Id go with one of the small Rtic coolers before Yeti sues em out of business. Pelican has a 4th of July sale on its coolers, too.

I generally think the "luxury cooler" market is ridiculous, but for something you really don't want melting, might be worth it. F Yeti and their overpriced nonsense, though.

I agree on Yeti. I haven't looked at the Rtic stuff. I shall do that.

Yeah, they basically ripped Yeti off but sell stuff for well cheaper. Think their little personal cooler is about 75 bucks less than Yeti's.

I have a large RTIC 65 cooler and a smaller Yeti 35. The RTIC performs just as well as the Yeti for most of my needs at a fraction of the cost. The RTIC tumblers and can coozies I find to be better than the YETI. My fishermen friends swear by the YETIs and I would also if my livelihood or passion took me in that direction. I just do not need to keep things that cool for that long.

If my guests are still there 3 days after their invited I have bigger worries. And yes the RTIC and YETI coolers keep temp that well.

It's not a great idea, but it's a pretty saturated market at this point. If you Google "whiskey blog" or "whiskey review" you can get lost in all the results.

On another note, I picked up a set of those giant ice cube molds at BB&B yesterday (actually, the wife did). They're silicone molds, one makes six 2" cubes and two others make 2.5" spheres. If you're not a "neat" guy (I am not) but don't particularly like the watering-down that inevitably results from tossing a couple of regular cubes in the glass, these are perfect. I enjoyed a dram of Macallan 10 last night with one of the ice balls and it was perfect.
Totally agree with the large cubes. Wife purchased silicon molds about 5 years ago and they are a hit every year on the Bourbon tour. Travel with the boys for a golf weekend. Started out playing 36 a day for 3 days. Now it's all about 18 holes good cigars and bourbon.

I like the spheres for personal use but the molds are cumbersome. Silicon squares are much easier to make large amounts and the cubes store more easily. Three 5 gallon ziplocs in the freezer at all times.

I like those two as well but keep them for myself. We do a bottle of Jim Beam Black in the yellow lot before each game. Started that at the WVU Blizzard game and never stopped.
I truly hope that you guys didn't get Buzzed up so much that you went out and shoveled the field at half time. HATE whoever was responsible for that.

tried Hill Rock Single Malt (Hudson Valley) during the weekend. Amazing stuff, rivals Scotch, Japanese and Taiwanese in terms of flavor and smoothness.

I'm a fan of the Col E.H. Taylors. A bit sweet and smooth. One of my go to bottles. There are a few different offers.

So my good friends at Neshaminy Creek Brewing have a few reason to celebrate. Last night they won their 3rd straight Brewery of the Year from Philly Beer Scene and tonight they are having a soft opening of their second location in Jenkintown called Neshaminy Creek's Borough Brewhouse.
So a crappy bottle of champagne wasn't going to do. So I bought this puppy for them. Anyone ever had this? I'm sure I'll get a taste.

In all honesty, I do not have much recollection of the 1st half. Sadly began to sober in the 2nd half and you know how the story ends.

Interesting, never really looked at those coolers as I have no need. But I researched this rivalry: Yeti and Rtic reached a settlement just a couple of months ago. Rtic has to stop selling most of their products, as they need to redesign them to be different. Here's an article on it:

Played in a golf outing last week. Was gifted a bottle of Coopers Craft bourbon by a liquor distributor that was in our group. He said this Bourbon is not available in the area yet. It is an entry point Bourbon $30 price point. Produced by Brown Forman. It drinks rather nicely for a $30 price point and it opens up well. This is one to have around for someone that is interested in trying Bourbon but not one you want to waste your expensive stuff on.

It's an MGP product.

Yep, read that article (read GJ regularly), another reason Yeti can go F itself. Granted, Rtic should not have ripped it off so thoroughly, but it's not like Yeti innovated anything. Engel had the first high-end rotomolded cooler; Yeti just branded better. Those overpriced cups prove it even better than the coolers.

