bolin needs to spin away from the Blitzer, get outside and buy time for a player to get open or just get rid of it. It's the sort of qb play that virtually every team gets. Why is it so difficult to get a real qb
If we were just aggressive from the 50 instead of conservative it could have been a different ball game. We had them on the ropes went conservative brought Lewis in to waste a down and the tide changed.
Even if we lose. I'm happy with the team. I was looking for progress from game to game. And I see it.

If we had competent playcalling and competent tackling we would've won this game and the EMU game. Depth and horses has nothing to do with it.
The difference is that Rutgers had more than enough ample opportunities to put it away but Mr. Conservative Chris Ash, Mr. I can't teach my kids what lane to fill Vinnie Okurch and the Refs did everything they could to prevent Rutgers from winning at the moment.

And? We missed an opportunity to put more points on the board and then that punt return immediately followed....
I'll be happy with the team's performance even if we lose but if we lose it will be because of the same weaknesses that we've always had and which will kill us even if the team gets better: no killer instinct on the part of the head coach and safe offensive play calling. You don't win big games with that mindset even if you are good.
Setting emotion aside, this is probably the right way to look at it.
But when the game is within your grasp and it slips away... it's still tough.
