I am in the process of building a pole barn in my backyard. Once it is complete I am planning on coating the floor with Epoxy prior to storing anything in it. My question is has anybody done this themselves or has had it done? Would love to get some insight and peoples experiences / findings before I venture into this.

Primary use is to store cars and motorcycles, wrench on stuff, watch some football oh and possibly drink some beer and whiskey.
Well obviously the people who fetch the car for me wipe it down before I get in it.
Used epoxy paint in my basement. Looks great and is very durable. It also creates a seal so less moisture gets into the basement. Did it myself. Needs good ventilation. Nobody should be breathing those fumes while it cures.
Can you guys elaborate as to why? I originally was going to use garage floor paint, but you tend to get hot spots with paint if a vehicle sits there and then you get tire marks and peeling. This what led me to look into the epoxy, I am looking for something that will be easy to clean and will not stain if oil is spilled etc.
The epoxy will do the same. Peels and stains. Not durable as one would think. Scrapes very easy.
I think the person above who put it in his basement is correct also because there isnt and heavy traffic. But would not use it in a garage.
It really comes down to what you're doing in the space, as I alluded to earlier.
If you're moonshinin', you want a non-porous surface. If you're growin' weed, bare concrete will do just fine.
Good cover story with the cars, though.
If you used fiber mesh in the floor that will be enough to eliminate chipping of the concrete from the impact of tools. If not then you'll need to coat it. Look into Miracote products they are a polymer cementitous protective coating base and adhere to the point where you have to chisel it off.
It's specifically designed for our cold weather freeze-thaw cycles. They even have a color bond sealer so if it should fade over time just re-coat and it looks brand new. Comes in a variety of colors and no I'm not a salesman just great stuff.
Leno's garage appears to be epoxied, based on photos. There are some pictures in which the floor is pretty marked up. I suspect he has people to resurface it on a regular basis.
Yup and my garage gets used. Park one car on a regular basis, 2 in winter, have kids bikes, toys and workout equipment in there as well. Every few years I pull everything out and get it cleaned. Perfect as new. Nothing beats going into the garage barefoot to grab a beer and feel like you never left the house

I'm imagining that there must be different grades of floor Epoxy sealer. For instance I've been in sterile Pharmaceutical and other manufacturing facilities that have perfect high traffic industrial Epoxy treatments on their floors.
I dont have first hand experience with the home use products but a friend of mine did this about 10 years ago and still loves it. Secret was in the preparation. Power washing to get the floor completely clean and then acid wash/etching prior to the epoxy application.

Unless you like living in filth you are doing that anyway. Plus the cleaning people vacuum it every week.You know what beats it? Drinking beer instead of clearing the entire garage out for cleaning every 2 years
If you're going the epoxy route make sure u go with a quality 2 part epoxy... Inslx garage guard is one of the better ones out there.. Not cheap at $100 a gallon.. But it is pretty durable... But as was stated in a post above... Preparation is the key to having it last...
Yes, the floor will have fiber mesh.....was more worried about spills and peeling due to hot spots....I will investigate the Miracote. Thanks for the info!

We have something like this on our garage floor at our vacation home in Arizona. It was there when we bought the home in 2008-09. It looks nice, and seems pretty durable. The house gets used only 6-9 weeks per year, but I imagine the epoxy was on the floor for several years before we bought it.

We don't think it is too slippery or slick. It does not rain much in Arizona.

or, garage floor mats..... I put them in my garage after fixing up the floor, painting, and many years
later it still looks good.... just hose them down once in a while.... they come in different grades
and would suggest a heavy duty one, if you go this way

to be fair it doesnt peel instantly. Secondly my experience is that come when it is applied too quick;ly.
Easy to put on with a roller , with plastic chips to sprinkle on, Like everything else its about prep . No oil stains etc
if you are not driving over it maybe three years . So two gallons is, what, 110 dollars, and it looks great new
I like the idea of mats. If you do epoxy, as stated above, prep is everything. The epoxy needs a profile to adhere to. There are companies that spray the material that pickup bed liners are made of. You could put a cove base to transition and spray 6 inches up the walls and then be able to powerwash it clean.
Suppose we are talking about a new house in Florida (fall-winter build) and the builder offers epoxy finish. Anything to be concerned about regarding cure time on the concrete before the epoxy is applied? From what advice I see in this thread I am thinking its best to not let the builder do it but find a local pro t do it as he will look at the garage floor and concrete with a critical eye instead of thinking everything the builder does is a-okay.
Stem wall prevents moisture penetration to a much greater extent....given the local environment you've chosen in Florida. If you are going to invest in a good floor finish it could mean quite a bit.
