I woke up in a good mood so I'm having some fun here. For those who know relationships and players that maybe talked about being together who would Mathis attract if anyone?

He's a shooting guard so it could still mean we take Mac as well or does Carey come into play? What forwards could Mathis maybe sway? This 2018 roster could be something special. Even Corey might see his way to staying for his senior year.

Mathis, Baker, Kiss, Mensah, Thiam, Doucoure, Sanders, Omuryi, Johnson, Doorsan.

That's 10 with Corey if he stayed. Imagine adding a few more big-time kids. Maclung or Carey. There's some great recruits for 2019 out there as well. Mulcahy comes to mind.

This is going to be a big diner :)

Sounds great and all but I want to see what happens Friday before typing up hypotheticals. We've been here before!

I'll wait until Friday. I'm sure the mods and basketball insiders will have some information about possible scenarios if we land him

Continuing the fun now that Maclung joined us. I love this kid's game. With Mathis; how about this group:

Mathis, Maclung, Baker, Kiss, Doucoure and Thiam, Omuyuri, Johnson, Doorsan, Omuyuri, Mensah- 2018

Not sure how many scholarships left and Sanders could still come back if he wanted? We need some Bigs

2019, we would lose Mensah and Doorsan and no Corey. Could add a few big pieces there and we are in business.

McClung and Mathis, future starting guard combo. A 3-star and a 4-star. We have had guys recruit talented players before--notably FHJ, but now we have a staff that can nourish them. Signing Mathis and having a decent year 2017-18 is rather critical but for the first time since Waters, would guess this staff can handle it.

Let's continue the game as my mood is improving by the minute. Maclung, Mathis and Doucoure is one heck of a trifecta. What's left for 2018?

With Sanders and no transfers, you have 12 players with one more ship to give. Washington would fit nicely in that spot. Sanders leaves and one transfer you have two additional ships.

2019 leaves at least two additional new ships.

No way of knowing what Corey will do but we finally have a host of scorers. It's very comforting to know that we are not solely dependent on sanders,

Yes, he would be another excellent addition. Would be interesting if Mucius and Washington both wanted to commit.

Hold off on pencilling players in for roles.

Just be glad Pike is getting the guys he wants.
Whew thanks for the much-needed reality check. People were getting a little too excited and we definitely can't have that. A healthy dose of buzz kill was certainly in order. We should shut the boards down for a while and not talk about anything.

The reality check is always needed. Guess you forgot about Mike Rice's first class, and the class with Rosario and Echenique. FIGG as well.

People get overly excited, and then take out on the players if things don't go according to the hyperbolic plan they created in their minds for them. This cycle merits a heavy dose of buzz kill right at the start to prevent it from starting it up again.

If these 3 guards are good I am not sure if it is in our best interest long term to have Corey back.

I hate timelines, but 2020-2021 has a ring to it.

It's not just the M&M boys, word is Geo is looking very good, Mensah, another 17 yet to come, Sanders growing, the roster will be turning over in the next two years with Pike's players. He has shown he has a staff that can teach the game and he has shown he can coach the games. Have we won yet - no. Have we danced yet - no. Have we opened up some eyes - yes.

I want to be an optimist here, and I am optimistic..... I think the game coaching and game prep is better than when what we got with
Mike Rice and other head coaches and their staffs

we went into seton halls place with a much less talented roster and were beating them by nine or so at the half.... their roster is/was way more talented than ours..... eventually we wore down... I think the same happened at Wisconsin, would have to look it up to be sure.

anyway, I think RU is a dangerous team in two or three years.....we will not have a depth problem because our coach will fix it....

The reality is that Rice's first class was program changing, and had he not gone off the deep end and those guys were given a free pass to leave, those guys would've stuck around together to the end and had a chance to win something

Are we worried that mild mannered pikiell is gonna walk into practice with a two by four covered in barbed wire and start hitting these kids in the shins? Are we worried that the man cannot coach (like Fred hill) after seeing what he transformed our team into this year? If not, why are we even discussing the rice and hill situations?

I hate to say it, but does this momentum get us back in play with Naz Reid?

Probably not if we didn't make his Top 10.

Well, we didn't make his top 10 before we got Mac & Mathis. If I'm Naz Reid, I'm liking this back court a lot and Pike and his staff can not only Coach but can now recruit. I say he puts us back on his list very soon. In fact, I think Pike just got off the phone with him...

LIke other posters have said, we've been here before, going as far back as Bannon.

I'm excited, and looking forward to what Pikiell can do over the next couple of years, but definitely taking a wait and see attitude.

That was my point, thanks for clarifying.

Also, minor nit, but I thought we made his top 10 but got cut from his top 7. If so, gotta think there's room to shift us back in there.

Rice's first class had a high ranking due to the number of players in that class, not necessarily the talent. It was abnormally large. As a result ranking was misleading as to talent level.

Just saw a McClung tape where he hits 7 deep threes in one game. Watch out folks, the RAC is preparing for liftoff. Shooters are here and coming.

That's what I like best about him. He seems to have potential hitting the 3. The other moves he has are nice and all but if he can make big gainss there, it'll go a long way.

Very much so. Also, he can take people off the dribble as I know was a concern of chopping. I just watched some video. McClung is a winner. Perfect for a build. His team just placed first in a huge aau tournament.

Gotta say, far from sold on Reid. Watched a video with him and he does not have great energy. I am fine with him going elsewhere.