So ,you are semi confessing that shoveling was a possibility, are you? Those shovels are in the possession of the Campus Police and they are just itching to match some prints. Please tell me that it wasn't you.

THAT and allowing WVU to keep a tent on the sidelines for their QB who hailed from Florida.

Unbelievable that.. surely teams cannot just bring in tents to park on the sidelines. Who allowed that?

Wow, talk about timing. Tonight was watching the mlb channel while warming up at the gym, and a commercial from Cabela's comes on advertising their store brand version of a Yeti knockoff.

Liquor salesman was talking the product up so much. I knew there had to be a hook.

Hell, he may not even know. The story line for the brand is based entirely on the barrels, for some weird reason. "Cooper's Craft" is a reference to the cooperage that B-F owns, which they spun up a number of years ago so as to make barrel costs predictable. It's pretty much a story concocted to appeal to people who buy bourbon but don't know much about what they're buying.

Having undergone intestinal surgery several years ago, I cannot imbibe in straight liquor nor carbonated beverages... so the following was my solution, and it turns out to be very refreshing on a warm Summer night:

I take a large cup (approx 24 oz) with a few ice cubes, and use this as my mixer:

I then add 1.5 shots of each of the following two liquors (for a total of 3 shots in a 24 oz cup of sweet tea)

AND

It's a very tasty, smooth, and refreshing adult beverage agreeable with a sensitive digestive system!

And.... it's inexpensive.

It also works well with this tea mixer too:

Give it a try.

It may be too late for this, but if you turn the bottle sideways so that the cork gets wetted down by the scotch, that may save the cork.

Might be an interesting taste. Eight years in a 300 gallon cask isn't a lot of wood, so I'd imagine there's some strong primary notes in that bottle.

Having Ledaig 10 yo for the first time. Very impressed with it. It tastes kinda like a Islay scotch. Anyone ever have this?

I've never had it, but it makes sense that you would detect similar notes to the Islays. Ledaig hails from the Isle of Mull (Tobermorey Distillery), which is just north of Islay. You'll get that same smokey peat bouquet, the same earthy undertones and a slightly salty finish.

Santa brought me a bottle of Widow Jane for Christmas - good stuff.

My go to bourbons are either Blanton's or Four Roses Single Barrel.

Yeah, what he said! Don't think I've had it before, but it looks like it's produced heavily peated and is the only single malt produced by the distillery, the rest of the production used for blends.

For a change of pace, try Curvoisier VSOP Cognac. It's become my evening after dinner drink (when I have one, which is about twice a week). It is kind of half way between wine and whisky (it's basically distilled wine aged in oak casks). I'm going to be trying other brandies as well, but Curvoisier VSOP is really nice.

My son bought me a bottle of STAGG, JR for Christmas. I have not tried it yet. I guess I need a special occasion as it is supposedly very smooth despite the fact it is 131.9 proof.

It can be a bit of a pain to find non MGP (or other mass distiller) selections. What are some good regional (NYC region) distilleries worth trying?

I have tried Hudson's (Tuthilltown) and Kings County, both of which I believe are distilled locally. Please correct me if I am wrong.

King's County is using bought spirit. It may not necessarily be MGP, but it's not their own.

I'm not sure what the status of the Tuthilltown product is. They had a fire about a year or so back that turned back the clock on some of their operations.

Best thing to do, especially when selecting a craft spirit, is to pay close attention to the label. Note the difference between "produced by" and "bottled by". If a craft house is using their own spirit for 100% of their product the label will boldly proclaim it for all the world: "Distilled and bottled by XYZ, Springfield". If it says "bottled by" or if it says nothing at all about the origin of the spirit then they're buying on contract.

The whiskeys I drink the most of, these days, are: Balvenie 21, Macallan 18, and Macallan Rare Cask. They are all available at most liquor stores, I would think.
At higher end liquor stores. Most don't like to carry because they don't move as fast as they want. This is what I've told.
